Say what you will but there is only one magazine in the last fifteen years that has stood the test of times while all the other magazines have come and gone. Of course that magazine could only be The Source. In the August edition of The Source magazine celebration is in order for the magazine that has invaded over nine million readers lives.
Detailing the timeline of stories The Source have covered goes back to 1988 when the Nike Jumpman Logo was born, Spike Lee’s movie school daze became a hit and Dr. Dre talks about the relationship he developed between two turntables and a microphone, through 1996 when a bomb was set off at the Olympics in Atlanta, The Fugees were changing the sound of hip-hop and music takes a huge hit when Tupac dies. Also in this issue The Source also does a role call for the “Top 115 Hip-Hop Artist from 1998-2003. Included on that list are Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G, Tupac Shakur, Outkast, KRS-One, Nas, Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill and many others.
The Source also does and article on“6 Albums, 5 Mics, One Love (pg. 177), which chronicles the highly talked about 5 Mic system. A three of those albums to ever receive five mics are Nas-“Illmatic”, Biggie- ‘Life After Death” and Ice Cube- “AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted”.
