Having starred in dozens of critically acclaimed films and earned an Academy Award nomination for her role in 2003’s Chicago, Queen Latifah is one of Hip Hop’s biggest Hollywood cross-over successes. Now, the Flavor Unit honcho is taking her talents to VH1’s new dramedy series “Single Ladies.”
According to TV Guide, Latifah will guest star on tonight July 10’s episode of “Single Ladies,” for which she also serves as executive producer. Latifah will play the role of newscaster Sharon Love, who reveals that she had a sexual encounter in college with character Val, played by Stacey Dash.
Although the role may seem to feed into the long-held rumors of her sexual orientation, Latifah told TV Guide don’t believe the hype; the role she plays in the show is separate from reality. At the end of the day, Latifah maintains that she isn’t afraid to take heat from tabloids and other gossip conglomerates on the issue.
“Not to stir the rumor-mill pot, but I have no problem confronting things like that,” she explained. “There’s no need to discuss it any further, but, hey, if [the tabloids] can have fun with me, I can have fun with them, right?”
