Hip Hop Album Sales: Nicki Minaj, Kid Ink, Ne-Yo

Nearly six weeks into 2015, the only Hip Hop album in the Top 10 of the Billboard Top 200 belongs to Nicki Minaj as she continues nursing her Pinkprint release with huge streaming numbers and a newly promoted single. Meanwhile, Kid Ink’s Full Speed debuted at #11 this week with just under 30,000 albums sold. Ne-Yo’s latest fell more than ten spots after debuting at #5 last week while J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive is still on the decline, landing at #19 most recently despite consistent sale numbers.

Lower down the list, Missy Elliott reemerged in the Top 40 thanks to a surprise Super Bowl halftime show appearance a couple weeks ago and Skizzy Mars climbs to #35 in the first week of his Red Balloon Project’s availability.

Nicki Minaj Eyes Gold Record Milestone

Nicki Minaj will almost certainly pass the Gold record milestone next week after selling another 20,000 units of The Pinkprint most recently. Nicki’s third album has now tallied 487,013 sales since its release in early December. After slipping a couple spots two weeks ago, Pinkprint is again at #8 despite a 2% sales drop.

    Kid Ink Debuts At #14

Kid Ink’s third album broke into the Top 20 this past week with Full Speed selling 28,547 units since its release last Tuesday (February 3). The star-studded tracklist helped Full Speed to more than 3 million streams and 65,379 single songs sales.

    J. Cole Falls To #19

While Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive fell another five spots due in part to a 10% sales drop, his latest album has now sold a total of 745,725 albums thanks to another 17,485 added most recently. 2014 Forest Hills Drive also got streamed nearly 7.5 million times in the same time period.

      1. How is Missy pop when all of her music is hip-hop and doesn’t sound pop? Besides, Nicki appeared with Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, Madonna, Skylar Grey, etc.

      1. YMCMB no longer exists. Rich Gang is here, consisting of Cash Money and the artists who were formely part of bitch wayne’s label.

      2. They have dozens of artist to help them. It’s actually good the ones that are disloyal are leaving since the loyal ones are staying.

      1. I don’t mean forever meaning he would live an eternity but his music will always be remembered by someone. Rae Sremmurd’s dope too. Them and mike will reinvented indie hiphop.

      2. It won’t. Kid Ink is done. Rae Sremmurd sucks, they both sound like little kids. They didn’t reinvent shit in hip-hop and neither did Mike Will.

      3. Rae Sremmurd? You mean that terrible rap duo behind the equally terrible, contradicting songs No Flex Zone (where they flex in spite of the title) and No Type (where they say they only like bad bitches after saying they don’t have a type). LOL those kids are a joke.

      4. Then they’re dumbasses. They didn’t reinvent hip-hop since what they’re doing isn’t anything new and Mike Will isn’t a leading producer. Also, Kriss Kross were actual kids, so it made sense for them to talk anout kid stuff. Rae Sremmurd, two grown ass men, sound like little bitches trying to imitate Kriss Kross.

      5. Is that why the metacritic score for their debut album stands at 80? Is that why they were all praised? Maybe its you thats the problem. Kris Kross sucked. Rae were are still about adult life.

      6. Metacritic is flawed and every review of that shitty Sremmlife album sucked. All they’re doing is make excuses for their incompetence of making music. It’s Rae Sremmurd who sucks since they can’t rap or make good music. At least Kriss Kross tries.

      7. And yet metacritic rightfully panned chris brown’s and 50’s latest albums. Again, its your refusal to move onto the new that’s the problem. That jump song from kris kross sounds like pop ass shit while no type is actually dope. It made the top 20 so its a hit as well.

      8. Move on to the new? No, Rae Sremmurd just suck, period. I have no problem with new rappers. Logic, Big KRIT, J Cole, Vince Staples, the entire TDE camp, Childish Gambino, etc., make better music. Jump doesn’t sound like pop shit, that’s wack ass No Type is, which will be Rae Sremmurd’s last hit. Rae Sremmurd are Kriss Kross wannabes.

      9. Your taste is ass backwards as all of those are pop. No type will always be a hit. No Flex made the top 40 as well. And the reason why they use the voices is because they want to sound distinct and memorable.

      10. None of the artists I named are pop, they’re all hip-hop artists. No Type and No Flex Zone will always be garbage. There’s nothing distinct or memorable about sounding prepubescent, so cut that crap.

    1. Fuck Nicki miflop j.Cole going platnuim by April y’all yelling over some gold all that promo she had getting naked and Cole comes out the blue and goes gold in two weeks vs her year long promo the gstring and million dollar videos can’t go gold

    2. None of the artists I named are pop, they’re all hip-hop artists. (No they are pop. Their music sounds like shit) No Type and No Flex Zone will always be garbage. (They will always be dope hits) There’s nothing distinct or memorable about sounding prepubescent, so cut that crap. (At least I’m able to tell who rae is, unlike TDE and Childish Gambino where they sound the same.) Oh and Lupe and Krit paid for those scores.

      1. (No they are pop. Their music sounds like shit) None of the artists I named are pop and their music doesn’t sound like shit, that’s Rae Sremmurd. (They will always be dope hits) No, they won’t. They will always be trash. (At least I’m able to tell who rae is, unlike TDE and Childish Gambino where they sound the same.) You can’t tell Rae Sremmurd apart since they sound the same unlike TDE and Childish Gambino, who are unique. (Oh and Lupe and Krit paid for those scores.) If anyone paid for their scores, it’s Rae Sremmurd since their music sucks.

      2. Rae Sremmurd’s music is trash. Hell, it’s not even music, it’s just jungle noise. Of course they paid for the scores and reviews.

      3. I like all kinds of music, old and new. Rae Sremmurd are just terrible and untalented. I’d rather listen to the Beatles than their shit. It’s you who’s bitter because I said that your current favorite rap duo sucks ass.

      4. 2015 and Lupe Fiasco and Joey Badass both have the best albums of the year so far and The Blacker The Berry is song of the year so far.

      5. You don’t even know me, so how would you know what I’m doing with my life. And I could care less about what Rae Sremmurd do, their music still sucks.

      1. You didn’t own shit. You got pissy when I said that Rae Sremmurd sucked after you brought them up. They would be dope if they focused on creating their own talent, put effort into their bars, and make some good music instead of yelling and screaming on the same club/trap garbage that dilutes the airwaves.

    3. I really like Nicki Manaj. I am really enjoying the Pink Print Album and not only can she rap but she can sing too. I think she has a very beautiful voice. Her album is getting me through some difficult times.

    4. I think it was great to go for something a little showy to remind the stylish NeYo Tuxedo at angeljackets’s store ready for everyone.
