Given that the 2019 Super Bowl will take place in the city where “the players play,” crooner Bruno Mars offered a few suggestions for the big game’s intermission.
The halftime show veteran hit Twitter on Monday (February 5) for clarification that next year’s Super Bowl would in fact take place in Atlanta. After receiving confirmation from fans (and Waffle House), Bruno made the case for a Hip Hop-heavy halftime set.
“. @NFL you have the opportunity to celebrate incredible Hip Hop Artist from Atlanta Next year,” Bruno Mars tweeted.
The Grammy Award-winning musician then offered his thoughts on who the NFL should consider for the show. Among the artists Bruno suggested were Outkast and Gucci Mane.
“. @NFL Outkast. T.I Gucci, lil jon, Jeezy, Jermaine Dupri just to name a few. it would be the best party Tv has ever seen!,” he wrote.
Bruno’s list of potential acts even got a cosign from Gucci Mane himself. Gucci declared that such a show would be “legendary.”
While the Gucci Mane halftime show idea may be a new one, this isn’t the first time Outkast has been mentioned as potential performers for the 2019 Super Bowl halftime show.
In 2016, after it was announced that Atlanta would host the 2019 Super Bowl, fans quickly rallied around the idea of a halftime show featuring the duo.
But in a 2015 interview, Big Boi said the group had previously turned down the opportunity to perform.
“We were supposed to perform at the Super Bowl,” he said. “But we had two songs, ‘The Way You Move’ and ‘Hey Ya’ and [Andre 3000] didn’t want to split the songs up. He didn’t want to cut the songs. He wanted to do both songs. They was like, ‘Y’all can’t do it.”
“To this day, he’s like, his son tells him, ‘Dad, you should’ve performed at the Super Bowl,’” Big Boi explained. “We look at it now, we laugh, but hopefully they’ll invite us back.”
let me make sure I am understanding this correctly – hip hop condones taking a knee during football games – now hip hop wants to play during the half time show at the championship football game?
Shut yo white ass up, don’t come here if your not for the culture. White people stay hating.
White ppl are slick bitter when it comes to this topic, but why do we expect them to understand lol. Anyway he does have a point. Why support the NFL if we’re seen as inmates? Meanwhile rappers see this as an opportunity to make some cash while maintaining exposure.
You really think the NFL players took that to heart? They get paid really well, doubt they see themselves as inmates. The whole issue with Kap, is they basically tried to say he can’t kneel, that’s how much control white people want. The NFL isn’t the issue, it’s the white people who made it the issue & the “super bug” DT leading the way. They couldn’t stand an African American speak (ironically, just kneeled quietly, not causing havoc) up against police brutality and racism towards African Americans. It is historically proven, that white people hate anybody who doesn’t look like them. So back to what you said, nothing wrong with hip hop in the NFL, we support the players.
Word. I agree
hip hop ain’t american…crocodile dundee is more american than hh.
Hip hop is one of only two musical genres that originated in the US. Do ya homework
Do it for me oh wise one…but not enough to read between the lines of my comment. You didn’t get it…and technically Hip Hop originated in Jamaica…I thought you knew.
I would like to see D’Angelo and his Vanguard Band that would be dope or Trombone Shorty the boy is dope to some real musical instruments on stage how bout P’Funk George Clinton one of the most sampled artist by hip hop artist landing the Mothership on stage at half time well far as hip hop artist Westside Connection Ice Cube,WC, Mack10 or Travis Barker , or The Wu Tang Clan
Usher can bring out Ludacris and lil Jon, his last album was very good. If not him Outkast, and T.I both have anthems.
Don’t forget JD
