Hip Hop Album Sales: The Week Ending 7/14/2013

As planned Jay-Z’s first week at traditional retail with Magna Carta Holy Grail yielded the Brooklyn, New York emcee’s 13th #1 album. He is still behind The Beatles’ all-time record of 19, but comfortably ahead of Elvis Presley, who Jay surpassed with The Blueprint III back in 2009.

Released on his own Roc Nation label, Jay and his artist J. Cole owned two of the top three spots on this week’s charts. Cole’s Born Sinner had the top spot last week, for the back-to-back tandem.

Ciara took the other spot with her self-titled fifth album. Her first LP since joining Epic Records, home to her boyfriend Future, Ciara returned to the top three after a dismal #44 debut in 2010 with Basic Instinct. The Atlanta, Georgia-based singer’s latest features B.o.B., Nicki Minaj, and of course Future.

The other key debut came from New York Hip Hop veteran Tony Touch. The deejay and producer’s third LP in the Piece Maker series scored a Top 200 debut. The Sony Red-backed album featured appearances from Eminem, Erick Sermon, Kool G Rap, and The Beatnuts & Alkaholiks’ hybrid LikNuts.

Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail Goes To #1

With Jay-Z already receiving platinum plaques last week for his million-plus sold album, the Brooklyn icon went gold by the charts’ standards in his first week at retail. The legendary emcee’s sneak-attack album sold approximately 527,000 copies in its second week available to the masses, and first to those without his Samsung app.

The #NewRules roll-out actually surpassed the first week sales of Jay’s last solo album, 2009’s Blueprint III, which garnered 476,000 overall. Off the charts, the LP also broke two Spotify records this month to boot.

M.C.H.G. includes production by The-Dream, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, with Justin Timberlake also featured. In his interview with BBC Radio One, Jay-Z confirmed that the album will soon come to vinyl, with additional tracks.

Tony Touch Still Knows How To Assemble 50 MC’s

Another Brooklyn vet did well on the charts this week. Thirteen years since his first Piece Maker, Tony Touch released the third volume in the series with Piece Maker 3 (Return Of The 50 MC’s). Calling back to his popular 1990s mixtape series featuring many freestyles, Touch enlisted a number of Hip Hop vets including A.G., Masta Ace, Thirstin Howl III, Xzibit, Too Short, Royce Da 5’9, Raekwon, and KRS-One, among many others.

The Sony-backed LP which features Eminem’s “Symphony In H” sold approximately 2,400 units. Now a prominent Shady 45 host, the onetime Sunz Of Man and RZA producer was previously signed to Tommy Boy Records, EMI Records, and Ultra Records.

      1. Shut the fuck up, you don’t have to be hating to have an opinion, or to see the oversaturation of an artist that would be mediocre if not for the heavy marketing.

      2. Jay THE GOAT not, more like the most overhyped rapper. I agreed with JSaid but much respect to Jay Z as a business man.

      3. Biiiiitch Please! My fav rappers are all rich so I’m not worried about their finances.

        OVERRATED Rappers of All Times:

        #1. Jay Z
        #2. Drake
        #3. Wu Tan Clan

    1. Is J-Cole gonna hit gold before Kanye? Is Macklemore going to go plat before Kendrick? Will Mac Miller sell 200,000 records indie??

Stay tuned for scenes from the next Dragon Ball Z

    2. Hey little niggas, yall aint ready for WAR. R.O.C. too strong for yall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    3. ROC NATION>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Any other label

      1. thats not true. it took years before jay started winning. to say he been winning since day one is outrageous.

      2. “By the end of 1996, it [Reasonable Doubt] had sold 420,000 copies in the United States”

Biggie passed in 97 right? I rest my case

    4. as an accountant for YMCMB i can confirm that Gay-Z album sales have been overaccounted for, and he purchased 200k of them. in real sales, he only sold 120k. Wayne has gone gold and will be platinum in the next coming weeks ahead of Jcole or kayne or gay-z. wale will also be gold before cole and kayne. gay-z sales next week will start to decline because he sold out with this album. he said in the interview he wish he had ymcmb on side with him. not hes scared because his wifey is going to be kidnapped and raped by myself, wayne and birdman.

      1. More delusional lies you made up. You’re just mad because Hov sold more in the 1st week than Wayne did in 4 months.

      2. dont you get tired of writing the same bullshit every week? no one takes you serious. you are the worst person to ever post on this website. i cant even tell if you’re delusional or if you just trolling us extra hard to get a reaction

      3. Actually he sold 50K and ciara outsold him Kanye and J.Cole, all their albums were flops! Yolo!

      4. Birdman showed me a gay sex tape that took place during the BBC sessions. Jay Z cried out in his orgasm that he and his wife will buy 400k copies. YOLO.

      5. I am not lying. gay -z album did bomb. just look at his numbers, he had to get beyonce and roc nation and samsung to buy his album. next week his album will be off the charts and forgetten about. and rich gang will be #1.

      6. The only haters here is you and Bobyadick, hating on Jay-Z’s success by making up lies. Jay is more popular than YMCMB.

      7. You hating on both of us. We revived the comments section and made you all talk about hiphop again and all you do is hate on us. We state facts and you hate on us. Gay Z is wack. He sounds out of breath. YOLO.

      8. Nobody’s hating on you; they hate you. Y’all didn’t do shit. HiphopDX comments section were doing fine until you trolls showed up. You never stated ANY facts at all, just lies. And you’re still hating on Jay-Z.

