Could this the end of Roc-A-fella Records as we know it? With their captain, Jay-Z hanging up his mic and stepping into other parts of entertainment, many are wondering is Roc-A-fella for sale? Having done several staff changes and pushed back album releases for Camron, beanie Siegel and many others, have left many wondering is this the end of the Roc?
“After a decade of success and consistent good music and quality individuals, there comes a time when you can extend your contract or you could sell your company and you can still run things like Russell did with Def Jam and Jimmy Iovine did with Interscope. That’s what’s happening with us now. The question is, if we do decide to sell the rest of the equity in Roc-A-Fella, how do we move forward?”, Damon Dash told MTV.
So where does that really leave the Roc? No one besides the three owners Damon Dash, Kareem Biggs and Jay-Z truly know but Dame says he plans to run Roc as CEO.
“All that is paperwork. We’ll never break up,” he continued. “It’s Roc-A-Fella for life. I would never pass the torch or leave any of my artists. I look at them like my family, almost like my children. I would never leave them with anybody else. Who else could run Roc-A-Fella but me? signed Kanye personally. I’m just gonna walk away from my man? Couldn’t happen. Who else could deal with Beanie Sigel’s life and Cam’ron? They have to be understood. We’re very unique individuals, and each person get marketed a different way. That’s impossible. All we can do is expand and get more money. The purpose of business is to build equity in it and sell it and start another one. But the Roc is something that’s my heart, my life, my soul.”
