Always working to raise the game up a notch, P.Diddy and Jermaine Dupri are featured in the May edition of The Source magazine. For over a decade Sean “P.Diddy” Combs has been a driving for in shaping and molding the hip-hop culture as a fashion designer, producer, artist, restaurateur and executive.
Re-entering the music game with the company he started, Bad Boy, P. Diddy has decided to revamp his plans to making hit records. “I just decided I’m gonna start all over. I done killed in the ‘90s. And now I’m like a new [kid] on the block with a new record company, hungrier than ever,” P.Diddy says. With a reported ten albums scheduled to drop this year with his mark on it, Diddy proves he not only has the desire to be number one, but the talent as well.
Entering the game at the young age of 14, Jermaine “JD” Dupri had an advantage that few record company executives could understand. You are only as strong as the people you surround yourself (and your company) with. “When the going gets tough, you got to stay with your peoples. Be patient. You got to go through hard times to get good results”, JD says on page 86. Having also changed record labels from Sony/Columbia (whom he had a longstanding relationship with) to Arista, JD paid his employees from his own personal funds. JD explains why it’s important to maintain integrity in an often gritty environment in “Mogul Matters”.
