Hip Hop Album Sales: The Week Ending 10/23/2011

Emcee-turned-singer veteran Everlast and his just-released singer-songwriter album, Songs Of The Ungrateful Living was the lone new album to debut on the Top 200 of the charts, from a Rap artist – even though it’s not a Hip Hop album per se. Jay-Z & Kanye West are likely a week away from the 1,000,000 mark with Watch The Throne, giving each their latest platinum plaque.

Lil Wayne‘s Tha Carter IV climbed the three spots it lost last week, back to #6, still the only Hip Hop/Rap album in the Top 10. The platinum works features the likes of Tech N9ne, Andre 3000 and Nas, as the top-selling 2011 Hip Hop/Rap release.

Cole World: The Sideline Story by J. Cole sold over 20,000 fourth-week units. Backed by Sony Records, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation flagship held the #11 spot. Largely self-produced, the Fayetteville, North Carolina native’s album featured Drake and Missy Elliott, in addition to Jay.

Jay-Z & Kanye West’s Watch The Throne slipped three spots to #16. The Roc-A-Fella alumni’s first collaborative album features production contributions from 88-Keys, RZA and Lex Luger.

Jay’s wife Beyonce and her 4 climbed three to rejoin the Top 20. The pregnant Pop/R&B superstar’s fourth solo offering features an appearance by Outkast’s Andre 3000, along with production from Kanye West and his production team – including Jeff Bhasker, as well as a writing credit to former G.O.O.D. Music artist Consequence.

Dance/Pop/Rap group LMFAO’s sophomore album, Sorry For Party Rocking is headed towards 200,000 units sold. The Interscope Records group, co-founded by the iconic Motown Records’ Barry Gordy’s grandson, worked with will.i.am and Busta Rhymes on their latest album, which charted at #22, gaining eight spots.

In his second week on the charts, Aphilliates Music Group co-founder DJ Drama‘s latest work, Third Power held down a Top 100 spot. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who has been in Atlanta for over a decade released his third solo album, and first in over two years. Wiz Khalifa, J. Cole and Wale are among the guests on Mr. Thanksgiving’s first studio album since leaving Atlantic Records after two works with T.I.’s Grand Hustle subsidiary.

Drama’s E1 Entertainment label-mate Styles P held strong for a third week with Master of Ceremonies. The L.O.X./D-Block alum’s fourth studio album features production from Warren G, Ty Fyffe and Reefa, with Jadakiss and Sheek Louch appearing.

    6. Niggas better be worried bout that God Forgives I Don’t. Ross ready to drop the bomb on hip hop. Shit gon be another classic from Rozay. Port of Miami, Teflon Don, Deeper Than Rap, all classic albums niggas. Hate all you want!

      Bawse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      are u 12

HA HA HA HA HA HA

      1. real talk that album is going to be a classic. ross is going to do some amazing numbers and 50 cent is going to brick if he drops in december. 50 is just going to make excuses and not bring it until next then still flop.

      2. THAT ALBUM AINT GONNA DO SHIT ON THE CHARTS HE WILL GET HIS FIRST WEEK NUT OFF BUT THATS IT HE NEVER WENT PLATINUM AND HE WONT GO PLAT THIS TIME

    7. Wow, Lil Wayne still in the top ten after 2 months. I guess the haters were wrong talking about Birdman buying albums. I’m surprised after H.A.M., Otis and that other single, that WTT has taken over 3 months to get close to platinum. They have performed on almost every major music show and have been on a nationwide tour for 3 months already. J Cole has been tour with Drake, Jay Z, Rihanna and now WTT tour, but he hasn’t hit gold yet. Wtf?

      1. wtt been platinum if you rely on this site for your info then you are a sheep go to the main source which is the riaa.WTT HAS ONE OFFICIAL SINGLE AND THAT IS OTIS.WITH ALL THE SINGLES OFF THE CARTER 4 YOU WOULD THINK IT WOULD HAVE SOLD MORE.THE WTT TOUR STARTS IN 2 DAYS SO IDK WHAT TOUR YOU TALKIN ABOUT MISS INFO HAHAH

      2. dont worry man j.cole will go gold whether its toward the end of this year or in the early months of 2012 i mean he’s already this close at 328,000 copies so far so he’s doing good could have been better but good especially for a rookie mc all of yall who are supportin j.cole i’m glad you are cause he is a talented rap artist and has so much potential to be a even better rap artist in the years to come just keep supportin j.cole yall and continue to buy as many copies of his album as u can afford to allow him to reach gold status and eventually platinum status cause cole deserves it for two and a half years of hard work and dedication to be able to even release his debut album with all the odds against him barely no productions, no radio play for his singles, and not being hyped up or just thought of as underrated look at him now first album debut at number 1 and sold 218,000 copies in the first week he wasn’t predicted to sale even close to that much well the predictions were off yep j.cole is gettin paper and he’s already workin on his second album which he said he plans to release it in june 2012 i hope that date holds, j.cole is really on his grind right now keepin that roc nation ship a float continue to keep up the good work man cause it pays off one way or another

    8. First off these are ONLY USA sales…Lady GaGa is the #1 selling artist of 2011.she has sold now 2.5mil World Wide..

Beyonce is next..860k USA sales and another 900k Overseas. Then Weezy then Watch the Throne….. PLUS the singles that are charting on BILLBOARD. artist such as J.COLE,BIG SEAN,WIZ,LUPE,WALE they all did very well in this day and era…

    9. Look at all of these bootleg buying, torrent downloading stans talking about who they want to go gold or platinum! LOL!