      9. There’s a difference between an employee of ymcmb and a cocksucker stan. Also, you must love wayne’s music because you listen to him all the fucking time.

      10. You’re definitely the cocksucking stan. I hate Wayne’s music; i don’t even listen to his shit.

      11. Nope. I said Ii don’t listen to his music and I said I heard his music, big difference. You lost, I won.

    5. More #1 than any other rapper. More platinum albums than any other rapper. More classics than any other rapper. Lasted longer than most other rappers. More money than most other rappers. Even before MCHG…. Numbers don’t lie!

    6. as an accountant for YMCMB i can confirm that next week Rich gang will have the #1 spot and gay-z will be bombing. his album flopped he needed a company to buy his albums because he knew he cant move no units. here at YMCMB we have dedicated fans who buy our albums. kendrick lamar needs some more shine thats why he forced birdman to put him on the album . rich gang will go plat next week and be certifeied much quicker then gay-z will get his plaq.

      1. dont be mad because we are on top of the charts and will be again. tyga>kendrick. wayne>gay-z. drake>kanye. nicki>j cole

at YMCMB we have more fans then other artists and make better songs not all the same concepts like ur favorite rappers do

      2. What concepts? Pussy, pussy, weed, more weed, poppin bottles, skating, nigga, nigga, nigga, nigga, nigga, and more niggas?

      3. Nothing you say is true. You’re a troll on the internet, who’s gonna believe you besides other dumb trolls?

      4. Only concepts YMCMB have is money, money, molly, weed, pussy, pussy, nigga, nigga, nigga, nigga, nigga, nigga, and more nigga nigga

      5. ^^ no you just described Jay-Z and Roc Nation, Wayne rap’s about alot more deeper stuff than that! c5 will sell 1 million first week

      6. we also have new concepts we are introducing at YMCMB. these are the reasons why our artists are so successful and go gold or platinum first week.

      7. Keep making up lies, Bobyadick. Jay-Z and Roc Nation don’t talk about that in their songs. That’s all Wayne there. C5 won’t sell a million 1st week.

      8. I spoke to the chairman at RIAA and he said that Wayne is predicted to be in high demand for the release of c5, and he said it will be an album that fans from the likes of nas, tupac and Biggie will listen to.

      9. Weezy F Baaabay skatin on dat pussy nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga YOUNG MOOOLA BAAABY!!

        ~Typical Lil Wayne verse

      10. Young Hova My money tall, and I ball, I got money on money and my bankers got bankers

Typical Jay verse, unlike Wayne, Jay has no substance in his lyrics just a camel talking about money he doesnt have!

      11. “he knew he can’t move no units”.. his album just went gold, idiot, and that’s minus samsung..

    7. as an accountant for YMCMB i can confirm that next week RICH GANG will be #1. from the pre orders i have oounted so far, we have already been certified platinum, and with next weeks sales the album will be 2x platinum. and gay-z album will bomb and be off the charts which no one will be talking about.

      1. as an accountant for YMCMB i can confirm that I do not tell lies. the numbers speak for themselves. rich gang will be possibly 2x plat upon its release.

      2. you have ruined this website. i hope you get in a car accident and fucking burn slowly until your death

      3. Yes, I am an accountant. and I do not tell lies. see for yourself. I am on the payroll for YMCMB.

      4. I am not telling lies. you dont like to hear the truth about how powerful YMCMB are so you choose to hate on their accountants? that is very low of you YMCMB haters.

      5. Yes, you are telling lies. Your idols don’t run the world, bitch. They’re just a shitty record label.

      6. Ace Hood gonna go gold in its first week, Rich Gang will be 2X platinum the week after that, and Jay Sean will be gold 1st week. YMCMB running this fucking game. You secretly like wayne’s work because you obviously keep listening to his work.

      7. Dental hit that last comment out the fuckin park, why do you know everything about a niggaif you hate him, it sounds like confused admiration to me.

      8. You hating now but you will listen to the albums and make bullshit lies. That’s how I know you a secret fan.

      9. I used to be a troll on this website. I wasnt a delusional dickrider spreading lies I was more of an all around hater hating on everyone but then I GOT A FUCKING JOB and had to give it up.

Take my word for it. Dentaldamboy has a very sad life. It is very likely that he is a young adult that still lives with his single mother. He doesn’t, have any friends and contributes zero to society!

      10. I can guarantee you right now more than one person uses my name. Not in a negative way either. I guess everyone here has a sad life. Except me.

      11. I have a job at ymcmb, drake will stay at ymcmb, ace hood will go gold 1st week, and fathers and sons kissing is not gay but natural.

      12. There you go repeating the same bullshit again. What are you trying to accomplish trolling here?

      13. I just called YMCMB and they claim to have no knowledge of you and that they have NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU. They said you are pathetic and making their label and fans look desperate.

      14. Nigga, this ain’t a game. You’re not a part of YMCMB and you never will be. Hop off, groupie bitch.

    8. Lil Wayne’s usual songs goes like

Nigga skate on a pussy nigga get money nigga poppin molly nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga, i’m skatin nigga nigga

    9. Wow, Jay-Z sold more in 1 week than Lil Wayne sold in 4 months! And thats without counting the 1 million copies given away by Samsung!

      Jay-Z won! Young Money LOST

    10. Boy was I ever right when I said Flop Montana’s album would be completely forgotten about and off the charts less than 2 months after it came out! NY Album of the decade??? HILARIOUS!

