Cardi B‘s unfiltered, down-to-Earth social media posts have won her an army of admirers including You star Penn Badgley, but those expecting the usual entertainment from the Bronx bombshell should prepare to be disappointed.
On Sunday (April 3), Cardi B deactivated her Twitter and Instagram accounts — which had north of 10 million and 120 million followers, respectively — after finding herself embroiled in a spat with her fans over her absence from the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, which took place in Las Vegas that night.
Some fans expressed their disappointment at Cardi’s no-show and believe she had indicated that she would be attending “music’s biggest night,” where she was nominated for Best Rap Performance thanks to her chart-topping 2021 hit “Up.”
“When did I hype y’all up ?” she wrote in response to one fan’s tweet. “Where and when did I ever gave hints ? Like are you ok ? I’m not going to a award if I don’t got a new song to perform Or my album ain’t out …Next year.”
In another since-deleted tweet, Cardi reminded her fans “I been posting on my IG stories where I been at … like clearly I’m in my house and I’m in NY the fuck.”
Before signing off the social media platforms, Cardi B called her fanbase “fuckin dumb” and blasted them for bringing her and Offset’s children — 3-year-old daughter Kulture and six-month-old son — into the online spat.
“I’m deleting my twitter but On God I hate this fuckin dumbass fan base,” she tweeted. “You got the slow dumbasses dragging my kids all cause y’all though I was going to the Grammys and I didn’t the fuck ? When the fuck I hinted I was going ?just fuckin stupid I can’t I needs to protect myself.”
Even had she attended the Grammys, Cardi B wouldn’t have graced the stage as Baby Keem and Kendrick Lamar‘s “Family Ties” took home the award for Best Rap Performance, which, controversially, was the only rap category that was televised.
This isn’t the first time Cardi B has quit social media. In March 2018, the 29-year-old deleted her Instagram page and locked her Twitter account after being called an “illiterate, untalented rat” by Azealia Banks for her poor grammar and spelling.
“Why is it that male rappers can speak how they want act how they want but people constantly bash me for it?” Cardi tweeted before deleting her account. “Why do i feel like i have to apologize for being who i am? talking how i talk and being what ya call ‘Ghetto’ wtff. LEAVE ME ALONE!”
Nor is Cardi B the only rapper to have departed social media this year. After weeks of attacking his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, her new boyfriend Pete Davidson and others on Instagram, Kanye West was suspended from the social media platform in March.
Ye was reportedly hit with only a 24-hour ban, although he’s remained inactive since his March 16 suspension. According to Page Six, the Chicago rap icon recently told Kim Kardashian he “will go away somewhere to get better.”
The democratic puppet known as Cardi b has a team of pr and advisors working around the clock to make sure she doesn’t embarrass herself and her political handlers. Welp, the house of cards (no pun) can only stand for so long. They gonna work even harder to cover this one up
Why does it matter if a performer doesn’t appear in an audience of a music event? Doesn’t it say more about their character if they choose to spend the time with their family?
It shouldn’t matter. Give people their right to have family time, down time , me time. They are just human. They are already under enough pressure to perform for their fans. Leave that woman alone !!!!!!!
That thing barely qualifies as a human let alone a woman.
the fans on social media are parasites. the game is fucked. all you have are enemies online people who think they can troll you if you’re great or criticize you whenever they feel like it. just a parade of fucking losers on twitter from top to bottom. a complete scourge and a curse to the game. better off learning a trade building a business leave the dumb sht for clowns. be a man and press up some records on the low for the people. play low key local shows on the weekend for friends that’s it. stay in school.
….but artists need them…for nothing more than $. Just make the music, do the shows, have a Coke and a (fake) smile, and STFU on anything outside the work.
nah b fuck the hostage life. they can’t make this work for artists fuck the industry. first they steal our money now our life is supposed to be a living hell. fuck every last freeloading fan first fan who gets shot thinking it can’t happen might start a good trend
Put out childish music, get childish fans. That’s the transaction wtf you thought it was gonna be? Same dumbass fans that are ready to cancel somebody on request, the same fans asking you dumbass questions. This how y’all made it to be!
lol you got a point
That’s a fact. She puts out garbage dumbed down music and she can barely write a proper sentence but mad she attracts these kinds of people. Talkin bout “I’m not going to a award…” foh lmaoo
cardi b is an inspiration.
Dumb artists have dumb fans. What was she expecting?
If you upset over something like this cause of an artist you like. You have serious issues. It’s never that serious. lol. They really act like they know these people. U know a persona of this person. It’s not real. Lol. Go worry about real life.
Humanity was a mistake. The most intelligent species on the planet and this is what we’ve become. Wish a giant meteor would come and smash this pitiful rock to tiny pieces. Fuck all of it. I’m ready to die.
Note to fans: Get a f’n life!
The way she talks she sounds retarded and she’s expecting smart ass fans “I needS to protect myself” lmao.
that song Up was nominated???? wtf smh
