Nicki Minaj On Another “Super Bass” Or “Starships”: “Hell No”

Nicki Minaj says some of the songs on Pink Print are an indication of her current musical direction.

“With ‘Chi-Raq’ and ‘Lookin’ Ass,’ they’re definitely more…back to my Hip Hop roots,” Minaj says in an interview with MTV. “And I don’t think it’s something that I’m necessarily trying to do. As soon as I started working on my third album, that’s just the songs that I’ve been writing.”

Nevertheless, she says that isn’t the only sounds set to be on her upcoming project.

“There are other types of music on my album that I’m super excited for,” she says. “I’m actually putting a song out in a week and a half. It’s nothing like ‘Chi-Raq’ or ‘Lookin’ Ass,’ so I don’t want people to think that I’m only gonna be doing that type of music. I’m gonna do what my heart tells me to do.”

When asked if audiences may get a track like “Starships” or “Super Bass,” songs that have been criticized by some, including Peter Rosenberg who critiqued “Starship’s” Pop appeal, Nicki Minaj said, “Hell no.”

Beyond her music, Minaj says her style is also changing.

“I went so far to the other side that there’s only one place to go from there,” Minaj says. “You can either continue doing costumes or you can just say, ‘Hey guess what? This will shock them even more. Doing nothing will shock them even more.'”

    1. She’ll do another Starships/Super Bass type song again, you’ll see. She ain’t gonna abandon those pop songs what’s making her a lot of money.

      1. cosign, lil suburban girls are basically 95 percent of her audience, she can’t just leave ’em like that lol

    2. Labelmate Drake has gone to become a world superstar and she desparate to achieve that kind of success but I think its to late for her

      1. Agreed, though I do not listen to Drake, I go throw back but is 100% dead on. And no one would have thought this at the beginning.

    3. If you really want something original to add to your album collection, then I suggest you go cop that new Mastermind, available now in stores and on iTunes. It’s truly a classic with no filler, no skits, all originality. Ross proves to us that he has a far greater penchant for picking beats than Nas’. Hopefully, when Ross reaches another couple decades in the game, he’ll hire some up-and-coming producer to create “Port of Miami – 20 year anniversary”, the shit will be an even bigger classic than it is today #bawse

      1. I still can’t believe Ross is still rapping. Garbage. If I was here, he for sure wouldn’t be. Believe that.

    4. I’m sure the fact that not a single person in her camp being nominated for a Grammy with her last album in the ‘pop’ category had nothing at all to do with this new more down to earth direction. Clearly she does have at least some level of skill, but at the end of the day she is still a fake artists. Didn’t her homeboy Tunechi have a line that went “Whole shopping cart full of fake hiphop artists”
