Ghostface Killah Recruiting J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League For Next Wu-Tang Album

It seems that Ghostface Killah has started forming Voltron for the next Wu-Tang Clan album.

J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League producer Erik “Rook” Ortiz got the call from Ghostface about doing some production work on the future project last week, he confirmed with HipHopDX.

Ghostface told DX in June that he’d been given the keys to the Wu-Tang kingdom by RZA and that he’d be calling the shots on the next reunion album. At that point, he said it was too early to start work on the project, but the call to Rook signals that the wheels are now in motion for what would be the first group album since 2014’s A Better Tomorrow.

The Grammy-winning production team worked with Ghostface before on “Guest House” from the 2009 album Ghostdini: Wizard Of Poetry In Emerald City.

Rook says he doesn’t know of any timeframe for the new Wu-Tang release, but there will be a new taste of his work with a Wu-Tang member coming soon with the single from Raekwon’s forthcoming album, which is expected in 2017.

In addition to those, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League is also working on plenty of other high-profile projects, including N.O.R.E.’s double EP, where they’ll handle one half of the production while Pharrell provides the other half.

Rook also told DX he’s working on tracks for Ariana Grande, Gucci Mane, Kelly Rowland, Ty Dolla $ign and more.

Ghostface, meanwhile, hasn’t referenced the new project on social yet, instead getting into the holiday spirit with promotion for his ugly Christmas sweater.

    1. ghostface is a supreme beat chooser jack. I still want some of that grimey RZA shit too though…sorry…but I want to hear what these cats got in store! I’m sure it’s fire

    2. I don’t trust that the album will be good at all. “A better tomorrow” was a complete throw away album. I don’t see any reason to think it could even have a single song as good as anything from 36 chambers or wutang forever. I hope im wrong

    3. the biggest problem with the quality of wu music post 2005 has been due to RZA and his stubbornness to give wu fans what they been fielding for. I’m glad this is im Ghost’s hands cus RZA has dropped the ball too many times the past 10 years. No one has hurt the wu legacy more.

        1. I have all of Ghost’s albums (beside that Wizard of Poetry) and Justice didn’t do anything on them.
Plus, all the Justice stuff I heard so far was wack ass generic beats (like what they did with Rick Ross, etc.).

    4. don’t worry he will find the way to make this shit boring and monotone

    5. I want that wu tang shit. Ah yeah, again and again. I like the dark kung fu beats, hope they go back into that chamber.

    6. Some production from Madlib would be dope and true dedication from remaining Wu members are necessary. Not just emailing lyrics/songs and dudes dropping in to do a verse then bounce..But members actually and physically working together in a studio by pushing each other to deliver top notch lyrics and production. Wu albums have been boring lately in part because the pace is off. Either beats are too damn slow throughout or too fast to keep up with. We want a proper Wu album on some head knock shit!

      1. Hell no. Those would be horrible choices. With all due respect, Pete Rock and Alchemist’s beats wouldn’t mesh well with the Wu.

    7. I want to see the team win. I hope Ghost leads them to some high quality beats. Also they need to touch on some good subject matter lyrically. Please give us something better than 8 diagrams and ABT. Regardless its still Wu forever!

    8. RZA better not pull any bullshit and make himself available for this album. There’s a lot of work to do to fix the damage he’s caused over the last 6 years. They crew needs to go all in and work together to create the classic i know capable of.

    9. The Clan members still got it, lyrically. But they do need the right production to lay down their best stuff. Given Ghost’s track record, I’d say this is gonna be really good.

      1. 9th Wonder,Black Milk,Alchemist,Madlib,Kev Brown,Pete Rock,Lee Bannon,J Dilla,Scott Storch,MF DOOM,and Oh No…bitches!!

    10. this aint what u wanna hear, wu-tang are the greatest hiphop outfit hands down but it ent a lie that lot of these guys have lossed what they had in the 90s + its cuz they brought in outside producers like cilva ringz n it killed the atmosphere

    11. Wu tang went downhill after ODB was absent from the group. He had an energy that drove that bus. Once he left (jail, RIP), the group wasnt the same. Its been half assed efforts ever since.

    12. I was feeling those records from the iron fist soundtrack. 6 directions of boxing and rivers of blood were fire. Gimme that shit that get me hyped up.

    13. A Better Tomorrow wasn’t that bad. It was good, I really enjoyed the album the only wack songs on ABT been Mistaken Identity and Keep Watch. But far away from being a classic hip hop album.

    14. Any good producer but the Rza should produce the next album, unless is willing to take it back to the raw 90s wu sound but that’s not going to happen.

      1. Rza is more of Movie producer than a music producer now. He hasn’t dropped a hot beat in over a decade. Hate to say it but have zero faith in him musically.

    15. Remember when wu tang was nothing to F wit? Now u got geeky white dudes like skrelli saying he will slap Ghost, and skrelli still doin pod casts without scratch

      1. That’s not as much a reflection on the Wu as much as it is a commentary on the gay ass rap fans who now treat hip-hop like it’s wrestling. Worrying about who will smack you, who has the most money, and who can pull off the most outrageous publicity stunt. It’s brought all these talentless bums onto the scene with no skills, just a litany of scams and stunts. So now the artists who aren’t willing to make clowns out of themselves for ‘likes’ and ‘hits’, are left on the wayside. I don’t blame them. You have to draw a line somewhere.

    16. Here’s the problem….one of the best things about Wu in their hey day was that their music was unpredictable. You had to listen to it a couple times and let your brain absorb the sound because it was unorthodox, but it was dope. Then Rza got to a point where his beats were still unorthodox and unpredictable, but they weren’t as dope. Now, his beats aren’t unorthodox OR dope, they’re just weak, and you can’t tell him they’re not, because his ego is crazy. While JUSTICE League are capable of making dope beats, they’re not gonna be that unpredictable bizarre type sound we loved when the Wu was strong, and that was their edge over everyone else. Once you take away that edge, they’re pretty much pedestrian. They are mind blowing MCs any more, they have their moments, but let’s face it, they’ve fallen off a little bit lyrically, some more than others. What I don’t understand is why they can’t use Tru Master, or 4th Disciple to produce the album. They never fell off as producers, they just haven’t been utilized. With all that said, I hope they’re able to put something dope together, with REAL studio chemistry, not just 9 dudes emailing their verses and pasting them on tracks.

      1. Well, that isn’t gonna happen, which is why these rap dudes need to hang this shit up after a bit and just tour on past material. You just have life experiences that aren’t dope to hear from a 40 year old that were dope to hear from a hungry 20 year old’s perspective. It’s kind of a microcosm of what’s happened to the hip hop industry as a whole as it’s gotten more corporate and more cornballs with inauthentic backgrounds have gotten more exposure than the raw stories coming up back in the day.