      1. Montana wished he could even sell that much. Hov already sold gold 1st week not counting Samsung sales.

      2. bahahahhahhahahahha 5 million copies…nobody sells 5 million copies even your BF weezy.. what are you talking about dentaldam you a fuckin tard workin at whole foods. ya bish!!! ya bish ya dentalmouthcondomdicksuckin bish!… #-:thegod

    11. WOW mackelmore caught up to kendrick when kendrick was 850k macklemore was at like 500k damn they runnin it with consistant sales.

      1. ^true

both kendrick are macklemore are dope enough i guess, its all good. I think Kendrick’s better though

    12. Drake will shit on every album up there after drake goes platinum in his first week you delusional cunts can accept that drake runs rap

      1. Drowning in maggot infested baby shit, eyelids clogged with brown decay..only God can help me says:

Drake’s not that good you stupid bitch

    13. I know it’s only halfway through the year, but I think J Cole has the best hip-hop album so far.

      2013: J Cole – Born Sinner

2012: Kendrick Lamar – Good Kid, m.A.A.d city

      2011: Big Krit – Return of 4eva

2010: Kanye West – My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Those are my personal favorite albums, but I think Kanye’s and Kendrick’s are the only true classic albums (mainstream) this decade so far. J Cole’s was great, but not classic. Also think Kendrick, Cole, and Krit are the best of the newschool.

      1. “J Cole’s was great, but not classic.”

I feel the same exact way about Kendrick Lamar’s “Good Kid, m.A.A.d City” and “Section.80” albums.

I really adore Section.80’s wide variety of subject matter and its take on social and political issues, but I thought that some things were holding it back from being a true classic (ex: impact, structure of certain songs, etc).
“Poe Man’s Dream”, “Rigamortis”, “HiiPower”, and “Ab-Soul’s Outro” to me were the only classic-sounding songs from that album”.

GKMC has maybe 5 quality classic-sounding songs (“Sherane aka Master Splinter’s Daughter”, “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe”, “Sing For Me I’m Dying of Thirst”, “Real”, “The Recipe”) at most out of 14 (plus bonus tracks).

The song “Poetic Justice” had potential to be a classic, but Drake and the beat/song structure ruined its chances IMO. I thought Ludacris (with his 2003 rap style) would’ve delivered better as a feature. The intro to that song was dope and groovy as fuck, but the producer just didn’t stick with building onto it. “The Recipe” should’ve been on the main album track list, and “Poetic Justice” should’ve been on the bonus track list.

While most of that album was above average, I don’t consider it classic and it should not be compared to “Illmatic”. It’s a solid effort at best, and I’ll commend K.Dot for that since talent is a rarity in the mainstream nowadays. While Kendrick demonstrates skill and qualities of a beginner artisan, I must confess that he and his work is often excessively overhyped since the most West Coast rappers are underground/silent and mainstream hip hop is on its deathbed.

People seem to think of Kendrick as this “Resurrection of Tupac and West Coast Rap” or “Savior of Hip Hop” when that’s not necessarily the case. Of course Kendrick will outshine the buffoons in the game now. It’s not that hard to do.

Also, I don’t feel that Kanye West’s “MBDTF” is a classic either. It has nice songs on it with maybe one or two greats, but the album as a whole is not timeless as people make it out to be. I know people want hip hop to be excellent again, but these delusions and overpraise won’t help hip hop and the current low standards we have for things now. The excessive amount hype generated and pressure put onto these artists are ruining the genre, along with the current rap climate of BS rappers and people who fell of in terms of quality.

      2. I respect your post, but I’m really curious as to how old you are and what you consider which albums are modern classics. I’m 22, So I didn’t get into rap in the 90’s. So we may have different standards but I strongly believe that Kendrick’s GKMC has a strong impact on my generation, which doesn’t automatically make it a classic, but I do believe that this album will still be talked about and listened to 10 years from now. It’s a new generation, with new rappers and new fans. I can see how someone who came up on Biggie, Pac, & Nas (or even rappers before that) to find it hard to view any modern day albums as classics. That post was just my opinion, but many others agree that GKMC and MBDTF are critically acclaimed and viewed as “classic”. Nothing against you if you don’t believe that, you have your own opinions as well. Thanks for your reply anyways.

      3. I’m almost 20, and I gotta say that I grew up listening to 90s hip hop.

To me, classic albums are Illmatic, The Infamous, Enter The 36 Chambers, Only Built For Cuban Linx, Doggstyle, The Chronic, The Black Album, Reasonable Doubt, Eminem’s first 3 major studio albums, A Tribe Called Quest’s first 3 studio albums, etc. I prefer old boom bap 90s and the West Coast G-funk. There’s some music that I enjoy from our current era, but not much.

A lot of the shit coming out now has no depth in lyricism and production. For fucking real, I was watching MTV Jams a few days ago and some blackass rapper named RICH HOMIE QUAN came on the screen mumbling like a mongoloid retard with his pre-K raps and BS music video/song “Type Way”. This kind of shit is an abomination to music. And it was “Jam of The Week”, meaning it will be forgotten and won’t last anymore than a week technically speaking. When it comes down to today’s music, I prefer some underground hip hop with a few mainstream songs in between.

Now about GKMC and MBDTF, I’ll just say that time will tell. As of right now, I still don’t see much impact and influence that these albums have caused. Rappers are still rapping about bullshit over tired trap/bubblegum beats, and I don’t see too many people talking about and blasting out these albums outside of the Internet. Maybe in the West Cost there are some blasting GKMC in their cars, but that’s about it. Most people of my generation still don’t even seem to care for good music and things that are important.

