Is it true? Could Jay-Z really be hanging up his microphone? Unfortunately, it may be more fact than fiction. Jay-Z, who is currently overseas on tour, told NME Magazine that he plans to make his next album “The Black Album”, his last. “There comes a time when you’ve got to go and challenge yourself with other areas, you know what I’m saying? Take myself out of my comfort zone. Take the safety blanket off”, Jay-Z said. Are you wondering what else he plans to do instead of rap? “A feature-length film would be cool. I haven’t seen 8 Mile yet. Maybe not the same storyline but maybe something. It’s a natural evolution for artists. I’ve done pretty much everything in hip-hop, you know what I’m saying”, Jay-Z continued.
But fans shouldn’t get too worried about losing sight of the infamous Shawn Carter as he plans to release a semi-autobiographical book along with his next album. “I’ve done basically everything, and it’s time to take on new and different challenges. I feel that I’m at that point in my career”, Jigga said. Although he is still enjoying the triple platinum success of “The Blueprint 2: The Gift and the Curse”, Jay-Z is already planning for his next album.
“I was trying to work with Prince on the last album, but I had to close it. But he let me use the sample in ’03 Bonnie and Clyde’ when Beyonce sings the bridge. So, we’ll probably do a song. But probably the last album will be 90 percent me.” Remember to catch Jay-Z performing his first live television concert on Showtime February 22nd.
