The wait for Drake fans is finally over — Certified Lover Boy is here. The highly anticipated project and follow-up to 2018’s Scorpion arrived on Friday (September 2) at roughly 1 a.m. ET, packed with a healthy roster of high-profile guest appearances.
JAY-Z, Lil Wayne, Future, Travis Scott, Project Pat, Nigerian artist Tems, Kid Cudi, Rick Ross, Young Thug, Lil Baby, Ty Dolla $ign, Giveon and Lil Durk all made the final cut.
Of course, the features weren’t a total surprise. The illustrious Canadian rapper erected giant billboards all over North America (and one in Nigeria) teasing each collab on Wednesday (September 1).
For example, the billboard in Drake’s hometown of Toronto read, “Hey Toronto The Best Rapper Alive Signed Me In 2009 And Is On CLB,” while the one in Memphis said, “Hey Memphis Yebba and Project Pat Are On CLB.” For New York City, the billboard teased “The GOAT,” which was obviously JAY-Z.
But the Certified Lover Boy billboard set up in Houston left room for interpretation. “Hey Houston The Hometown Hero Is On CLB,” leading many to wonder if the OVO team was referring to Travis Scott or Beyoncé, who both hail from the Texas metropolis. (Of course, it turned out to be Travis Scott.)
Clocking in at 21 tracks, CLB isn’t as packed as Scorpion (which contained 25), but it’s still six tracks shorter than Kanye West’s Donda.
The album was originally expected to drop in January but was pushed back after Drake’s leg injury. Over eight months later, the 34-year-old finally revealed Certified Lover Boy‘s release date during an episode of ESPN’s SportsCenter last week, with someone holding a sign that read, “CLB September 3.”

Album is pretty bland. I ended up skipping most songs. Just shitty background sex music.
That’s because you ain’t tapping none, bro.
Hahaha…u killed m e
YES ‘YO MAMA-JOKES’ HOW FUCKIN ORIGINAL…
That’s not what your mom said last night.
Thoughts n prayers. He will be missed.
Album is straight fire
straight trash haha drake fell off a long time ago. same with kanye. both garbage
Better than kayne album for sure, production 2nd to none. But I still can’t still can’t listen to Drake like that, I listen to most of this album to know it’s sounds decent, but I can’t take him serious. He’s a character created by the industry. And we he starts talking about how people turn they backs on him and coming from the bottom and just doesn’t sound authentic coming from him. If I want to listen to a light skin dude vent about relationships I’m gonna go listen to Joe Budden.
21 tracks and an hour and a half long?! WTF is.it.with these rappers egos, they cant edit themselves down, even before i listen i know theres going to he a ton of filler on here. I miss when Kanye said an album didnt need to heore than 7 songs long and Daytona more than proved that.
But the rest of those 7 track albums were trash
I disagree, though that isn’t the point. The point is an album doesn’t have to be bloated with songs and features to be good. Plus I’ve just listened to CLB and od course, too many songs just sound the same, half could have been cut out.

Probably says a lot about hip hop music these days when guys like Drake or Kanye, both mediocre rappers AND singers(who both don’t even write their own stuff), are the best selling and most talked about artists. With stanbases that outshine even the toughest EM-stans.
I never really got the Drake hype anyway. I mean I get why he is popular, when we talk about pop music and I don’t even hate on that. What surprises me is that his music seems to be so important to hip hop fans in general.
The Kanye situation is kinda worse. I still give him a lot of credit for his first few albums and he still brings some really strong tracks here and there but people need to get down to earth again. People even call the Donda Intro some kind of deeper masterpiece. Even if Kanye would do a track where you only hear him eating his food, some people would still call it track of the year.
Whatever..it is what it is.
This is nothing new, mainstream artists music will always push numbers, whether its good material or awful. They could wipe their asses and the used toilet paper would sell like hotcakes.
Yeah, what you say is true. I don’t know how to say this without sounding like an grumpy old head. Iam kinda old bu
That went kinda wrong..?..ok again:
Yeah, what you say is true. I don’t know how to say this without sounding like a grumpy old head. Iam kinda old but always kept an open mind. I just don’t get why hip hop fans, that have a taste that goes only a bit further than what’s on TV, still show so much interest in Kanye and Drake. Like I said, both mediocre rappers and singers, with nothing special to say most of the time(although that is kinda subjective). At least we can still say that Kanye produces his own stuff. Again, I get their appeal in the pop world, but at this point I don’t understand why hip hop fans talk about them so much. Drake gives me zero and the days when Kanye actually was kinda valuable for my hip hop world are long gone. Well, I know that all sounds wrong, but I can’t explain it any better.
