Consequence Recalls Ghostface Killah & Wish Bone’s Brawl At Def Jam’s Holiday Party

Consequence narrates what went down during the infamous Def Jam Holiday Party brawl in 1996, with Complex.

During this time tensions were high between West Coast and East Coast Hip Hop artists, partially because of Bad Boy Entertainment’s ongoing feud with Death Row.

As Wish Bone of Bone thugs-n-harmony was being escorted through what was then 90s NYC hot spot Mirage before it was Terminal 5, Ghostface Killah saw him and asked him what he was doing there, presumably because Bone thugs-n-harmony was signed to Eazy-E’s label Ruthless Records.

Tony Starks then throws a champagne bottle with an attempt to hit Wish Bone and misses. The bottle consequently hits a guy from Consequence’s crew.

“So now it’s a melee,” Cons says. “Bottles everywhere. It’s crazy in there. So Tribe’s manager [Chris] Lighty go get my guy to take him to the hospital because he’s cut pretty bad. He’s just bleeding everywhere.”

Consequence says once they’re in the car on the way to the hospital he spots Ghostface taking off his outfit and putting on a ninja suit with three other guys.

“After that they went their way and we went to hospital,” the Bronx, NY rapper continues. “That’s my Ghostface story. I really seen him do some shit in the streets that’s way past anything that’s said on social media. Like, he really is about that Wu-Tang life.”

Consequence detailing Def Jam’s 1996 Holiday Party brawl is as follows:

    1. I like how all these “Young” fans think they no things about ‘WU”. Most of them are just butt hurt Action Bronson stans.

      1. Most people outside of New York just didnt fuck with wu for the most part because that had that NY mindstate, look how
ghost hated on bone thinking they were from west coast, ghost is a dumbass

    2. Wish Bone of all people? And Ghostface putting on a Ninja suit to go fuck people up? lmao This is so random and hilarious.

      1. No, fuck this comment. Pick a side, motherfucker! Everyone is doing it! I’m gonna go with Bone Thugs because that’s what a majority of people are choosing.

    3. Bone thugs is way more legendary than wu tang I got respect for both but wu tang fans below are just butt hurt.
wu never really had classic like bone thugs

      1. Another delusional wu fan I see you guys funny. I got respect for wu but they are done. Bone thug still out here killing it.
Youtube Bone thugs in Australia 2015, they sold out the same Arena Taylor swift was in 2 weeks before. Yall better google that 1998 American music awards and see who won best rap artist of the year wu tang lost yall niggas lost get over Bone thugs wom

    4. This is one of the main reason why hip hop heads outside of New york didnt like artist from New york,
they were pissed at Wish Bone really, just because you thought he was west coast? on top of of it Eazy had just
passed away. If the shoe would have been on the other foot if ghost would have came to cleveland or LA bone
would have shown them love prob would have smoked all their weed lol but def would have showed the wu love.

    5. Ghost should have been more pissed at dpg they were at the same party that night, dpg was most likely the ones pulling that west coast shit, and Bone had beef with dpg. Ghost face was misinformed that night. But biggie and terror squad and mo thugs had wish bone back that night

    6. Think about the ignorance of that situation Ghostface gets pissed because he thinks bone thugs are from the west coast. Bone was never on no east coast vs west coast shit Eazy e wasnt on that either. Honestly that just sounds like jealousy from ghostface, Bone getting love and taking care of in your city and you dont like it. Ive heard this story before another aspect to this story is Dog pound was at that same party and they were beefing with bone thugs too, so ghostface was off on this. Biggie was also at this party from the stories Ive heard it was bone thug, junior mafia, terror squad vs wu tang vs dogg pound. All started by a misunderstanding from one wu member. Also have heard stories of meth being pissed at ghost for this situation. The ending to this story is that next year Bone, wu tang, and p diddy were up for best rap artist at American Music Awards and Bone Thugs won you can atcually see it on youtube.

    7. Ghost face hating on Bone thugs n harmony ghostface seems like a hater hes always angry typical of a new york rapper hating when somebody else is coming up

      1. Bone had love from the streets of new york they didnt get industry love from new york, but pun and the terror squad and bone thugs were really tight they were also tight with biggie and junior mafia, bone mananger at the time was steve lobel and he is from queens.

