Drake has once again proven his dominance by cleaning up in the rap categories at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards.

The 37-year-old Canadian was nominated for a total of 14 awards at the ceremony and came home with five wins, sweeping the rap categories.

Drake won Top Rap Artist, beating out frequent collaborators 21 Savage and Lil Baby, as well as Travis Scott and Metro Boomin. He also won Top Male Rap Artist ahead of 21 Savage and Travis Scott.

On the back of his record-breaking It’s All a Blur Tour, Drizzy also won Top Rap Touring Artist ahead of 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa.

Drake also took home Top Rap Album for his collaborative project Her Loss with 21 Savage. The other nominees were I Never Liked You by Future, It’s Only Me by Lil Baby, Heroes & Villains by Metro Boomin and Utopia by Travis Scott.

The rapper’s final win of the night came for Top Rap Song, again for a 21 Savage collaboration with “Rich Flex.” The song beat out “Players” by Coi Leray, “FukUMean” by Gunna, “All My Life” by Lil Durk and J. Cole, and “Favorite Song” by Toosii.

The OVO Sound boss did miss out on the two top prizes of the night, though, losing out on Top Artist to Taylor Swift and Top Male Artist to controversial country music star Morgan Wallen.

Despite missing out on the biggest prizes, Drake is now tied with Taylor Swift for most Billboard Music Award wins in history, with both artists on 39.

It was also a big night for Nicki Minaj, who won Top Female Rap Artist for the first time. She had previously won Top Rap Artist in 2013 before the gendered categories were introduced in 2018.

In her acceptance speech, Nicki thanked her fans by saying: “Thank you to the Billboard Music Awards for presenting me with the best female rap award of 2023. Barbz, you are amazing. I appreciate you so much.”

The Queens, New York native also teased her upcoming fifth album: “I can’t wait to share Pink Friday 2 on my birthday, December 8th.”

Pink Friday 2 is Nicki Minaj’s first album in five years and features the chart-topping hit “Super Freaky Girl,” which made her the first female rapper to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100 in the 21st century.
