Add Fabolous to the list of New York Knick fans completely flabbergasted by team president Phil Jackson’s decision to use the fourth pick in the 2015 NBA Draft on Latvian forward Kristap Porzingis. The Brooklyn emcee shared his thoughts on the selection with HipHopDX’s Cherise Johnson during Roc Nation and Samsung’s private event during BET Awards Weekend.
“I didn’t really see it,” Fabolous said. “I don’t got a crystal ball or nothing, but that wasn’t the pick that I saw. I hear the Knicks have a different plan, but I thought they would grab one of the Duke or Kentucky kids—one of the young ballers and give the city a little bit more faith that it’s gonna be a change from last year. I think they traded Tim Hardaway, Jr. It’s a couple different moves. I don’t have the right understanding of it, but maybe they know something that I don’t know.”
Fabolous explained that players from Duke University and the University Of Kentucky are currently “influencing the NBA.”
“Those are the young stars on the come up,” he said. “They’re coming from teams that are really influencing the NBA when it comes to the next level of players. That’s why I thought they’d grab one of those guys and they went totally left like New York Knicks be doing.”
During an interview with ESPN, Phill Jackson said that the team’s priority was to find someone in the draft that was athletic and who could “make a real difference in the way we play.”
“This young man is an eye-opening athlete and player,” he said. “The risk is great but the reward is great, too.”
Along with Fabolous, DJ Mustard, Vic Mensa, Wale, Meek Mill, Casey Veggies were among those in attendance during Roc Nation and Samsung’s BET Weekend event. View images below:
fab does know that the duke and kentucky boys (towns and okafor) were picked right? maybe he met winslow from duke or cauley-stein from kentucky? either way that is still reaching at 4 considering Winslow plays the same position as melo and cauley-stein has some injury issues he never disclosed (potential character issues too given that news). sounds like he just wanted to sound like he knew wtf he was talking about by dropping the names of the two biggest programs in college basketball… fab also has to realize nobody from duke is running shit in the nba… I could go on for days but i will stop there
bruh chill the fuck out!!! this is fab (a rapper) not stephen a. smith (sports commentator)
the guy is gonna be trade bait after he does his backup performance, smdh how y’all don’t see this obvious chess move
i was just talking about how it sounds like fab has no idea what he was talking about. in fact per my comment below i actually said how picking one of those “duke or kentucky” dudes as fab put it was a dumb idea so yeah good comment there bruh
He’s sayin this just because guy is white. And who the fuck is he to question Knicks move?