Critics, fans, and listeners alike can overpraise something hot, new, and popular at the moment, but we will truly see if these two albums age into timeless elements at least a decade from now. I reckon they’ll be mentioned as much as Lupe Fiasco’s first 2 studio albums are, which is here and there. They might be mentioned, but not in the same breath as the classics of the late 80s, 90s, and early 00s. Merely, I think they’ll just be considered the best hip hop albums of the 2010s decade.

      4. ^agreed for the most part. I’m only 17 yet I enjoy music from the 90s FAR more than music of today. I always ask myself why this is and to me, it feels like hip hop has lost some of its essence. The feeling you get from “Gimme the Loot”, “Suicidal Thoughts”, “Halftime”, “Nigga Witta Gun”, “Lyrical Gangbang”, “If I Had”, “Bring Da Ruckas”, ect. – i just don’t feel that with tracks from today (for the most part). GKMC was fuckin good and I’d deem it a classic for one reason. As you both know, an album’s relevancy and impact is relative to the time period in which it was released. GKMC dropped in 2012, during the era we know now where a LARGE majority of mainstream hip hop has fallen off quality wise to the point where it can almost be considered as an insult to the culture. Because GKMC displayed talent, storytelling, excellent production, cohesiveness, and originality (many attributes also heard in classics of the 90s btw) in an era of pop rap, i’d say it is a classic. It is a classic because of the album means. It’s a cry back to the classics mentioned above this response.

    14. In other news, Jay-Z got himself another Top 10 single with Holy Grail debuting at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100.

    15. Men lie, dentaldamboy (women) lie, NUMBERS DONT LIE!

HOV sold more in 1 week and Lil Waynes weak ass album has sold in 4 months and that nigga had to fake his own death for promo!

    16. DO NOT FEED THESE LOSER TROLLS. STOP REPLYING TO THE FUCKTARDS AND THEY WILL GO TO A NEW WEBSITE

    17. OK so with the RIAA’s new policy does this means that in fact Jay Z has “Sold” 1.5 million copies f his album? because Samsung bought a million digital copies and this figure shown here is for hard copies of sold. If I am wrong please school me some one.

      1. what do you mean? 527k legit sales plus 1 million from samsung. He aint have to inflate shit to sell more than your favorite rapper

      2. He wasnt trying to inflate sales he was trying to inflate his bank account. And it worked fuck boy!

      1. Ciara was hot in 2005, but Rihanna outshone her. Mario and other R&B singers at the time were hot also, but Chris Brown outshone them all. NE-YO and Usher were the runner-ups. So unless you are Beyonce or Rihanna, you will not sell much as a black female R&B/pop singer and your album will most likely go latex plastic.

    18. As an accountant for YMCMB I can confirm to all you haters that I am an accountant for YMCMB. We have the best records for platinum selling artists. you will see next week when our team releases their rich gang album, we already have 1 million pre-orders and will sell another mill on top of that. beating out gay-z and his samsung deal.

      1. naw, more like 100k, 150k at most if they’re lucky.. i’ll take professionals over an internet troll..

      2. ‘As an accountant for YMCMB I can confirm to all you haters that I am an accountant for YMCM’

what a hoe ass granola eating cashier of a biatch!!
        #arrowdickdagod-:

    19. Off the top of my head, ten random emcees who body Hov; Roc Marciano, Sean Price, Torae, Evidence, Termanolygy, Chino XL, MF Doom, Ill Bill, Hannibal Stax, Blaq Poet…this list is actually endless. Any asshole who co- signs garbage like Yeezus and MCHG, an album that has to rely on the services of faggots like timberlake to shift units, but doesn’t support the artists mentioned does not have the right to consider themselves a hip-hop fan.

      1. You sound like one of those internet hipster nerds that only listens to underground rap and think your cool because nobody else listens to your shit. You probably walk around with a Sean Price shirt and an MF Doom helmet. While I agree that Yeezus and MCHG was mediocre, you sound like you hate anything mainstream just because it’s mainstream. I fuck with some underground shit like Reks and Locksmith, but I fuck heavy with mainstream shit too. There’s good and bad underground, and there’s good and bad mainstream, you just gotta find a balance holmes. Go throw away your Sean Price shirt, buy some decent clothes, go out and get a girl, and learn to appreciate music for what it is.

      2. i hate rappers who are making good music that the masses love and are making a sh*t ton of money.

Real rappers do not make money and do it for the art. I’ma go listen to some Jurassic 5, peace

      3. co sing with hiipower. ppl need to undertand to follow the music they love regardless who likes them, how many units sold or how much they worth. i still be rockin 50 new and old. jays new album was aiight compared to the other bs out there. but no classic. but cuz i like these dudes doesnt mean shit. cuz i still bump one be lo, blu, reks and bishop lamont. dont follow trends follow the music..im out

      4. @ HiiiPower; I’m too Black and working- class to qualify a as an “Internet hipster”. Anyway, anybody visiting these pages should be just as au fait with the artists I mentioned as me becausethey recieve the same coverage on this site as mainstream rappers. That still doesn’t distract from my main point that Jay’s released an awful record. I shouldn’t have to mitigate my argument by stating that I also listen to commercial hip-hop like Kendrick. Hip-hop has changed from the 80s and 90s when Dre, Snoop, Cube, PE, Wu and Tribe were the mainstream top of the pops artists who sold a ton of records, but were still respected by inveterate music fans. It’s shame in this modern climate rappers have to choose between making authentic hip-hop like Planet Asia that has a recondite audience or making abysmal music like Minaj, Lil Wayne and shifting units, and to shift units, you have to placate a non- traditional hip-hop demographic ie; white, middle- class, gay or teenage girl. A nerd is some one who begrudges Bam Bam his new found fame and audience, but I would love to see him reach the eminem levels he’s expected, as long as he doesn’t alter his sound and image.

