Jay-Z’s “Open Letter” may have been released just this morning and already the record has made its way to the White House. Earlier today (April 11), during a White House press conference, White House press secretary Jay Carney was questioned about the President Barack Obama reference on Jay-Z’s newly-released record as well as the rappers controversial trip to Cuba.

Jay-Z mentions President Obama in this particular lyric: “Obama said ‘chill, you gonna get me impeached’/ But you don’t need this shit anyway/ Chill with me on the beach.”

During the press conference, a reporter quoted part of the song for Carney and then asked if President Obama had any kind of conversation with Jay-Z in regards to his trip to Havana, Cuba. Carney went on to stress that the U.S. Treasury Department handles such matters and revealed that there was no communication between the President and Jay-Z.

“I guess nothing rhymes with ‘treasury.’ Because Treasury offers and gives licenses for travel as you know and the White House has nothing to do with it,” Carney explained. “I am absolutely saying that the White House and the President on down had nothing to do with anybody’s travel to Cuba. That is something that Treasury handles.”

Produced by Swizz Beatz, “Open Letter” features both Jay-Z and Timbaland and debuted earlier today on Hot 97.
