Joey Badass & XXXTENTACION Remix “Black Panther” Cut “King’s Dead”

After teasing a collaborative mixtape at the top of the year, Joey Bada$$ and XXXTENTACION are back with the first single off the project. Titled “King’s Dead (Freestyle),” the song takes on the beat from Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, Future and James Blake’s Black Panther track, “King’s Dead.”

During the course of the roughly two-minute remix, Joey takes the lead, X offers up the second verse and Joey sews it up at the end.

“At 17 I made six figures/ Immature young rich nigga/ About 21 I made a mil twice/ Your dreams, my real life/ I’m up early, you still asleep,” Joey spits.

Controversial rapper XXXTENTACION and Brooklyn MC Joey Bada$$ caused a stir over the weekend when they both teased a collaboration during their Instagram stories. Fans weren’t quite sure what to make of the possibility and struggled to determine whether it was a smart move for Joey considering X’s current legal troubles. Despite the mixed feelings, it’s happening.

On Monday morning (January 22), X’s publicist sent a simple message to HipHopDX that read “Confirmed,” officially making a Joey-X collaborative mixtape a reality.

The publicist added, “Tomorrow [January 23] is X’s bday, hoping he drops it then.”

Stay tuned for more details as they become available.

Polarizing artist XXXTENTACION is currently on house arrest but evidently that hasn’t stopped him from moving forward with his music. On Saturday (January 20), the “Look At Me!” rapper alluded he was working on a collaborative project with Brooklyn’s Joey Bada$$ during one of his Instagram stories.

“xxxtentacion x joey badass,” he wrote in white text. “collaboration tape.”

Joey, who just dropped the surprise single “King To A God” on Friday (January 19), appeared to back up X’s announcement with an Instagram post of his own. The Pro Era MC’s post consisted of a screenshot from X’s Instagram story that read, “xxxtentacion x joey badass. collaboration Tape. LETSGOOOOO @xxxtentacion.”

Hip Hop fans weren’t quite in agreement on whether this was a smart move on Joey’s part. X is currently embroiled in a slew of legal trouble stemming from his 2016 domestic violence case. Last month, he was arrested on 15 felony charges, including witness tampering.

Late Friday night (January 19), X shared a snippet of new music on Instagram but it’s unclear where the song will actually wind up. In another post from last month, the 19-year-old claimed he was putting out three albums in 2018.

Countless people took to Twitter to chime in on the possible Joey-X collaboration. From shock and anger to anticipation and excitement, the reactions were all over the place.

Check out some of them below.

    1. Joey Goodbooty slowly goes from the MF DOOM league to the Vanilla Ice. He changed his original flow to sound like a wack Fredro Star. He chenged his Native Tongues inpirated beats to radio friendly boom bap. He covers Prince intead of covering Q-Tip. Now it’s time to change a lil bit more cuz it’s all for the money. Fuck this guy.

      1. No, he expanded his sound to appeal to a wider audience in the streaming era, to push himself into new markets as revenue sources from music sales dwindle. Translation: He smartened up, just like Nas after Illmatic.

    2. It’s a lose-lose situation: XXXTentacion fans don’t want him to collab with old hasbeen and Joey’s oldheads don’t want him to collab with some mumble loser.

    3. This is what hip hop used to be . Diverse hip hop artists collaborating to expand hip hop. However if this collab was done for money and not done out of friendship and respect then it is bad for hip hop

      1. No its not, you idiots have heard the one song from X and think thats all his music. X is an emo as rapper than can actually rap, but hes smart enough to know that thats not what pays the bills. Have you even seen the video for ‘Look at me?’ that song is actually clickbait that is followed by a songs about whats happening with blacks and cops. Has Yachty ever talked political? GTFOH with your bullshit!

    4. Wtf is this bullshit?? These nougats are like chalk and cheese. If Joey goes ahead with this shit and bends over for a few bucks then he a bitch ass nougat.

        1. If the “Zionists” were half as effective as you claim Mossad would’ve done killed you already and the world would be better for it.

    5. People forget that Chance the Rapper did a whole project with Lil B. The fact that they worked with artists with way different styles didn’t affect their careers at all. I probably wouldn’t listen if this project got made, but it wouldn’t change my opinion of Joey either. Idk why people are getting so butt hurt over the possibility of a collaborative project.

    6. I wonder how many of you have even heard an album from Xxxtentacion lol writing him off because of ‘Look At me’ SMDH

      1. exactly. kid isn’t talentless just needs to actually rap more instead of that emo rap bullshit. and stop telling on tracks

      2. I heard the album bum, wasted 40 mins of my life. If he made songs longer than 1:30 – 2:00 I would take him more seriously. He’d still be terrible because only like 2 songs off the album were decent. But as soon as you get into it it’s over.

    7. Yore, there was no chance to see a collab between Talib Kweli and YingYang Twinz… Unfortunately things change -_____________-

    8. Damn Joey, please say this is an early (and bad) April Fools’ joke. You’re a great rapper and artist, but working with this cornball, that thinks he’s BETTER than Pac cause Pac didnt do rock music? FOH… Please cancel this horrible idea yesterday

    9. Damnnn..I love Joey but really? And I’m all for different types of artists collaborating but this loser? Even if he wasn’t garbage in a human form..his music is also trash in audio form. This is going to be a disaster.

    10. That triple gay x dude actually stops the song like he’s about to kill these dudes, and comes back and spits a verse that’s as bad as lil pimp or Kodak black. Joey was spitting though, hard to believe he’d collab with a bum like this. Who’s he lining up next, rainbow homo tekashi.

    11. This is why Steez offed himself, he knew Joey would sell his soul and work with bullshit artists and women beating pieces of shit.
