Danny Brown is finally in album rollout mode. On Thursday (September 5), the Detroit-bred rapper dropped the first taste of the project in the form of “Dirty Laundry,” which comes from his forthcoming uknowhatimsayin¿ album.
The project is executive produced by Q-Tip, marking the first time the A Tribe Called Quest MC has executive produced an album for another artist since Mobb Deep’s The Infamous.
“There was no room for error,” Brown said in a press release. “Q-Tip wanted me to go back to that ‘Greatest Rapper Ever’ era. I almost had to relearn how to rap again, an ego death type thing. He gave me this whole new outlook on music. I can’t go back to how I was before.”
uknowhatimsayin¿ serves as the follow-up to 2016’s Atrocity Exhibition.
Additional production comes from Paul White, JPEGMAFIA, Flying Lotus and Standing on the Corner. Guests include Run The Jewels, Obongjayar, JPEGMAFIA and Blood Orange.
The album is expected to arrive on October 4. Pre-orders are available here.

Danny Brown is rap game Richard Pryor. He’s able to mix pain and humor in a similar way and make it dope.
I didn’t know Q-tip executive produced Mobb Deep’s best album. That’s a combo I would not expect. We’ll see how this one turns out, I wrote DB off after “old” was was pleasantly surprised with how good “Atrocity exhibition” was. Not really feeling the producer lineup, but I’ll suspend judgement until I hear it.
Q-Tip also helped Mobb Deep sign to Loud Records. And you can hear the Q-Tip influence in some of Hav’s beats on that album.
I am.gonna check it … I know it will be better than that bullshit post malone is dropping…
Atrocity Exhibition dropped late 2016.
Yes! Danny and The Abstract working together on the same record was kinda unexpected but I can already tell it’ll be terrific off this single alone. Might dethrone IGOR for AOTY maybe…
Not hating but how is IGOR you current AOTY? Albums like Bandana, Plugs I Met and Retropolitan are on a different level on pretty much all aspects of hip-hop.
Aside from Bandana I haven’t heard the others though Bandana is my second most favorite this year… well third now cause Danny and Q Tip came through with straight fire this time around (not saying Bandana isn’t fire but it just wasn’t as intresting as Igor and uknowhatimsayin¿) and as for Igor the more dark pop influenced production and the story to go with it just makes it that interesting of an album. Though I do think Flower Boy is better than Igor cause FB was straight bars while Igor had singing that should’ve been handed by pretty much every one of the back up singers he had on the album (the singing only worked for me on Earfquake and Are We Still Friends) but that’s just my taste and I’m happy with it.
OBONGJAYAR! YES!
On my second listen….. Danny always make you dig for the meaning. But the real question is: WHO IS HE TALKING ABOUT ON “THEME SONG”??? #DLA, btw…. Dexter Down, NFL 313
Even b4 listening u noe its gon be lit
Facts
My God… from the tearjerking lyrics on songs like the title track and Shine to the refreshing production from the legend Q Tip, Flying Lotus, and everyone else involved… I cannot thank Kamaal and Danny enough for blessing us with this project…
Listened to this twice, fantastic album even better than I thought. Q-Tip, JEPG and the other producers helped make this one of the best albums of the year!!
