Kool G. Rap and Necro recently announced the joint project titled The Godfathers, a project that came to fruition thanks to the latter MC. Speaking with AntiSellout, Kool G. explained that the album is in the works and that fans of both artists will be pleased.
“Necro was reaching out and then he finally reached out and connected with somebody in my camp and me and Necro had a meeting, we sat down and we talked and we agreed on doing this project and we still in the process of completion to the project,” he said. “Everything has been going good. I’ve been doing it with him. I think very highly of Necro, as far as his lyrical capability. It’s going to be hot. I think the fans are going to really appreciate it. Me and Necro have a very sort of similar fan base, because of the type of rap artists that we are.”
The Juice Crew alum also spoke on his influences, explaining that even though he was one of the foundation MCs in Hip Hop, he still molded his style by listening to other artists.
“It’s a combination of people with me. It’s Kool Moe Dee, Grandmaster Caz, Melle Mel and Silver Fox,” he continued. “I think when G. Rap really developed into this style that he would be legendary with, it was a combination of all those different artists, all combined in one. The storytelling might have come from a Grandmaster Caz influence. Dealing with real life issues, street life in particular, came from a Melle Mel influence. The sounding intelligent and coming across intelligent and to make sense with what I spit came from a Kool Moe Dee influence. Flow-wise, to have my flow not be the ordinary A-B-C kind of flow but to be technical and have different paths, twists and turns in it, that came from a Silver Fox influence.”
