How do you know you’ve made it? When the former president can’t shut up about you? Or is it when you’re being referenced in an iconic comic book? Luckily, Chance The Rapper doesn’t have to make that choice, because both of those things happened to him this week.
Let’s start with the Spider-Man comic. Chano was the subject of another Hip Hop reference from Marvel, where a character says, “I’m young! And hip! Ask me any question about Chance The Rapper…”
And now we move on to Exhibit B: Barack Obama. Obama has paid tribute to Chance on plenty of occasions, inviting him to state dinners and to perform at the White House’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony.
Now he has said that the Chicago rapper will be welcome in his Presidential Library anytime. President Obama has said that the new building will be a “hub for the community” based in Chicago, containing features never before seen in a Presidential Library, such as a play area for children and a recording studio.
According to the New York Times, Obama said he hopes for “a studio where I can invite Spike Lee and Steven Spielberg to do workshops on how to make films and a recording studio where I could invite Chance or Bruce Springsteen, depending on your tastes, to talk about how you could record music that has social commentary and meaning.”
We can’t see Chance turning down that invitation.
I think marvel comics was making a joke about being trendy. Obama is a trendy elitist so that makes sense. On a side note, who is paying for obama’s new presidential playground/studio/library?
So sad…..Thats All!
Its sad that this is news, and what will be even sadder is if the american taxpayers are going to pay for obama’s vanity. “a studio where I can invite Spike Lee and Steven Spielberg to do workshops on how to make films and a recording studio where I could invite Chance or Bruce Springsteen.” So this is what Chicago really needs? Yes this little vanity project is the remedy to all the black on black violence in Chicago, well done Obama. And here we thought you abandoned Chicago! This is how the trailer for obama’s glorified starbucks library will sound; “In a city dominated by record breaking black on black violence, one man has a vision. And that vision is a presidential playground with a library. Fear not Chicago, Mr. Obama has not abandoned you, and he an answer to all the violence. Watch a movie with spike lee, listen to some springsteen, read a book, share your workout playlist…. Don’t mind all the murders going on around you, come to the community hub and have a coffee!”
Seriously that’s what you have to say about this. You must be some right wing hater trolling this sight. But either way let me educate you. Since the 1930’s If I remember right every president has had a presidential library built. They are not paid for with tax dollars either they do fundraisers to get the funds. Anyways what’s wrong with providing a recording studio in the museum? Maybe it will help some kids get off those streets or inspire some kids to not be involved with a gang or all that violence. It’s gonna be built in Chicago no matter what since that is what is considered his home state. The location is set in stone. So why not build something in it that will actually attract the youth in the city instead of just being a tourist attraction.
I’m sick of the pure negativity
I’m a realist, lets get the violence under control first please, then lets make sure our young people are safe at school (attendance will rise), then lets start reforming the education system that has failed so many of Chicago’s youth. Or you can spend money on an arcade or whatever you wanna call it. Once this thing has been built it will require management, maintenance, and security; which will be on going costs for? On a side note, I like Chance the Rapper as a person and a musician, I am not against giving back to the city of Chicago. But put that money into the schools if you are going to ignore the violence. Increase salaries for teachers, put more money into ensuring the safety of those who attend school, update the school’s facilities. Don’t draw the kids away from schools in hopes of being a rapper, very few make it far enough to support themselves in the entertainment industry. With no education many youths are drawn into gangs and the drug trade. Nip the problem in bud, don’t slap a band aid on the tumor.
Darth Soros will fund this no doubt
