Russell Simmons is boldly stating his position against the ever-present possible war against Iraq and his promise to continue the anti-war campaign. Russell Simmons has joined other music artists as a member of the Musicians United to Win Without War Coalition.

According to MTV, Russell Simmons held a press conference in New York to state his reasoning for joining the Washington D.C. and New York based organization to stop the impending war. “Iraq’s been contained for 12 years,” Simmons said in a statement late Thursday. “Hundreds of thousands don’t have to die. Stand up, demonstrate, and have your voice heard.” Russell Simmons believes rap artist such as Jay-Z and P.Diddy can have a larger influence on the American people to cease any possible action against Iraq. “Puffy is much more well known and liked around the world than George Bush, and Jay-Z is much more well known and liked around the world than Colin Powell.”

The country should operate more on love and compassion”, Simmons continued in his statement to the media. Other members of this coalition are Jay-Z, Outkast, Zap Mama, Busta Rhymes, Sheryl Crow, Massive Attack, R.E.M ., Rosanne Cash, Lou Reed and David Byrne.
