Following news that Justin Combs, son of Sean “Diddy” Combs, had earned a football scholarship to UCLA a number of people were eager to step forward with their opinion on the matter. Most recently, FOX News host Bill O’Reilly voiced his opinion on the controversial topic.
While O’Reilly did congratulate Combs on earning the scholarship he went on to state that he believes the scholarship should be returned and given to someone else due to Diddy’s wealth.
“[Diddy] should’ve said, you know what, we’re not gonna take it. We’re gonna give it to another kid, because there only are a certain amount of scholarships, even though they’re corporate paid, they are limited, so they should’ve stepped back, paid their own way and let another kid have the scholarship,” said O’Reilly, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
Combs will still be receiving a full athletic scholarship to UCLA and despite critiques from others UCLA spokesman Ricardo Vasquez has defended awarding the scholarship to Combs.

There’s no logical reason a kid, regardless of his talents, should be given one of a handful of limited scholarships when his family is that wealthy with zero need for his college way paid by others. O’Reilly is right, gracefully decline the scholarship money, and allow it to go to the sorts of kids who actually need it: those with high ambitions and academic (or even athletic) talent to back it up that have little to no way of affording the extremely high cost of going to a school like UCLA.
Why anyone would defend Diddy’s rich ass kid to take a free ride when his father is that rich is beyond me. Who cares if O’Reilly is for or against something, listen to common sense. It’s been said in this thread already the names of the rich who have done so already. But why is such a big deal now? Because none of the other people are constantly reminding you that they have enough money to do whatever they want to do. That includes sending their children to whatever school that accepts them.
You see, everyone knows that HOF QB Joe Montana can send his kid to whatever school he wants, paid cash, out of pocket. Nobody pitches a fit when his kid gets a scholarship because Joe isn’t constantly reminding you of that fact.
It’s a little lesson in humility. Something most hip hop artists will never talk about but it is a truism in life that you must have it.
All said, the kid EARNED the scholarship so he should have it. He still has to continually earn it as he goes through college career.

Two, if there’s one thing you can say about rich people is they love to save a buck. It don’t matter how much they have. If they call in a favor and not have to front the money for something, they will. That’s why they stay rich.

They fight and offer free rides to students so they can attend there school…rich or poor. And that’s what athletics is all about. The only people that will attend UCLA because Justin is attending is future wannabe music stars and groupies. Apparently, Joe Montana is worth $80 million dollars. Diddy is worth $550 million. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to realize that if you’re the guy with $550 million, naturally people are going to hold you under a different microscope. Especially when it’s Diddy. Joe probably gets talked about alot in San Francisco, and rightfully so, but once again, I don’t feel that a rich kid should get a free pass just because he got good grades. There are people with higher GPA’s who are getting dinged simply because 1.) Their daddy isn’t Diddy, and 2.) they don’t play football. They actually want to do something with their education. Take away football, and would Justin even want to go to UCLA? He mentioned education once in the interview I read.
Its an athletic scholarship. They want him to play football for the school because they apparently think he’s valuable to their team.
It’s not about scholastics and academics. Strictly sports.