    20. For 4 weeks, a hip-hop album has topped the charts. There’s currently 5 hip-hop albums in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. Hip-hop has come so far and is still making history.

      1. Damn. Another flop from Ace Hood. I went to Hits Daily Double and saw those projections. Sad and funny.

      2. he had a dream about a bugatti, maybe he will wake up with a platinum record….. that is if you could get a platinum record for selling 50k copies

      3. That’s what you think, dentalboy. These projections are always accurate and Ace Hood will sell around 28-32k 1st week.

      4. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        Good joke.

      5. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      6. no wonder that niggas fake rolex bezel fell apart! he cant afford a real watch with sales like this. cant believe these niggas release flop after flop but wanna rap about that new bugatti.

niggas had to borrow t-pains bugatti just to shoot the video.

    21. As the janitor for Cash Money since the 90s, let me just say that no one named dentaldamboy is employed here. Just setting the record straight. Also, I heard Wayne and Drake arguing about Drake’s contract. I don’t know what happened, but Drake has been distant from YMCMB ever since.

    22. jay hova going gold in 1st week, technically 1.5x platinum with samsung.. jay making history.. #newrules..

    23. as an accountant for Roc Nation, we are swimming in jay z’s pool. there is no water, just money. Gold in one week. It took weezy like 8 weeks to do that. i guess people are starting to realize that Lil Wayne is not that great and doesnt make sense

    24. In case yall havent figured it out. dentaldamboy replies to his own comments. Anonymous always replies after him. thats him also having a converstaion with himself.

    25. Is it just me, or is most of the Trap and Pretty-Boy music dying out and losing its popularity in our very eyes? Think about it.

Tyga, Wiz Khalifa, Travis Porter, Chris Brown, Diggy, Big Sean (where is he?), Lil Twist, Lil Chuckee, and the rest of the Pretty Boys flopped.

Nicki Minaj (Ugly Broad) still didn’t go platinum yet and is losing buzz and likability.

French Montana, Ace Hood, Future, Meek Mill and other Trap rappers flopped. Wale is the only one with an album what debuted #1 on the charts, but he’ll probably starting flopping soon. TI is the only one close to gold with 485,000 copies sold with little to no hype. Rick Ross already went gold.

2Chainz (Trap/Pretty Boy) got robbed and is losing hype and buzz.

Lil Wayne (Pretty Boy) is struggling to go platinum, although the first “I Am Not a Human Being” album also went gold at best, so I’m not sure if he’s really flopping.

Kanye West (Bullshit) is losing to a newbie named J. Cole.

Macklemore, Kendrick, J. Cole, and veterans like Jay-Z are selling pretty well. Drake and Lil Wayne are the only likeable Pretty Boys left.

      1. i think people are just tired of corny cookie cutter rap.

Trap music was never huge, there are exceptions like TI and Jeezy.

Kanye is about to go gold, not to bad in “internet” era

2 Chainz doesnt have a buzz because he doesnt have any music out now. i do not think he will sell as good as last time unless he has crazy banger for the clubs or something

      2. “Anonymous:

uhm its all roc nation how can kanye lose he millions ahead of j.cole”

Kanye used to be a Roc Nation artist. Now he’s just closely affiliated with them and is best friends with Jay-Z of course. He is now part G.O.O.D Music, the label he owns. We already know Kanye is worth nearly $100 million, and J. Cole has maybe a million or two. That’s not what I was talking about though. I’m talking about the current sales battle between Yeezus and Born Sinner. Born Sinner sold nearly 20,000 copies more than Kanye’s latest album. Isn’t that a sign?

    26. I highly suggest checking out the Tony Touch joint. It’s nuts. Even if you don’t buy the album, at least listen to a few of the tracks. If you’re a 90’s head, you will like this product!

      1. i skipped it after i saw the artist on the album, i have not heard of any of them with the exception of maybe 4-5

      2. DO NOT BUY THAT ALBUM FROM SOUL TEMPLE MUSIC THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND NOT SEND YOU A THING. NOT TO MENTION THEY WILL NOT RESPOND TO ANY EMAILS ASKING WHERE YOUR RECORDS ARE AFTER 3 MONTHS OF WAITING.

Still waiting for that 12 reasons to die fuck it i guess i aint supporting ghost but its not like i didnt try

    27. fuck lil wayne dat nigga is the worst crack head ever ..case close jay z is the best rapper ever n he ffucking proove it fuck dat young money shit they nothing but garbage

      1. Kill yourself, you fucking loser. You should kill yourself for coming on this website every goddamn day posting shit about Ja Rule. What a poor excuse for a human being you are. You’re even worse than Ja Rule…

      1. pretty sure it costs 2 quarters at least to make a phone call now from a payphone if thats what you were implying

      1. MAYBE TOP 4-5, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HIM GRABBIN NUMBER ONE SPOT BUT PEOPLE ARE NOT SUPPORTING QUALITY STREET MUSIC LIKE ACE. BUT I’M NOT MAD BECAUSE JAY-Z (WHO WILL STAY ON NUMBER ONE) DROPPED ONE OF HIS BEST ALBUM IN YEARS.

BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS DEBUTED IN TOP 10 (8 IF I’M NOT WRONG) AND NOW HE HAS THE BIGGEST SINGLE OF HIS CAREER (BUGATTI), IT WILL BE THE BIGGEST ALBUM OF HIS CAREER.

