New information has emerged regarding an Instagram photo Snoop Dogg took with a Texas trooper at the SXSW Festival in March.

Snoop captioned the pic of him grimacing alongside the grinning officer: “Me n my deputy dogg.”

The Department of Public Safety Trooper Billy Spears was disciplined for taking the photo back in April.

Although Spears admit to not knowing who Snoop Dogg was at the time of the photo, he was ordered to undergo counseling and received a disciplinary mark on his record by the DPS.

Spears’ attorney handed over open e-mails reportedly sent by DPS Director Tom McCraw to The Charlotte Observer that exposes the DPS Director’s ill-feelings towards Snoop Dogg.

“Apparently he would rather work the convention while on a week’s vacation to earn additional money rather than take an additional tour on the border,” McCraw wrote. “He must not understand that he was being lampooned by a dope smoking cop hater which reflects very poorly on the department.”

DPS spokesman Tom Vinger confirmed the authenticity of the email to the Observer but declined to comment on its content.

Spears is suing the DPS and plans to seek unspecified damages in a Travis County court. He says his discipline was retaliation for expressing his grievances with a supervisor several weeks earlier.
