Chief Keef made it loud and clear that he was a fan of clothing brand True Religion at the start of his career. In 2012, the Chicago native unleashed the track “True Religion Fien,” and the appreciation only grew from there. Fast forward 10 years and the “Don’t Like” rapper is finally getting a chance to collaborate with the brand he helped make popular.
On Tuesday (April 26), True Religion announced they are partnering with Chief Keef for a special collaboration that includes denim jackets, jeans, T-shirts, sweatpants and hoodies with details including flames, cartoon skulls, hearts, and phrases like “TRUEEE.”
The upcoming release will be hitting True Religion’s web store on May 5. The 26-year-old recently spoke to Complex about the new collaboration and expressed how excited he was to have secured it.
“It’s always been a dream to work with True Religion since back when I made the song,” Chief Keef told Complex in an interview. “I told them I started designing and wanted to do a collab and work on some stuff. And they was down to let me do it. They gave me full creativity to do it all. I just went to work.”
He continued, “True Religion was like one of those things you wore if you had a little money or something like that. You’d see the fly girls wearing it. You’d see the fly boys wearing it. Not too many people had it in Chicago, but I don’t know. I just became a big fan of it, seeing the style of the jeans.”
Keef is the latest rapper to collaborate with a clothing brand as he follows in the footsteps of people such as Kanye West, Lil Uzi Vert, Cardi B, Travis Scott, J. Cole, Pharrell Williams and more. Fans hit with nostalgia after the announcement of Chief Keef’s collab with True Religion will be even more excited when the “Love Sosa” rapper takes the stage on April 30.
According to the Smokers Club Festival line-up, Chief Keef will be performing his 2012 debut album Finally Rich in full during his set at California’s Smoker’s Club Festival at the Glen Helen Amphitheater.