I’m liking this album so far. This is the type of ish I look for in rap…SOUL SAMPLES and actual MELODY. The only albums that had this were Nas’ album and this. Kanye used to be the master of this sound but he abandoned his early style for hollow modern sounding beats with too much bass. Hopefully this inspires Kanye to get his ish together. I’m not impressed
This album is just one big meme. Wtf is this trash Drake gtfoh!!
Listened through the whole album and paid close attention. Theres 2 songs on there thats above average. One is Love All but thats because Jay is spazzing on that verse. Way doper than the verse he game Kanye. 2nd song I liked was No Friends In the Industry. But tbh I only like it because Im hoping Pusha T takes offencs to it and decides to bury Drake again. Lol
Album of the Year. Classic from top to bottom. I don’t see anyone topping this even Kendrick Lamar
I’m not feeling this nor the Kanye album K dot wtf you at smh… Nas KDII way better than both
Lies. I love Nas, I liked KD 1 and 2, but the production is so basic. Good for a track or 2, but when the majority sounds the same it is tough to listen again no matter how hard the bars are. Haven’t heard any CLB yet, but Donda washes KD2
I’m half way through and it’s kinda dry to be honest Drake has been sounding the same forever …I don’t see any real growth from Drake to be honest all his albums sounds similar to this still living like a 21 year bachelor nun wrong with it but we heard it before..None of Ye albums sound alike he keeps evolving off the foundational sound he started with. I can’t really compare the two but as many said if you want generic Drake is your guy but if you want an artistic musical experience then Ye is your man.
I’m done typing, you just said my mind
Papi’s Home, Love All, The Remorse are listenable tracks. You Only Live Twice, 7 am On Bridle Path, Champagne Poetry are good tracks. The rest are as wack as everything on that Kanye nonsense (except for the 2 LOX/ Jay Elec assisted tracks). I don’t know what artists are doing nowadays. Whatever it is it’s neither hip hop nor music.
Better that Donda for sure. But that doesn’t take alot.
Big artists released overhyped trash music. No one was better than Isaiah Rashad, but let’s not get into in.
Drake sounds the saaaaaame bro. same sorry topics with some fire one-liners here and there. But thanks to ashy-booty Donda this Drake album is refreshing.
Diddy dropping Off The Grid vol. 1 soon
Diddy more trash than Drake’s worst album.
Easily his best album since NTWS, the only other album of his I fuck with. He could never get that youthful energy he had back then again, but this is the talented rapper that’s in there despite all of the other bullshit directions he goes for spins. When he taps in with those soul roots and Houston sound, he’s at his best, ironically true for most rappers but the dummies don’t understand this. When he gets introspective in combination with the soul on like on the last track “Remorse,” I think that’s when he shines brightest.
Also, the people saying his music sounds the same are the same people saying I wish such and such still sounded like X as they dis them for falling off. You know a Drake song when it comes on, which is the best compliment you can give an artist. That’s like I know a Prince song when it plays even before he sings. That’s actually not a bad thing.
Word!
Wayne been going crazy. He smashed that verse. champagne poetry, papis home, love all, fair trade, way 2 sexy (thug kills), TSU, No friends, you only live twice are good songs. Rest are meh. Still this slaps better than donda.
The worst thing about this album is the cover art. But overall, a decent offering from Drake.
Not hate but I gotta be real…All these songs sound the same. Drake will never step outside his comfort zone he’ll always give you the same album every time.
Beta males, rejoice! Your hero is back!
Still not a fan of Drake. Can’t stand his voice to begin with, so listening to an album of it just does not work. No thank you.
I agree; Drake will never stop! Shout to the certified lover boy!
Jau gave Drake a better verse than his mans and em…
Drake is a true #certifiedloverboy!
Donda slaps CLB. This album puts his biggest fans to sleep (we see you Ak). Drake is one of the biggest artists ever (still unsure why), however he has yet to make an album better than College Dropout, Late Registration, Graduation, 808, mbdtf, wtt, yeezus, pablo or Donda. I think Jesus is King might beat out Drake’s best offering track for track. He isn’t in the same league musically as Kanye and this album highlights everything I dislike about him. Solid bars at times when he decides to rap but the boring and below average singing are such a waste of time. A cpl songs worth listening to but overall it’s a snoozefest.
