As predicted, Kansas City, Missouri emcee Tech N9ne scored a Top 5 debut with his latest studio album, All 6’s & 7’s. The Strange Music release is Tech’s highest charting to date, selling over 55,000 first-week units. This project features a number of high-profile guests, including Yelawolf, B.o.B. and Lil Wayne.
Bruno Mars’ Doo-Wops & Holligans, now a platinum release, fell a mere three spots to #17. Mars has been an urban Pop sensation for Atlantic Records’ roster renovation and new-found success.
Twenty five years after releasing their first album, New York Hip Hop/Punk trio the Beastie Boys crossed the 200,000 mark with their eighth studio album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2. The EMI Records release, which dropped before Part One, features artists that Adrock, MCA and Mike D have influenced, including Nas and Santigold. The climbed a spot to #24.
While Chris Brown climbed a spot with F.A.M.E., Wiz Khalifa‘s major label debut Rolling Papers is headed towards gold status. The Rostrum/Atlantic Records release features Chevy Woods, Curren$y and Too Short.

Will Eminem and Royce Da 5’9’s Bad Meets Evil Hell 2: The Sequel project grab a #1? Stay tuned to HipHopDX.
lol self made is a flop
mmg is doin fine. that album has no major big name producers, features, or expensive videos. that selfmade album must not have cost anything to make. j cole was probably the most expensive feature and he dont cost much. so all that 90,000 in sales goes right into MMG’s pockets. and in addition to that the album is real street hip hop, not some pop/r&b hybrib. The hood doesnt run to the store to buy albums in the first week but they’ll have a steady selling album for the next couple months or so and they’ll be able to put together a tour with just the MMG members alone. thats no flop in my book.
you think all that $90 000 in sales goes into MMG pockets? wow you are trippin, ross dont own no label, its just a front, the white dudes in suits be taking all the money, believe that
They MMG is indie..so there numbers are good
Maybach is under Warner Bros, so they have WB money in both advertising and distribution.
Who the fuck bought Rollings Papers and Flockaveli? I swear to God it’s fucking pathetic to even listen to those ignorant artists.
” Uh uh… You kno what it is… ” Lol?
i gues you call it a flop cause it got ross name on it them numbers are good for that group album if it was a ross solo album yeah
weezy got your boy them numbers plus i seen his video on MTV2
wiz singles selling album not to much
waka-flop=
Gotta peep that Tech 9 album, Ross is fuckin wack!
self made is a flop???? i wouldve guessed that they wouldve pushed about 30-50k units.. im surprised they may reach 100k. i dont think thats a flop. ross = great beats, great rhymes, shi++y subject matter 95% of the time…
How many did the last G-Unit Album sell? How much would one sell now? Not to start a “whos better” debate, but whos crew would sell more right now. I think 50s might, but MMG had way to many Lex Luger beats. The boy makes a dope beat, but they all sound similar and get monotonous.
I bet the sales of Hell: The Sequel will be disappointing. Not so much for me, but for other people who are exptecting Royce to sell 500,000.
Wow how does tech sell so much? I dont think any underground rapper sells as much as him
Touring. He hits every small club in the country when he goes on tours. If all underground artists worked as hard as him they would be everywhere.
No Joell Ortiz, huh? Despite all the attention, internet armies still aren’t buying his (piece of shit) second album?
I’m surprised.
Give it up, you have been exposed, there must have happened some personal shit between him and you in the past.
bad meets evil is dope… never heard shady on those type of beats before best songs are welcome to hell and above the law
ross stay winning
How can you talk with all of Rick ross nut coming out of your mouth?
it’s pretty ridiculous that a shitty ass rapper like Wiz, who put out a shitty ass album can outsell Cudi. His fans even agree that the cd sucked. It just shows you how many dumbasses like bullshit now.
That CD was so weak. It’s like Joe Budden, maybe Wiz needs to be forgotten so as to force him into making heartfelt content. Otherwise he’s basically going to put out music and sound like Avril Lavigne for the next five years. When Joe Budden had 2 go underground his shit turned super dope.
agreed, i liked Kush and OJ, then his shit hit the mainstream and that’s when it started going sour. He’s over-saturating the market by being on everything, pretty soon people are going to be sick of his lame ass. He’s needs to disappear for a while and come back with good shit, but since he’s so successful because of his current stuff, he’s not going to go away until fans start realizing that he’s going to turn out to be the next Soulja Boy, who was never dope, but still he’s going that route. I want to say that he should go back to mixtapes but damn Cabin Fever sucked.
he sold out so he could not put the songs he did on his mixtapes let me tell you something that you maybe did not know, when you sell out and sign that contract where you are required to throw up the devils horn and the all seeing eye, they tell u what songs to make and how to dress and what to do with your hair and who to market the music to .see joe budden doesn’t have to do that because he chose not to sell out ,but on the other hand slaughterhouse is signed to shady so i expect them to make some gay popish songs too
self made is doin good numbers for a comp album looks like a new movment and wale and pill are both a problem dont sleep on them
much love to mmg and t9
These weak ass sells. haha
I’ve got a question that’s maybe been addressed previously, what constitute the sales figures? Physical album sales, digital album sales, digital single sales, or all all of they above? Thanks.
physical album sales and digital album sales.
digital single sales are separate, thats why you hear singles that go gold or go platinum.
The physical album sales are actually the amount of albums shipped and not actual cd sales. If stores dont sell all albums within a certain period of time they ship them back to the label or order more when they sell out of the stock they first ordered. So album sales can drop months down the road if the number of albums shipped doesnt sell sompletely.
