Young Money artist Nicki Minaj has been receiving her share of props and acknowledgement recently. Since Sunday’s BET Awards where she won both the Best Female Hip Hop Artist and Best New Artist awards, she has now made Billboard history with her track “Your Love.”
The song, which features a sample from 90s pop singer Annie Lennox, is the first single from a female emcee to hit the top of the Rap charts since Missy Elliot’s “Work It” in 2002. In 2003, Lil Kim’s “Magic Stick” also reached No. 1, however the song featured fellow rapper 50 Cent.
Minaj said via Twitter, “Thank you for making ‘Your Love’ the #1 Rap song in the country.” Her album, according to colleagueBirdman, is set to release sometime this year.
