During the April 26th Detroit Hip-Hop Summit fans came out in the thousands to support the growing hip-hop culture. Oh Eminem and Nas were another big reason too.

Both rappers were part of a large discussion with Rev Run, Obie Trice, Russell Simmons and the mayor of Detroit Kwame Kirkpatrick who all gathered together to speak on the empowerment of the growing hip hop generation. Attendance was a record high for such an event with an estimated 13,000 people at the Cobo Center for the Summit. Eminem was honored with the Outstanding Achievement Award for his charitable work in the communities (he participates in coat drives for children and youth activities) and Nas received the Heroes Award for his youth inspiring song “I Can Be What I Want to Be”.

Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick said, “Detroit is a shining example as the world mecca of cultural change. In Detroit today, what we celebrate is one love, one city, one aim, one direction.”
