Fans of The Fast & the Furious film franchise were treated to some behind-the-scenes drama when (sometimes) singer/actor Tyrese Gibson went in on his co-star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in October. Gibson was infuriated that Johnson was working on a Fast & the Furious spin-off film based on Johnson’s character, Hobbs. But in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Johnson said he refused to be dragged into the “bullshit.”
“At the end of the day, the only thing I want to do is make a great movie for the fans,” Johnson explained. “I never ever get wrapped up in the sludge of the bullshit that can be connected at times to a franchise. So I never get dragged into it. I never respond to any of that.”
As part of Gibson’s original rant, he threatened to leave The Fast & the Furious family if Johnson was going to be involved, but Gibson eventually backpedaled and offered Johnson some form of an apology.
Bottom line, Johnson just wants to deliver solid work for The Fast & the Furious audience.
“It’s been a challenging process,” he said. “Because I feel like my intention from day one, when I first joined the cast, was to hopefully come in, have fun, and create a character that people will hopefully like and try to elevate the franchise.”
Despite Gibson’s disapproval, Hobbs & Shaw will be the first Fast & Furious spin-off, and is anticipated for a 2019 release in 2019. The Fast & the Furious 9 is expected to hit cinemas sometime in 2020. The eight installment of the franchise, The Fate of the Furious, was released in April.

I stopped watching after 2 Fast 2 Furious (second film). Have there been any rappers in the film series since? I think i remember seeing Ja Rule, Ludacris and Jin in those first two movies..

But trying to stop someone else’s progress because you ain’t getting yours is some sucker shit. Tyrese is a B-list actor/singer AT BEST who has been fortunate enough to land some large gigs. The Rock makes terrible fucking movies but was a megastar before he made his first film, and now he’s Hollywood’s top earner (him or Wahlberg at the moment). The rock actually has an interesting story. Cut from the Canadian football league – no money in his pockets. Turned to his dad to teach him everything he knew about wrestling – Finally broke into some wrestling gigs under the name Flex Kavanna – Worked hard on himself, became more likeable etc. Turned himself into one of the top wrestlers in the game. From there he broke into acting and he actually is one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood at the moment. He is by no means my favourite actor but his grind is respectable – Now you can see why he doesn’t want to throw stones or talk about petty BS as that would accomplish the exact opposite of what he’s accumulated in his career thus far – save the pettiness for the petty – he played this one accordingly
