JAY-Z emphatically stated there’s no one on earth who could face him one-on-one for a Verzuz battle. The Roc Nation mogul joined Alicia Keys’ Twitter spaces chat on Tuesday (December 21) and said matter-of-factly, “No one can stand on that stage with me. It’s not a chance in hell that anyone can stand on that stage with me.”
But at least one rapper begs to differ. As comments poured in online, Lil Jon offered his take and passionately predicted Busta Rhymes would easily beat Hov in a Verzuz battle: “BUSTA WILL SMOKE [smoke emoji] JAY Z [popcorn emoji],” he wrote.
Fat Joe would likely agree with Lil Jon. In September, the Terror Squad leader claimed other rappers are too afraid to face off with Bus-A-Bus, including himself.
“Fat Joe scared to do Verzuz with Busta Rhymes and so is everybody else,” he said. “You gotta understand, sometimes you ever notice — you seen boxers and they knock everybody out? People be scared to fight those boxers. Busta Rhymes is gonna outrap, outperform anybody who goes up in a Verzuz with him. That’s a fact.
“Yo, Busta Rhymes nobody wanna get in there with you, man. You might have to be an honorary — they gotta give you the check for no reason.”
Radio host J Cruz hopped in Hollywood Unlocked‘s comment section and pointed out, “Doing a verzuz has become a fear in many careers, even Hov knows there still a small chance the people will not choose him. Since the Nas battle he swore off the peoples vote.”
Verzuz has been omnipresent since Swizz Beatz and Timbaland founded the platform in 2020 as a way to combat the quarantine blues. It has since blossomed from an “Instagram Live show” to full-on events at places such as Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater and the Hollywood Palladium.
lol lil john
I agree. “Smoke” is a strong word, but yes I think Busta would beat Jay-Z. If people haven’t figured it out yet, Verzuz is mostly about the “mood” you put people in with your songs. A lot of Jay-Z’s best moments are subtle, slick bars that you might not even have caught the first time. His moments don’t always have the greatest production at the same time. Busta has too many moments where he’s being lyrical, energetic, AND the production is crazy at the same time.
WHAT!?!?!?!
Busta will smoke his ass Jay z very overrated for me. Mid 90s Jigga weren’t shit a lot of great rappers died before he got top spot
and that’s the truth
Jay z fans forgot about Pun putting that champagne bottle over Hovas head lololol
Greatest of all time my ass he ain’t better then Big L
What makes big L better fam? He was as versatile oas a song maker in my opinion. Gotta have more than just being lyrically gifted.
*wasn’t *of
Busta could give Jay a run for his money. They both from the same eras. Jay’s rhymes are more intricate though
Nas could take him on with the right song selection, Ludacris too
Did everyone forget about “ETHER” ???
Nas would murder jay z… AGAIN!!!!
Nas could get up in that ass for sure!!! He has has forgotten the culture we don’t want any that Pop shit over here!!! Maybe Jay Z and Rihanna for most pop songs… Nas is different man. Dude is just different in a rapper.
I 100 percent agree! Nas can foe the distance with Jay Z easily. 20 songs… hell yeah!!! If Nas play “Shootouts” on the first song, it is over before it began! New York will be tore down!!!! Period…
Nas can beat Jay Z… It is no question in that! Jay Z is a pop artist man… The streets don’t want to hear going to run this town tonight with Rihanna and Kanye West… hehe…
“Ochie wally” and “you owe me” is what they really want huh? Lmaooooooo
*Oochie Wally
You know damn well Nas wont bring those tracks out for a verzuz. Lmao.
Lmao hell naw. Was joking around though. Nas fans always throw that part of his history in the shadows though. Homes tried to go pop radio with a few of his songs, can’t blame him, wanting that bag.
Nas is the great breed that can… Jay is a little too cocky…why anyone can and will question Nas… the God Mc!!! My bet is on Nas!
Think about… Nas versus Jay Z…. Nas will slaughter the dude. Remix with “I made you Look” Jada and Ludicrous Gwizzzz man! New York will be shut down!!!! Brooklyn Bridge will be under construction…Nas… Nas… Nas… child please!
Jay Z is a pop artist. Simple folks!!! He ain’t messing with no Nas!!! He better unearth Biggie and Tupac for Nas!!!
Who in the hell made so many accounts to keep pushing their Nas narrative?!? ?
I remember seeing busta in the elevator in the william morris building, I was just a mailroom clerk at that time, very humble dude, definitely street, I remember seeing jay in BK pushing drugs, many years ago, didn’t know he can rap until I saw a video of him, I was shocked, jay is good but not that good to say, no one can see him, and I’m from brooklyn, nas can see him, em can see him, krs1 has 25 albums so he also can see him, I would say rockiness, or buck shot, but underground rappers are underrated, so jay revisit your statement
Both Nas or Busta would whoop Jay z in a battle.
Nas doesn’t have 20 hits to put together fam. Ether alone isn’t saving that man lol.
Gotta be kidding
You must have lost your mind.
I’m seeing this comments, but no list. Make one of nas’s hit songs, not ya favorites. Chart toppas, that’s what verzuz mainly goes off of.
“I ain’t animated, like say a, Busta Rhymes”
Even his own cigar would smoke Jay-Z in a verzuz.
Thought versus was a celebration, when it become a battle.
Anyone can be touched not even Jay immune problem is you keep saying no one can touch you but you don’t give em chance to prove your point, it’s all talk. No what at this point I’m pretty sure I can knock out every WBA champion in the first round, y’all don’t need to see it just take my word for it.
and y’all should think about switching your comment section to disqus or something because this ain’t it, enjoy my throwaway email.
Nas and Jay need to do a 4 city co headlining tour. Swap who opens each night, then do their collabos at the end together.Get Ms.Lauren out there for If I Ruled the World and Keys for New York. Film a documentary, even Barack would attend. They too big for verzus.
Also call it Escova-22. Ny, LA, Mia and Chappelle’ corn field. The name of the show might not fly though.
Come on man. Bustas live presence is uncanny. Jay Z is not a performer like that. Matter of fact. I think Busta could take out Em as well just based on performance.
The two most obvious choices of people that would dismantle Jay in Verzuz is Dre and/or Kanye. Kanye simply has way more hits plus if he was to battle Jay, Jay couldnt use his Yeezy joints without Ye taking some credit for it. Dre is obviously a worse rapper than Jay just like Busta can obviously outflow Jay. However, Dre has so many timeless hits that Jay can’t go close to battling him.
