Fat Joe Says J. Cole Tainted His Legacy With Kendrick Lamar Apology

Fat Joe has suggested that J. Cole dinged his own legacy after apologizing to Kendrick Lamar.

The rapper sat down with the Jay Shetty Podcast for an episode that aired on Monday (July 29). He offered up his opinion on the way in which the Dreamville leader backing down in his rap battle with K. Dot affected his reputation.

Joe began: “I had one of the biggest, most dangerous beefs with 50 Cent, and I was sitting next to him at the game yesterday, having the best time in the world. We’re brothers. When you’re called out in Hip-Hop, you gotta respond. I’m a big fan of J. Cole, but it started from that.

“He probably saw that it could get real messy and real ugly and so he said, ‘Yo, you know this ain’t me I don’t want no parts of it.’ But, he definitely got a stripe off… They took a stripe off that because in Hip-Hop, when they call you out, you come out.”

Check out the clip below, which begins at about the 1:11:03 mark.

Fat Joe isn’t the only rapper who took issue with J. Cole’s apology.

Back in May, Kanye West took shots at J. Cole while discussing the issue.

Speaking with Justin Laboy on The Download podcast, Kanye branded Cole a “pussy” for backing down in his rap battle with K. Dot, which saw them trade shots on “Like That” and “7 Minute Drill.”

“Fuck all that pussy shit. Fuck all that shit, man. Because it’s like, that n-gga J. Cole went on tour with Drake. He knows what it is. It’s like, n-gga, you can’t run now,” Ye said, referencing Cole and Drizzy’s co-headlining Big As the What? Tour.

50 Cent also did not appear to be happy at the idea of another rapper backing down from a feud.

Alongside a screenshot of the North Carolina native’s comments, 50 wrote on Instagram: “WTF how I miss this, @realcoleworld call my phone right now!”

Other MCs, though, were on the “No Role Modelz” rapper’s side.

T.I. gave props to Cole, having said: “I feel he chose peace and tranquility. You gotta have thick skin and really be unfazed and unbothered. And we don’t know the temperament or the sensitivity of Cole’s dynamic. We’ve never seen Cole upset. We don’t know where that would take him.”

    1. In life you win some, you lose some. If that situation did not sit well with J. Cole, it was his choice to make. Whatever!

      1. To me they both lost. It was just lame goofy suckerpunches between two dudes that aint G’s and dont fuck with G’s in any way day to day, call it what you want, but theyre both pop. I wasnt impressed

      2. Let’s hear your raps and see if you can impress us… BTW, there’s already a hardcore band named Zeke, so your new rapper name is Puss-zeke.

      3. Boy stop, this was the first heavyweight bout we”ve had between top artists in the game in over 10 years.

      4. Artificial flavoring rap beef. WOAT shit of all time. People forcing themselves to struggle listen to those wack ass songs that came out of this shit because most of the rest of the music sucks too.

      5. Silent panther proving again he’s a jackass. It wasn’t about who was the best rapper. It was about a culture vulture pretending they’re hood vs someone who isn’t a dumbass thug but still grew up in the hood and saw real shit. Hip hop came from the struggle, that’s the root, it’s origin. You can’t have a clown who makes soft music and never struggled in their nice polite J3w1sh/family/school/neighborhood claim they’re the goat of the genre and talk shit about people who are not only better but probably got in the game because they had a message to spread or just plain wanted to get out of the hood. Drake never did anything for his hometown and he sure as shit never did anything for America other than help bastardize a genre we started and thrived in. This wasn’t about who’s the better rapper or makes better songs. This was a battle of a fraud ass nicca forced on us vs someone people actually like and respect for not only his music but for what he’s given back to both his hometown and the culture.

      6. @yo momma, the typical fan boy response “well, you aren’t a rich rapper, so your opinion is bogus!” Lol. OP is right. The beef is lame. Drake has always sucked. Kendrick sucks nowadays, used to be dope. Both make pop rap junk.

      1. For real. Everyone says 7 minute drill wasn’t hard so Cole can’t compete. Cole literally said in the song itself that he respects Kendrick and his heart wasn’t in it. How hard do yall expect him to go? The internet trying to force him to do something he doesn’t want to do for their entertainment. I’m glad he didn’t listen to the advice of random strangers that he’ll probably never even meet.

      2. We are called fans who without he wouldn’t be who is in the first place, he shouldn’t have listened to whoever got him to make a 7 min track, then release it and after it fell flat, he conveniently fell back. Then apologized. Seems like a sucker move on his part all around.

    2. It’s called being an adult. A lot of rappers could learn a thing or two. Over the years there’s been a few dead bodies. Too much pride and ego before civility.

    3. J. Cole did what Fat Joe doesn’t understand. He made that choice for inner peace. Cole is the only one that has to be at peace with his decision. If something doesn’t sit right with your spirit, fix it.

      1. It’s rap you don’t talk about being the top artist then run away from competition. It’s always a bad look. Go make yoga music or something hip hop ain’t about backing down. Hip hop came from the street, bravado n pride.

      2. It wasn’t about being the top artist. It was some wack ass I’ve secretly been hating your guts even though I’ve been smiling in your face in public shit that both of them were on. If one of them died today, all of the same people would be doing RIP posts like they were for Chino XL yesterday though despite all of the fuckery that went into Pac dissing him in 1996. It was ignorant shit. If you have real problems with somebody, you handle it on wax after you tried to handle it as men. This is not what happened with that shit, and then wack ass music came out of the thing from both ends. Not one decent song.

    4. They say Cole meditates a lot. I’m sure whenever Fat Joe tries to meditate he always thinks about BBQ pizza. Bahahaha

    5. Same people talking about legacies because he didn’t want to participate in the Minstrel Show were like I love Chino XL. Bro, that was my man. RIP. Fuck them and keep doing what you doing J. Cole. He’s the only one of those dudes still making good music, and he didn’t stoop down and get involved in that stupid shit.

    6. What does it say about hiphop, that the ones who rise and are the best are the ones who glorify the worst of us? Jcole has ruined his legacy by being a man and doing the decent thing? The Bible told us that what would is good would be seen as bad, and what is bad will be seen as bad. Cole did the right thing: 1 Peter 2:23-4: When he was insulted, he returned no insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten; instead, he handed himself over to the one who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

    7. Cole shouldn’t have backed out because all these years he’s been competing head to head with Kendrick for the top spot of their generation (lyrically). Drake was never a part of the best lyricist conversation but only competed with them sales wise. Regardless of what everyone thinks or prefers, it was always Kendrick or Cole but that’s not the case anymore…

    8. J. Cole will be 40 in January. He has a friendly relationship with Kendrick dating back since Section 80. I think he realized this isn’t a real beef between them, and acted like an adult. 50 Cent will be 50 next year and still acts like an immature jackass. Fat Joe recently came out and admitted he was a fake thug and lied in most of his shit. Let Cole do shit that he feels is good for him, and move the fuck on.

    9. A guy who doesn’t write his own bars shouldn’t be battling anyone.
