Ice Cube says that N.W.A‘s impact is larger than the music industry.
“We just wanted to be ourselves,” Cube says, according to Billboard. “That opened up a door for artists like Eminem, for people to produce things like South Park, where it’s raw and edgy.”
South Park is a Comedy Central television show that first aired in 1997 and follows four friends through elementary school in the mountain town of South Park, Colorado. It is known for its controversial content, including an episode in which they mocked Kanye West.
Eminem signed with Dr. Dre’s Aftermath in 1998 and started his own imprint, Shady Records. The Detroit rapper is known for pushing boundaries with his lyrics.
