Dwyane Wade opened up about his 12-year-old child’s transgender journey during a recent interview with Good Morning America — and evidently Boosie Badazz couldn’t help himself from weighing in.
The retired NBA star sat down with GMA‘s Robin Roberts on Tuesday (February 18) and explained, “She [Zaya] is our leader. I think when the conversation we had — the one thing about it, for parents, is have conversations with your kids. Zaya, early on, knew two things. She knew straight and she knew gay. But Zaya started doing more research.
“She is the one who sat down with us as a family and said, ‘Hey, I don’t think I’m gay.’ And she went down the list. ‘This is how I identify myself, this is my gender identity, I identify myself as a young lady. I think I’m a straight trans because I like boys.’ So it was a process for us to sit down with our daughter and find out who she is and what she likes, and not put something on her.”
Boosie quickly headed to Instagram to express his apparent disgust, making it abundantly clear where he stands on the issue.
“I gotta say something about this shit,” he begins in the video. “Dwyane Wade, you’ve gone too fucking far, bro. That is a male. A 12-year-old. At 12, they don’t even know what they next meal gonna be. They don’t have shit figured out yet. He might meet a woman at 16 and fall in love with her, but his dick be gone.

At most, older FTM trans teens MIGHT have top surgery, but even that is incredibly uncommon. The medical standard of care, if anyone cares for real scientific information, involves counseling, gender affirmation in the home and community (such a clothing, hair style, and pronouns), and puberty blockers. Puberty blockers simply delay puberty so that FTM teens don’t develop breasts they do not want and MTF teens don’t develop deeper voices, masculinization of their features, and excessive body hair. This is ENTIRELY REVERSABLE. At the age of 18, the individual can decide what to do from there. If they change their mind, puberty blockers can be stopped and puberty will begin then. I volunteered at a harm reduction and needle exchange, and some of the transgenders that came in for supplies for their hormonal therapy were the nicest people I ever met. It’s incredibly confusing to grow up not feeling you’re the gender you were born as, and learning words that help you describe how you feel can be very meaningful. It’s painful to see how little people understand trans. Gender identity is not just male or female boxes that you fill out. It’s more than that.

in order to not make a hasty decision, as a parent you should
1. Wait at least two years from when they first start speaking about it to even start having that conversation.
2. Not allow them to make any permeant life changes until they are an adult of 18 years just as every parent should do for choice that should be made by an adult: wait until they are adults.
3. Let them be adults and finance this by themselves just as you should let them finance their own home, car, pay their own rent, etc. Because it isn’t until a child is responsible for themselves that they actually become an adult, until then they are unappreciative and hence children. That’s why some adults act like children: they never had to be responsible like an adult.
wade’s son, for all we know, might end up changing his mind down the line about being transgender, and trying to reverse any chemical changes to the body made before 18 will be the most devastating and painful experience of his life, and wade should not allow that to happen. let his son live longer and figure himself out. let him grow and develop further before you get him to make any checmical changes.