Anonymous (above) is incorrect. Billboard placement and chart numbers are based on Soundscan, which is a POINT-OF-PURCHASE sales figure. Every CD sold with a barcode is included.
RIAA bases their certifications on CDs SHIPPED.
anyone else think its funny tech n9ne sold more albums then lloyd banks? nice job tech.
they gone say banks warm single went gold
because Lloyd banks is obviously the better rapper.
@sucks
haha no Tech is obviously better
YO YO PEOPLE WSUP WSUP FYI TO ALL YOU FUCKIN FRUITS OUT THERE.. IF WERE CURIOUS MR HIP HOP THE GREAT WHITE HOPE MR INTERSCOPE BEST RAP EVER IS APPROACHING 4 MILLION ALBUMS SOLD WITH RECOVERY SO ALL YOU BLOGGERS SAYING DIGITAL SALES ALBUM SALES NOBODY SELLS.. Now normally I am the type of person who accepts these figures as real and I staunchly defend them on this site every week.
But hold on a fucking minute – are we supposed to believe that there were 2,500 people who bought that Flockaveli shit last week?!?!?!
Really?!?!?!
its a garbage album from a corny rapper, and we’re supposed to believe that 2,500 people bought it 10 months after its release?
somethin aint right…
You forget that it’s party music purely…and nothing else.
I wunda how much tech9 puts in his pocket after expenses 1-5 dollas per CD sold? Not bad IMO
lol…tech n9nes almost beaten tyler the creator already!!!lol
your an idiot if you think thats an accomplishment.. Tyler The Creator is new, and put out something independently. Tech Nine has been rapping since 1999 and can only sell 50000? I applaud both of them beating the system but his fans are idiots.
I can see why people hate on tech his flows are in tunnel mode. He isn’t intricate with the flows as say someone like nas.
Tyler didn’t beat the system. He’s signed under XL, an INTERNATIONAL “independent” label (which only means it isn’t one of the “big 5”) with DEEP financial backing for advertising…it’s the same record label that Adele (the #1 this week whose sold millions of both her last two albums) is signed to. Couple that with the fact that he’s being managed by a former Interscope exec and had a few national appearances (Fallon, for example) and it’s no surprise he sold 55k. Given the “buzz” have expected more.
Tech, on the other hand, is half-owner at Strange and has had to spend the last 10 years building everything at his label from the ground up.
lmao blanks flopping ass
Props to Tech N9ne
I want Nas to Kill Kid Cudi. That nigga ruined hip hop with lame ass rhyme scheme and emo rock fetish. Fuck that suntan. Praise Nas, the true son of God.
Yes, Cudi ruined hiphop, it was Soulja Boy, Hurricane Chris, Wiz Khalifa, D4L, Shawty Lo, Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame…no somehow it was Cudi, educate yourself before you talk retard, now go bang your dick into a knife.
praise my dick u cunt FUCK NAS GUCCI GUCCI GUCCI KID CUDI THAT NIGGA
nobody ruined hip-hop if you dont like it you dont have to listen to it ,i hate one dimensional faggotz like you .so you bump nas when you rolling to the club fuck out of here
^cosign
I want Nas and Tech n9ne to do a song. Hopefully this success gets that to happen. Nas/Tech N9ne the best rappers in todays game.
waka stop buying your cd. you’re losing money doing that.
lol real talk
All Hail to the King of Rap Tech N9ne!!!
Meant to post this here…
I wish people would stop dismissing Tech’s success because other “indie” artists like Tyler the Creator sold the same amount in his first week. It’s an apples and oranges comparison.
Tyler signed to XL Records, an INTERNATIONAL “independent” label (which only means it isn’t one of the “big 5”) with DEEP financial backing for advertising…it’s the same record label that Adele (the #1 this week whose sold millions of both her last two albums) is signed to.
Wack
lets see tyler sell 55,000 thousand independently 10 years from now. yall niggas talking shit about tech are crazy, that boy worked his ass off and it paid off. tech getting more promo now, but he still had HALF the push tyler/odd future was/is getting. odd future is a success in their own right, but tech n9ne is literally the living example of how to WIN on an indy. especially in something as fickle as hip hop, tech still got fans from 10 years ago. niggas like sheek dropping albums on DEF JAM, selling 4 k first week. legends like redman, 10 k on DEF JAM. if you don’t see tech doing these numbers as a win, you’re not successful.
Dawg, you sound very young! Not trying to diss you but you do realize Luke, Eazy, hell even MC Hammer sold that much from their trunks back in the 80’s! That’s not successful! Sure he made a little money, like Eazy did, MC Hammer, Luke…but you don’t make BIG MONEY until you sell a lot of records and get a MAJOR distributor. Hey I am sure Tech is getting paid, but nothing like Scarface back in the Rappalot days! That was success! And if you were too young to know, you should look it up. Those brothers were making millions because that was when HIP HOP HAD PEOPLE THAT WOULD SUPPORT THE! These days these fake as niggas that think 50K is good numbers, are supporting hip hop. Those numbers are pathetic. Anyone that claims to be a real HIP HOP fan that doesn’t buy it, isn’t a fan!
As I keep saying, those numbers are pathetic, you can try to spin it anyway you want. I remember the DOC selling me more than Janet Jackson when he first came out, I remember NWA selling more than Paula Abdul…these cats can’t go 50K? Pathetic.
It’s Jewhop wether you like it or not!
Go Cudi!