    28. Good shit for hov but this album wont be bumped for too long. And eminem will out sell this album later this year easily, nigga wont need a 1,000,000 free giveaway app either….

    29. ja rules album sales will outsell all these no name niggaz out there right now. half a mil aint shit

      1. stop lying, we all know ja rule the only nigga selling records these days. btw ja rule the only nigga allowed to say nigga.

      1. this dentaldamboy out in colorado wearing hiking boots eating granola trying to poop regular #-:arrowdickdagod

    30. “French Montana, Ace Hood, Future, Meek Mill and other Trap rappers flopped”

Meek Mill sold 300,000 +. That’s not a flop. Ace has a loyal fanbase, and is capable of cranking out more albums. You gotta remember albums don’t get promoted anymore, so it’s literally impossible for any of these rappers to do numbers unless you’re reaching an entirely different demo like Kendrick or Wackel.

      1. YEAH THAT MAYBE TRUE THAT THESE RAPPERS HAVE A TOUGH TIME SELLING RECORDS BECAUSE THERE NO LONGER PROMOTING THEM BUT U ALSO HAVE TO LOOK AT THE FACT LIKE U SAID TO SOME OF THESE RAPPERS HAVE A VERY STRONG LOYAL FANBASE THAT WILL SUPPORT THEM NO MATTER THE LACK OF PROMOTIONS SO IT’S NOT IMPOSSIBLE FOR SOME OF THEM TO SALE SO MANY ALBUMS AND GO CERTIFIED GOLD, PLATINUM, OR EVEN MULTI PLATINUM IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME LOOK AT DRAKE WITH TAKE CARE ALBUM 631,000 FIRST WEEK THREE OR FOUR WEEKS LATER IT WAS OVER A MILLION SOLD AND J.COLE CURRENTLY WITH BORN SINNER FEW WEEKS AGO IT SOLD 297,000 FIRST WEEK AND HERE NOW ITS ALMOST SOLD 500,000 COPIES SO AS ALONG AS U HAVE THAT FANBASE U CAN MOVE SOME UNITS

      2. “Meek Mill sold 300,000 +. That’s not a flop”

^ weren’t you the one saying Nas owed money to Def Jam because he sold about the same as Meek?

      3. so its because kendrick and macklemore have different demographics and thats why they are more successful than everyone on MMG?

fuck outta here meek had more radio play than kendrick ever did leading up to their album releases

    31. Damn J.cole killing still four weeks after release man he is shittin on not only Kanyes Yeezus album but his own debut Cole World The Sideline Story it took about 5 months for Cole World to reach 500k but now it looks like Born Sinner will reach that sales mark in only 5 weeks all he needs to do is sale over 21k this time next week and j.cole will have two number 1 albums that went gold under his belt HEY MAN THAT IS AWESOME Y’ALL ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL VICTORY FOR THE LIGHT SKINNED RAPPERS DOING IT BIG IN THE GAME I GOT THE SHOTS OF HENNESSEY READY FOR BORN SINNER GOING CERTIFIED GOLD NEXT WEEK AND IM SAVING SOME JUST IN CASE HE EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS EVEN MORE AND GOES PLATINUM BUT UNTIL THEN WE WILL CELEBRATE THE BIRTH OF A GOLDEN SINNER LOL BORN SINNER BECOMING A GOLD SINNER LOL

      1. I would like to make one thing clear. I am not Lil Wayne, Tyga’s, or Birdman’s personal accountant. I am a corporate accountant for Cash Money Records. Cash Money Records is always current on its obligations to the IRS and all state and local tax collection agencies. However, I do know that both Wayne and Tyga are very liquid. Any tax delinquencies on their parts are due to the IRS not accepting certain write-offs that they claim. it is not due to a lack of money to pay their taxes. All of these discrepancies have been quickly resolved. In some instances, it is beneficial for an individual to forfeit properties whose market values are below appraised values to extinguish tax liens.

    32. Jay-z is a titan. Ciara Lmao. The same for Wale’s weak ass. But I think this might be the first album Kanye released as a solo studio album that didn’t go plat.

    33. You YMCMB haters are fucking idiots. Because I’m an accountant for Cash Money Records, I spend a lot of time with Birdman. What some of you may not know is Michael Jackson was planning on signing to YMCMB at the time of his death. He had even changed his stage name to Mic Jackin. He was planning on releasing 2 Major albums of hard hitting Trap shit, one a collaborative album with Lil Wayne titled Trap Kids.

Since Michael’s demise Cash Money records have actually teamed up with NASA and are creating a Global headquarters in Space and on the Moon. The reason for this is to create a new genre of hiphop called “Zero Gravity Rap”. Lil Wayne was hospitalized because during his first zero gravity rap training session he rapped so hard he created a Blackhole that nearly engulfed him. The universe was not ready for his talent so it tried to take him, luckily all it got was his chain and a couple of Big Mac vouchers. All you haters are gonna be sorry soon YMCMB will be so big it will have its own gravitational pull meaning you will be drawn into it no matter what you do.

      1. the only ‘black hole’ wayne been near is Turdman’s(Turdman=Birdman.. see what i did there?) corn shoot, take your granola eatin ass back to Colorado Dentaldink, sincerly, your friend.. Arrow Dick Da God or -: (as you know as)

    34. everyone salute this fucking over rrated POPSTAR for his #1 streak and sales yet yall are the same exact niggas thatl say sales dont mean shit when it comes to a top emcee…. fuckin hypocrites can anyone answer me that 1 ?

