While appearing on MTV’s “RapFix Live” this week, Dame Dash spoke on fellow Roc-A-Fella Records founder Kareem “Biggs” Burke and the lack of support Burke has received from friends and associates, while in prison.
During his conversation on Burke, Dame was asked if he was referring to Jay Z with his comments about those who haven’t been there for Burke. He revealed that it isn’t Jay who he has an issue with and if he did, he says he would speak to the Brooklyn rapper directly.
“He’s doing time,” Dame said when asked about Burke. “And he’s doing it like a gentleman. I’m not too satisfied with the support of other people that he’s looked out for over the years. I’m not happy with that. It doesn’t matter what people think. I just project it. I don’t project for that. I just project. Like if the shoe fits it has to be worn. If I have an issue with Jay I’ll step to Jay about it. You know what I’m saying? But my point is overall it ain’t Jay. It’s a lot of people that I’ve seen him look out for that are expecting him to ask for help. And he’s not gonna ask for it. He gon’ do his time like a man. He’s not gon’ tell on nobody. And he’s not gonna complain.
“We talk every day,” he added. “Send pictures. I’m just really disappointed in the core of people. You know? I really saw him bid for people. I seen him help people through really rough times. And those same exact people are not stepping up. They’re expecting him to ask. And I just don’t think that’s alright. Anybody that’s doing alright that Biggs helped, if they’re not volunteering to look out for him then they’re dark. And that’s evil. And that’s foul.”
Dame also informed fans of where they can buy “Free Biggs” t-shirts, which Burke will see the proceeds from, before commenting on the lack of friendship he’s witnessed.
“It’s just respect. I watched him help people when he didn’t have to. And those same people ain’t reaching back. And they should be ashamed of they self…We grew up and it was about friendship. And I’m not seeing everybody doing that,” Dame said.
Burke was sentenced to five years in prison after the Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder was caught in a drug sting. In addition to the five year sentence, he was also forced to give up his home, his BMW, and $15,000 in cash.