      1. HAHAHA yea I think wish would have damage ghostface too funny thing about this if ghostface would have down this
in Cleveland no way he makes it out like wish did

      2. Are you dusted?

Ghost and WTC is some shaolin ninjas foreal like these nigggas bust they guns and know wild monk levels of karate you don’t fucking want drama with the Wu, plus they legit mafia connected. I doubt it sonny

    8. Always felt like wu tang hated on Btnh on the low especially after Bone beat out wu tang at the american music awards.

    9. Nobody outside of NY fuck with ghostface and wutang rap fans in the south, midwest and westcoast thought theu
were wack AF. Fans in NY hated bone thugs until notorious thugs, but they always got shown
a lot of love in the midwest, south and westcoast

      1. Wu Tang Clan is a classic rap crew in every sense. Distinguished members, album sales, street cred, respect from a musical standpoint. Wu changed the game. Bone capitalized off of Eazy E’s success. If Bone thugs don’t exist, the world keeps spinning the same. Bone was way overrated even back in 96. I hate that sing-song crap anyway. It’s cuz they can’t rhyme well that they have to resort to lullaby raps. Wu vs Bone isn’t even a discussion. conversation over.

      2. You do know Bone thugs won best rap artist at the american music awards in 98 over wu tang right. Bone sold more records, got more hits. Nobody cares about street cred, and if you do Flesh n bone did 10 years in a California jail hes now out and touring with bone you cant beat that homie.

      3. Wu tang is dope but your wrong bone thugs n harmony change the rap game they had a bigger impact than wu tang. Wu tang was a great rap group with good lyrical ability but their beats were terrible. Btnh came in the game would a fresh unique style the music industry never seen before and hasnt seen since. Im a outkast fan myself and I think bone and wu were pretty good but i would give the edge to Btnh

      4. ur smoking crack. wu-tang is univerally appreciated all over the world in all types of different enclaves. The south didnt get it? big deal. back then, southern hiphop was about as important as australian hiphop. smh

    10. Not a fan of either group but if I had to pick I would say Bone. Wu tang seems like the type
of guys that always trying to tell people whats real hip hop and whats not, Bone just seem like
some cats they would roll up with there fans smoke out and chill

    11. I wanna know how accurate this story is I know it actually happened
but i wanna know details I dont see ghostface getting in wish bones face
and wish not knocking his ass out or at least take a swing at him

    12. I’m from Nashville and the Wu was always welcome here. LA the Darkman (when he was down win Wu) went to school at TSU. Raekwon and Method Man used to come down here often to chill. They invited Young Buck on stage to perform Cream with them. Oh…. Killah Army is from Ohio, so they had members in Ohio as well. And ask Mase about Ghost, he gave him that work back in the day too. At one point they were gonna stab Biggie. I am glad they chilled out with all of the foolishness.

      1. Appreciate that! I’m going to check it out that video. I remember Tommy Wright III and Kingpin Skinny Pimp (local Memphis rappers) dissing them too. Eazy E didn’t care where an artist was from. He signed cats from Nashville and Memphis. Wu used to always get into static. They almost got ambushed in a club in Houston when they first came out because of RZA hitting someone with a bottle. I remember my man telling me that Method pulled out a wad of cash and offered it to some females in the audience to beat up his girl after she pulled his hat off his head. SMH, I’m glad those days in hip-hop are over…

      2. I know Wish isn’t Mase hahaha. Bone Thugs were real dudes too!! Flex stayed in and out of jail. Ghost and Raekwon had that “I don’t care if I see tomorrow attitude.” Dude was rocking a mask when he first came out because he was wanted for robbery. Bone also had beef with 36 Mafia and Crucial Conflict, Do or Die, and Chicago. They had to be careful when they went to Memphis and to Chicago. I’m glad no blood was shed over it.