      1. Bathing in the nail polish and the juices of shit covered rotted fruit , i pray i vomit so i can add to my infestation says:

the four that responded are not qualified to comment on this site; they are not smart enough to comprehend anything relevant. Fuck Jay-Z

    35. GIVE ME A CHANCE
Youtube is all about finding new artist, & though I been rapping for a while im still consider a new artist. I just want my music heard thats all, im not looking for no record deal, getting famous ‘r anything like that.! so please just spare a few sec. to check me out, & if you like what you heard please SUBSCRIBE so ill know you actually listen & support

    36. Ace Hood is projected to sell 30k first week

He’s gonna have to change his name to Ace Wood after all the flops he’s had!

    37. That’s strange how the initial projections were in the 300,000 range, but now they’re saying he did over 500,000. Sounds mad suspect Hov.

      1. the initial projections were for 350,000 and 400,000 but they put them up after a few days. i dont see how thats suspect. album got a lot of buzz and hype around it

    38. “Oh, yeah. So loyal, they barely got any of his albums to go gold”

Glance at the comments over on Itunes. He’s got alot of fans.

    39. “weren’t you the one saying Nas owed money to Def Jam because he sold about the same as Meek?”

The key difference being that was Meek’s first album. All he has to do is step his singles game up a little and with a favorable release date he could improve. Nas on the other hand probably had a high budget for that album, and with only one single failing to generate much interest, no way the label came out ahead. Maybe they made out better digitally, but I doubt it.

    40. “meek had more radio play than kendrick ever did leading up to their album releases”

Radio play with what? That 1 Drake collabo? Kendrick had way more hype going in, and was being co-signed by Dre. Meek was on some MMG songs, but those got played out before his album dropped.

      1. Quote-boy making up lies. Meek also had Young and Getting It with Kirko Bangz and collaborated with a lot of artists. Meek had more hype than Kendrick and was co-signed by Ross. You’re making up excuses for Meek’s failures.

      2. Meek had Amen with Drake, Burn with Big Sean, Young and Getting It with Kirko and Believe it with Rick Ross…. not to mention all those songs he put out for free on his mixtapes that were getting spins. fucking dumbass shoulda put them on the album. Kendrick had no where near the buzz Meek Mill had

      3. ^^^^^^ And NONE of that shit was ever hot. Admit it nigga, Kendrick had more buzz and thus sold more units

    41. “Meek also had Young and Getting It with Kirko Bangz”

Half a brain… Has Kirko Bangz released an album yet?

    42. “i dont see how thats suspect. album got a lot of buzz and hype around it”

Samsung users got it for free. The stores have full shelves of this album. It’s doing well on Itunes, but to the tune of 500k? I’d believe 350-375. That makes sense considering illegal downloading, but oh well. Jay’s still got it.

    43. Ace Hood running this game. He will go gold 1st week, drake will stay at ymcmb, fathers and sons kiss all the time and are straight.

    44. Damn 527K for #MCHG that is crazy!! K dot still aint went platinum niether has Macklemore, Lil Wayne sells are decent and Born sinner outsold Yeezus!

    45. “Meek had Amen with Drake, Burn with Big Sean, Young and Getting It with Kirko and Believe it with Rick Ross”

Why should those have been hit songs? Big Sean can’t do numbers. Kirko doesn’t even have an album out, and Ross is on a lot of singles that don’t blaze the charts.

      1. funny how meek said on twitter he was gonna fuck around and go plat first week! then kendrick dropped album of the year and stole all his shine. that album wont even go gold if he got murdered like pac

    46. “So you’re saying that Meek can’t sell. No surprise there”

No. I’m saying despite bad singles he still sold 300,000, and should do more if he improves them.

    47. “then kendrick dropped album of the year and stole all his shine. that album wont even go gold if he got murdered like pac”

Album of the year? lol That sleepy thing? He’s not even platinum, and had his shine stolen by Drunklemore. Plus… last time I checked, Meek was jumping on albums, and about to be on Self Made 3. Not bad for a non seller huh?

      1. self made 3 ooooHHHHHH AHHHH, another flop for MMG no one is checking for that shit

kendrick already got his platinum record fool. he did it in 8 months when Officer Ricky couldnt do it in 8 years! nigga had Dr Dre and Jay-Z on the same song and still flopped

    48. “Kendrick had more buzz and thus sold more units”

This is actually true. Kendrick did have a shitload of hype, co-signs, dickriders, and buzz. However, he also has more talent than most (if not all) of these new mainstream rappers today. Those are the reasons why he outsold most of those shitty rappers. These are facts you cannot deny.

    49. “he did it in 8 months when Officer Ricky couldnt do it in 8 years!”

Officer Ricky will get to 10 albums long before Kenwack does. Nobody cares whether they go platinum or not. Obviously, he’s selling or else he would be long gone by now. That’s that homie.

      1. id rather have 1 classic platinum album like 50 or kendrick than a bunch of flops that all sound the same and no one remebers

      2. ricky when in the game since the early 2000’s ofcourse he will have a larger catalog than kendrick at this point. hes also like 10 years older

    50. 500,000 + every time out is selling plenty, especially in this age where even T.I., Jeezy, Game, etc. can’t even crack a mill. You know this as fact.

