Last week, the Internet was dismayed to learn that Goodie Mob alum Khujo Goodie was arrested and sentenced to two years in prison. This past Tuesday, however, due the clarification of the mistaken ruling in a prior case, Khujo is free from jail.
“There’s great joy, great joy and happiness,” said Khujo’s lawyer Daniel Kane. “And also his friends from the music industry, they were very, very happy. Big Boi and Cee-Lo, Big Gipp, they were very happy, as well as [Khujo]’s wife, and his cousin.” All of the aforementioned artists were present for Tuesday’s trial, with Big Boi even providing testimony on the Goodie Mob rapper’s behalf.
According to Kane, Khujo had been in a Henry County prison since June 9 on the of charges three counts of felony possession of a firearm and one count of violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act for having marijuana in his possession.

Khujo had received a two year sentence for these charges due a prior firearms case in 1990. According to Kane, the Henry County courts has mistakenly thought Khujo was a convicted felon for this prior case, when in actuality, he had entered a plea under the First Offender Act. It was Kane’s investigation of this two decade old case that ultimately helped get him released.
“He had a case in 1990 when he was a teenager that was disposed of under the First Offender Act,” said Kane. “If you enter a plea under the First Offender Act you are not formally adjudicated guilty…the mistake was that they thought he was a convicted felon because they thought he was convicted in 1990. So I went back into the archives and got the 1990 case, researched it, pulled the records and presented them to the district attorney and the judge in Henry County and said he could never be a felon in possession of a firearm — there were three counts — because he was never a convicted felon. It was a first offender case, and the court agreed.”
Despite the ruling, Khujo is not entirely out of the clear. The Georgia rapper faces a new sentencing on August 3. In the meantime, however, Khujo has the release of Big Boi’s “Tangerine” – on which he and T.I. – to anticipate, as well as a reunion album with Goodie Mob.
