Dr. Dre Returns To The Studio With A ‘Detox’ Album Update Following Brain Aneurysm

Dr. Dre was released from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Friday (January 15) after suffering a reported brain aneurysm. Now back at home, the legendary producer is reportedly on around-the-clock medical supervision until doctors can determine what caused the brain bleed. But evidently, that’s not stopping him from working.

On Saturday (January 16), producer Dem Jointz shared an Instagram photo of Dre, The D.O.C. and several others posted up in front of a mixing board. While that’s not necessarily anything too out of the ordinary, it’s the caption that caught fans’ attention.

“And we back!” Dem wrote in the caption. “#Detox21.”

Detox, of course, is the long awaited, nearly mythical studio album Dre announced in 2002 that was reportedly delayed so he could work on projects for 50 Cent, Eminem and The Game.. In 2015, the Hip Hop mogul claimed he’d officially scrapped the project after working on the album for over a decade and instead, gave Dre fans Compton: A Soundtrack By Dr. Dre.

In an August 2020 interview with VladTV, Akon spoke about the Detox sessions and insinuated Dre’s perfectionism is what’s keeping the project from seeing the light of day.

“I don’t think [Dre] understands his power sometimes,” he said at the time. “I don’t think that — I think he’s gonna win no matter what because he’s Dre! Just drop that bitch! Like he got bangers though. I know for a fact I did a couple of bangers that the world probably will never hear. But man, from what I did hear when we were working together and I was submitting records for ’em, man, they got so much heat. But he’s just a perfectionist — too perfect.”

But Dem’s caption suggests Detox still has a future. This wouldn’t be the first time the Aftermath Records affiliate blew the lid off something that was likely under wraps. Last month, he posted an Instagram photo featuring all of the albums he worked on in 2020, which included the cover art for Eminem’s Music To Be Murdered By: Side B, inadvertently confirming a deluxe album did exist. Up to that point, it had all been based on speculation.

Dre is in the middle of a contentious divorce with his wife of 24 years Nicole Young. He recently agreed to pay her a one-time amount of $2 million in temporary spousal support from his hospital bed.

    1. glad to see him leave the hospital. I got fam that suffered the same but never woke up again. Dem joints, glad your excited to have him back in the lab, but let the man rest. And please, enough with the detox trolling. If he puts out an album, he puts out an album, there’s no need to try and generate enthusiasm for an endless project.

      1. Everyone keeps talking detox this detox that. Talking bout an album we wish for, but nobody be discussing his Compton album that shizit was fire. Give it a listen people bet some songs on that might of been for detox. Song 9 and 10 together are straight sick fire and I think its track 15 with em is too.

    2. If Nicole gets the estate, we’ll hear all of that shit. She’ll sell it to somebody to bastardize his legacy like they have every artist in the history of time.

    3. fake news.. we all know this was a media publicity stunt… i’ve never heard of someone his age surviving an aneurysm smh

    4. That’s a damn shame, she couldnt even let the man heal from a brain aneurysm over some money, that’s pure greed right there.

    5. Dam, I feared this would happen after the aneurysm. His brain reset and he thinks it’s 2005 again. Dam, so sad.

    6. How about leave the man alone, ,let him heal??❤ as far as the fake news about a aneurysm my mom had five she busted right through all different times like a rockstar !!! Much love to DRE??????????????

    7. On to Detox and perfect timing since Snoop and Ems beef is squashed nothing like music to help a man heal from divorce a financial blow and much needed soothing of brain Hell Yeah time for a much anticipated AFTERMATH !!!

    8. I had the privilege to hear a song or too on the Detox album the world may never hear. I’ve been classically trained since age 5 and I’m 48 now. I have never heard music like that on this planet ever! It’s beyond any words you can think to describe it. He’s not human.

    9. This might sound awful and very bad but maybe if he’d pass away then the detox album would no doubt come out….

    10. Maybe won’t be released until after the divorce is finalised. I would hate to release an Album I worked on for 20 years and have the profits milked by my x