    51. “id rather have 1 classic platinum album like 50 or kendrick than a bunch of flops that all sound the same and no one remebers”

Artists more accomplished and time tested than Kendrick had to craft a body of work which then could be analyzed and debated over. Ross may not have classics, but he’s quietly logged almost 10 years in the game. Everybody works with him, and he’s had to gain respect the hard way, by actually putting in work. He’s got the worst fans in hip hop, so you should be glad he still gives you minions new music to bump in your cubicles.

    52. “they all did it before though multiple times in a time when ross was out too”

Who cares half a man. Focus on the sales climate now. Nobody but Eminem, Drake and Jay are capable of doing platinum plus numbers. I usually make fun of Curtis Wackson, but let’s look back at his Interscope days where he was putting up crazy numbers. Now let’s look at Kenwack Lamar and his little platinum certification which proves nothing. He’s not doing anything countless others haven’t done before. And the one guy who hasn’t done it is everywhere in hip hop, putting out albums, and using negative press to his advantage.

      1. Kendrick is doing it in a time when as you say, only Eminem, Drake and Jay are doing it. Hes already up there with the greats Ross whole career is a fail

      2. “And the one guy who hasn’t done it is everywhere in hip hop, putting out albums, and using negative press to his advantage.”

Who’s that one guy because that could be any rapper.

    53. “as opposed to gaining respect the easy way????”

Nothing comes easy in the entertainment/music world. Ross is one of the most bootlegged artists out today. He puts Drake on a song, and despite the song going platinum, the album gets bootlegged instead of bought, and only goes gold. That’s called struggle. Are you struggling to comprehend all this or do I need to use flash cards?

      1. “Ross is one of the most bootlegged artists out today”

Now you’re just making shit up. Where are you getting this information

      2. Of course it’s easy to make it. Just have a bunch of people kiss your ass, have some connections, and you’re successful.

    54. “ricky when in the game since the early 2000’s ofcourse he will have a larger catalog than kendrick at this point. hes also like 10 years older”

50 Cent hasn’t had an official album out in 4 years. What about Jualz Santana? Dre? The Lox? lol You don’t assume artists will have large catelogs of music.

    55. I wish I had signed Drake cause honestly folks Kendrick, despite his competitive nature, makes some of the worst music I’ve ever heard. I still cash the checks, but cringe everytime I have to hear Swimming Pools. Can someone please tell this dude to stop sounding like Janet Jackson.

      1. do you think jimmy listens to any of the music he puts out? he dont care as long as he gets paid. i saw this niggas playlist and he listens to weak ass music what do you expect from a 60 year old whitey

    56. “do you think jimmy listens to any of the music he puts out?”

He better. He’s cutting the checks.

    57. “Mixtapes count too. Its not all about official albums”

Mixtapes are free, sport, and don’t count as official albums. Thanks for stopping by though.

      1. no one said they count as official albums but were talking about catalogs of music. thats why when you look up an artists discography you will see a list of mixtapes

    58. “i would think that the biggest sellings PLATINUM artists also happen to be the most bootlegged”

Most people buy the bigger artists albums in stores, or off Itunes.

      1. no they dont they get bootlegged just as much if not more than a gold selling artist like officer ricky

    59. “Kendrick is doing it in a time when as you say, only Eminem, Drake and Jay are doing it”

Doing what? Going platinum? He’s not outselling the perceived greats of hip hop, and can’t even sell 2 mill like Drake. To be king in hip hop you have to be larger than life. Kendrick is a sensitive little girl who makes sensitive music for sensitive people. I’ll take 600,000 and gangsta over 1 mill and feminine rap any day of the week.

      1. What you just said is a lie. Your description of Kendrick is wrong and applies to Drake. Ross is not a gangster, BTW.

      2. He’s not outselling the perceived greats of hip hop

He selling more than Snoop, LL Cool J, T.I., Lil Wayne, and all sorts of legends

      3. LMAO @ 600k and ganster

you know that boy was a fucking cop right, after he went to university to study criminal justice…. he used to handcuff the drug dealers he pretending to be and lock them in a cell!

he used to make niggas bend over and spread they assholes and cough to search for the drugs he raps about selling!

fuck outta here Kendrick is from COMPTON and seen and done more gangster shit than William Roberts ever has.

    60. “Kendrick is a sensitive little girl who makes sensitive music for sensitive people”

Wrong. You got Kendrick mistake for Drake.

    61. “no they dont they get bootlegged just as much if not more than a gold selling artist like officer ricky”

Eminem still goes platinum. Jay Z always goes platinum. If Detox came out it would go platinum, all by store sales. People bootleg crappy albums, or albums they say they hate, but secretly are interested in hearing. Why people hate Ross is anyone’s guess. He’s no better or worse than scores of other fools whose personal credentials are false.

      1. em and jay always go platinum but they also get millions of illegal downloads….. ross not so much

      2. you are an idiot if you think people only bootleg “crappy albums” (nice shot at officer ricky by the way LMAO just stop it)

you are digging a hole you cant get out of man

      3. “He’s no better or worse than scores of other fools whose personal credentials are false.”

yes he is. he is the biggest fraud in the history of rap music and he lied about it to top it all off. fakest nigga to ever grab a mic 120%

    62. “outta here Kendrick is from COMPTON and seen and done more gangster”

      Yeah, from his bedroom window.

      1. right you would know that a kid from compton is less gangtser than a correctional officer from the burbs with a rich mommy

    63. “but were talking about catalogs of music. thats why when you look up an artists discography you will see a list of mixtapes”

A catelog of music referring to ACTUAL ALBUMS that were for sale somewhere, anywhere. Or… songs that charted. Mixtapes are usually free, and shouldn’t count, at least to me. If you think they do, that’s fine.
