Meek Mill will remain in jail until at least October 11, according to a story on nbcphiladelphia.com.
The rapper went before a judge today (August 18) and asked to be released from jail in order to return to his career and to support his son and others. Instead, the judge ordered the Philadelphia artist to take anger management classes and a parenting class.
The MMG rapper has been on probation for about five years and has not been accused of committing any crimes during that time, the story says, though he failed a drug test in 2014 and also appeared to feature a gun in a music video this year. His attorney said that he had a prescription for the OxyContin after an injury and that the weapon used in the video was a water pistol, not an actual gun.
In July, one of Meek Mill’s attorneys requested an emergency hearing to get an explanation of why the rapper was incarcerated. He was reportedly apprehended because of his behavior while on probation. Among his alleged infractions were posing with a gun in a clip from a music video that was posted on Instagram. He was sentenced to three-to-six months in jail.
