While numerous Rap figures have taken to their social media accounts to express their displeasure with recent police brutality cases, Joey Bada$$ is using his music videos to send a message to the public.

The Pro Era frontman recently released the official visual for “Like Me” featuring BJ the Chicago Kid.

Within the video – which is directed by Joey Bada$$ and Nathan R. Smith – Bada$$ begins his day on his Brooklyn, New York doorstep, as police sirens sound off in the background.

As the story begins to unfold, viewers witness an abusive relationship between a young couple. Joey falls for the female and eventually begins to spend quality time with her.

Things get tricky when the girl’s estranged lover catches Joey strolling the streets with his former girl. When he pulls out a golden gun, the police arrive and a tussle occurs. Two people end up dead, including Joey’s love interest.

Bada$$ bails from the scene but returns during the night to find that both bodies remain lying in the street – uncovered and unattended to. Bada$$ makes contact with a police officer from the earlier incident and attempts to escape.

He’s later gunned down in the streets – with his hands up.

The visual draws from several recent incidents – Mike Brown, Trayvon Martin, Oscar Grant – involving unarmed, young, Black males dying due to police brutality. Fortunately for Joey, this narrative is fictional and he wakes up from a dream in the end.
