Harriet Tubman To Replace Andrew Jackson On The $20 Bill

The way working Americans (and rappers alike) view and talk about their money is set to change forever.

There have been rumors for years of proposed amendments and alterations as to who graces the faces of United States currency and it appears that reality is coming into fruition.

The Washington Post reports that Harriet Tubman will replace Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill in upcoming iterations of the legal tender. According to NPR, Jackson’s likeness will still remain on the back of the printed money.

At any rate, Tubman will become the first African-American to ever be bestowed the honor.

“Today, I’m excited to announce that for the first time in more than a century, the front of our currency will feature the portrait of a woman, Harriet Tubman, on the $20 note,” Treasury Secretary Jack Lew told reporters of the Associated Press during a conference call earlier today (April 20).

Best known as the Civil War hero who ushered slaves in the Southern states to freedom through the secret safe haven network known as the Underground Railroad, Tubman’s usurping of the nation’s seventh president Jackson on the $20 bill comes with a bit of irony: he was actually a slaveholder himself.

Tubman’s placement will precede several other women and civil rights leaders who will be implemented onto the new currency designs. Woman suffrage freedom fighter Susan B. Anthony currently has a dollar coin with her image that was printed between 1979–1981 and 1999.

It was previously announced that a woman’s likeness would be replacing U.S. Founding Father Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill but then the Hip Hop-influenced Broadway play Hamilton begin to rake in several awards, including the 2016 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album, revitalizing the popularity of the first United States Secretary of the Treasury.

Following the Harriet Tubman news, several members of the Hip Hop community took to social media to voice their tempered opinions.

    6. How would u like your 100 dollar bill broken in all 20s? Im just saying. Aint got no 10s or 5s or 1s in the register.

    7. In my opinion putting the honorable Mrs Tubmans face on a bill is disgusting and humiliating…the dollar bill is made by whites and is the root of all evil..she now shares a common ground with slave owners, rapist, liars and oppressors..they also have they evil all seeing eye on the back..nothing is honorable o
about this and if I honestly don’t think she would approve of it..she was a real front line soilder

      1. Africa is a whole continent you retarded idiot; which country are you speaking of you ignorant piece of $hit?..

      3. theres been currency since the start of human civilization. key word being civil. ancient eqyptains used gold, silver ect.

      4. Actually your wrong sir..early African an civilizations didn’t use gold as money…they used it as goods for trade but never currency…get your knowledge up..Europeans began the trend and exploited Africa for its gold ans still is till this day…dum dum

      5. Africa exploits itself dipshit no ones telling them they have to sell there resources but they do and at the lowest price possible at that they can create sanctions and put ordinances in place but they dont because there desperate for any kind of boost in there economy so trust me the blame comes on them for refusing to say NO

    8. Regardless the point I’m trying to get across is that this is actually an insult to Ms Tubmans because she was a true warrior who risked her life and even took lives for our betterment and now she is on a bill, but so is Thomas Jefferson who was a slave owner, so is George Washington who was a rapist of slaves, and and so are many other oppressors of blacks…I don’t think she would be delighted by this change, …instead she would probably say don’t but me on a dollar give my people their just due of dollars that you have stole from them for generations

    9. Ummmmm before people celebrate, why is this important and what is it gonna to better our financial situations???

    10. Put it this way the rothschilds you kno that private entity that charges the u.s. more than a dollar to actually print and make the dollar is gonna put harriet tubman on the damn 20 dollar bill……fml n this planet

    11. Harriet will be on one side and Andrew on the other. Won’t take place til 2030. $20 dollar bills will be worthless or cease to exist by then.

    12. Reparations is an idea that won’t work. The US government SHOULD officially and publicly apologize for slavery though. But us black people need to build our own lives and communities and not wait for handouts. Stop depending on government to save you.
