Months after his release from prison former Bad Boy rapper Shyne will be featured as the cover artist for XXL Magazine’s September issue. A dual issue, the September issue will also feature a cover with Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy.

In his cover story with the magazine Shyne speaks on a number of topics including his relationship with Diddy, serving time, and returning to Belize.

“I don’t know whether he was nervous, afraid,” said Shyne when asked about Diddy. “When you’re afraid and you’re emotional, that’s a different survival tactic. Those are the people that do anything, regardless of character and integrity, to preserve and protect themselves, regardless of who they hurt. I guess maybe that was the situation…But where I’m from, doesn’t matter. You lose everything for your comrade.”

Shyne explained to XXL that he saw the 10 years he served in prison as his “opportunity to concentrate.” He also revealed that even though he didn’t expect to serve the entire 10 years he still remained optimistic about his situation.

“…I never let it devastate me, although it was devastating, because I never thought I was gonna be in jail for 10 years,” said Shyne. “I thought I was gon’ make a bail. I thought I was gon’ get my shit reversed. I’m terribly optimistic.”

As far as his new home of Belize, Shyne said that he always “knew it was a possibility I might be deported.”

“I had lawyers, and I had people with serious relationships working to get me a fuckin’ opportunity to continue my life in the place that raised me and developed me and grew me, after payin’ my debt, ya dig,” Shyne explained.

The September issue of XXL Magazine will hit newsstands on Tuesday, August 10.