      3. Yea true, this was a huge misunderstanding by ghost though bone wasnt on that east coast vs west coast bs. Bone thugs were there kicking it with biggie, junior mafia and terror squad. A lot of bone thugs beefs came from misunderstandings. Ghost did this not even realizing that bone was beefing with dpg/deathrow who were at this same event. Yea Bone def had to be on guard because people were kinda coming at them for no reason especially the Chicago rappers. Bone thugs issue with Memphis is actually deeper than what most people realize, Eazy E sign a group from Memphis the same time he sign bone. Eazy put this Memphis group and Bone thugs in one studio and bone beat the memphis cats up Lil eazy e talks about it in a interview with steve lobel you can youtube it.

    13. Bone thugs outlasted wu tang clan, the biggest issue with the wu was that New York mentality they rarely did songs
with anybody outside of ny, they thought that New York mystique would never were off and it did they could never recover.
Bone thugs did songs with tupac, biggie, big pun and even went to the south and did stuff with Master P by doing this they extended
their legacy by reaching out to other fan bases. Even till this day the wu cant get it together there is always a issue with something
mainly money and splits, while bone thugs tour the world as a five man unit

      1. Yep I been to 14 bone thugs shows, 5 outkast shows, 7 Em shows, 4 jay z shows, 2 nas shows, 2 master p shows,
Since 2011 most of bone shows are a 4-5 members there

    14. comments down here claiming bone n thugs more legendary than wu-tang is a ridiculous joke. wu-tang as a collective have at least 8 indisputable classics. ghostface has at least 2 classic albums – hes. legend. people salty cuz he put action bronson in his place who is wanna-be ghostface and sucks. I still see droves of youngsters with wu-tang t-shirts esp cuz Drake helped revitalize interest. I like bonenthugs but that was the 90s new york hiphop when things were wildin. obviously that era has passed

      1. You must be from New York, yea the 90s was the time for East coast rap, but bone thug had way more success
than wu tang, bone had more top 10 songs, more classics, more classic collabs, higher selling albums. In 1998
Bone thugs won best rap artist at the American Music awards over Wu tang that said a lot.

    15. “That’s my Ghostface story. I really seen him do some shit in the streets that’s way past anything that’s said on social media.”

So throwing a champagne bottle at somebody, and missing them…that’s “some shit in the streets”?

      1. yea to me it also doesnt sounds like a compliment and besides that it was said that someone else was throwing da bottle

      2. Yeah I read that too, what the hell was that about? Like… A real genuine Ninja Shinobu? If that’s true… Then… I dunno how the rest of the day continues to move forward.

    16. lyrics I would give to wu tang, Flow I would give to bone, production slight edge to bone, group albums even, solo albums I would give to wu tang, classic songs I would have to give to bone, collabs goes to bone.

    17. Aint nobody trying to hear that corny shit from you wu tang clan fans I grew up in Miami I never once seen a nigga
with a wu tang clan cd, have a wu tang song on there Ipod,

      1. Don’t know about Miami homie, but EVERYBODY was bumpin’ Wu in Cali. I moved to South Florida in ’97 (Fort Lauderdale) and Wu-Tang Forever was everywhere.. Swear to God, it just came on my Pandora as I writing this! Bone was bangin’ also.

    18. YOU COMPARING BONE THIS TO WU-TWU-TANG !!!???…. ALL IS LOST. PEOPLE OUT SIDE OF NEW YORK NEVER UNDERSTOOD REAL HIP HOP !…WU-TWU-TANG FOREVER !!!!!!!

      1. Thats the issue with New York to arrogant, People outside of New York dont understand hip hop really?? Im not a wu tang or bone thugs fans but hands done I prefer Bone over wu most people do. Honestly outside of NY wu is consider corny and wack

      1. Yea thats sounds about right, but you forgot to mention that wu tang were for dudes that are in there 40s and still live in there
moms basement, oh cant forget the du rags and ninja suits

    19. Where the hell all these Bone Thugs fans come from? I swear, past articles about them didn’t have this many fans and most comments were “they’re old, washed up, irrelevant” type comments. Y’all just popped up out of the blue.

      1. Bone and wu fans go hard my dude lol, besides maybe tupac and biggie bone thugs and wu tang has the strongest
fanbase of rap artist from the 90s that golden era of rap
