Ice-T Pays Tribute To ‘Favorite Rapper’ Prodigy With Final Pic Together

Ice-T has been reminiscing about the late, great Prodigy this week, paying homage to his “favorite MC” by sharing their last photo together.

The tribute arrived on Ice’s Instagram on Tuesday (October 24), just over a week ahead of what would have been the Mobb Deep rapper’s 49th birthday.

“Pic of me and @PRODIGYMOBBDEEP,” he began. “I’ve said many times that he was my Favorite MC/Rapper.. This was at a Concert we rocked in Vegas.. He passed away that same night.. [broken heart emoji] Life is fragile and precious. Appreciate every min.”

You can view the post below:

Prodigy was in Las Vegas on June 17, 2017 as part of The Art of Rap Tour alongside Ghostface Killah, Onyx, KRS-One and the festival’s founder, Ice-T. After Mobb Deep performed that Saturday night in extreme temperatures, he was taken to a local hospital where he ultimately died.

His team explained in a statement at the time” “It is with extreme sadness and disbelief that we confirm the death of our dear friend Albert Johnson, better known to millions of fans as Prodigy of legendary NY rap duo Mobb Deep.

“Prodigy was hospitalized a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis. As most of his fans know, Prodigy battled the disease since birth. The exact causes of death have yet to be determined. We would like to thank everyone for respecting the family’s privacy at this time.”

The Clark County Medical Examiner has determined Prodigy didn’t die from sickle cell anemia but rather an accidental choking. Prodigy was in a Las Vegas hospital when he reportedly choked on an egg. He was being treated for a sickle cell flare-up after performing in the sweltering Nevada heat.

The Hip Hop luminary was 42 at the time of his death. His funeral service was held nine days later in New York City and attended by fellow Mobb Deep member Havoc, LL COOL J, Ice-T, 50 Cent, Questlove, Remy Ma, Fat Joe and many more.

In 2022, just after the fifth anniversary of his passing, longtime collaborator The Alchemist promised to continue pushing Prodigy’s legacy forward.

“Missing my brother P,” he wrote in a tweet. “I got you i promise don’t worry ! The legacy will continue.”

    1. Favorite rapper? He died in the weakest way possible. The n**** choked on some 🥚’s. Guess the Ghost of Pac possessed those 🍳’s because he couldn’t even #SpitEmUp. Prodigy was known for talking trash about OG’s in his own hood. That’s why there can never be a Mural dedicated to him because they’ll just keep vandalizing it because of that.

      1. And you’re bitch made. STFU…you probably were a ballerina too as a kid just like Prodigy. GTFOH.

      1. FOH troll and/or hater, they got one of the best 3 straight album runs of ANY group or even solo artist (The Infamous, Hell on Earth, Murda Muzik), and P had a great solo career as well

      2. All those albums were garbage. Name one song from any of those albums that were memorable hits that people remember. Fuck Mobb Sleep. I rather listen to Wu Tang or Tribe Called Quest or Bone Thugs N Harmony, or even That Dogg Pound then these lame wannabe gangster clout chasers. There was a reason that Jay-Z blew them out.

      3. Im convinced youre simply trolling now, or no older than 24 at most and clearly didnt grow up with 90s hip-hop. But since you asked- from the Infamous- lets see, maybe one of the best hip-hop songs of all time, Shook Ones, Survival of the Fittest, Give Up the Goods, Temperatures Rising, Eye for an Eye…… on to Hell on Earth- the title cut, Still Shining, GOD Pt3…. Murda Muzik- ummm, the smash hit Quiet Storm, Its Mine, and The Realest (ft G Rap, but I doubt you even know who that is based on your ignorance)…. if you dont like Mobb Deep thats fine, they aint for everyone… but to say they aint got memorable hits and songs is straight up incorrect.

    2. Prodigy was one of the best rappers period. As he got older he sounded like a monster. RETURN OF THE MAC, PRODUCT OF THE 80’S AND H.N.I.C. 2 are classic albums. Hating on Prodigy is sucker shit. Check those albums.

    3. Two legends. Prodigy easily one of the nicest MCs of all time. I hate to use the “you just don’t understand his style” card, but with Prodigy that’s true. Casual listeners do not understand the nuances of his rhyme style. Using words that ‘almost’ rhyme, and using simple yet very complex rhyme structures and word play. If he wanted to be your run of the mill multi-syllable punch line rapper, he could’ve, but he didn’t want to. He was an artist. RIP. Albert Einstein and Hegelian Dialectic are masterpieces. I don’t throw that word around liberally. SUBSTANCE and STYLE. Peace.

    4. never understood like did he eat an egg whole, scramble how does that happennever understood like did he eat an egg whole, scramble how does that happen
