“Black Panther” & Kendrick Lamar Make History Again With 7 Oscar Nominations

All the stars remain in motion for box office juggernaut Black Panther and its original soundtrack.

The 91st Annual Academy Awards nominations were announced on Tuesday (January 22). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Black Panther is up for seven Oscars, including Best Picture. It marks the first time a superhero film has ever been nominated in that particular category.

Kendrick Lamar, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, Sounwave and SZA also received a Best Original Song nomination for the soundtrack’s lead single “All The Stars” featuring K. Dot and SZA. Again, it’s the first time a rap song for a superhero film or song for a superhero film in general has earned the nod.

Other nominations for the highest-earning superhero film of all-time include Best Costume Design, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Original Score categories.

The 91st Annual Academy Awards air live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood on February 24.

    1. Kendrick the sell out is now accepted into the Hollywood clan. His carefully crafted wokeness will be rewarded. Nobody is surprised.

      1. You might want to check your facts.
        Internationally
Avenger: Infinity War is first, Avengers (2012) is second, Avengers: Age of Ultron is third, followed by Black Panther at 4th.

Domestically: Black Panther is the highest grossing superhero film of all-time.

They’re half right. You’re all wrong.

    2. Black Panther: one of the most average movies I’ve ever seen. Why is it nominated for best picture? Because white Hollywood liberals feel guilty about atrocities towards blacks involving segregation and slavery.

    3. black panther was good but this is a token nomination because of what the oscars did to black films and actors over the last few years.

    4. infinity war was better in every aspect than black panther, and i can think of several marvel films way better than black panther smh more pc craaaaap.

    5. I doubt that an attempt to be PC or white guilt is the reason why it was nominated so much. Yes it was an average movie that people massively over hyped, but that happens all the time with big budget movies. Quiet place, Bird Box, Wonder Woman, Aqua man, and a bunch of other movies received a ton of overdue praise. Let’s not act like this is an exclusively black thing.

    6. that movie has the worst action scenes in a hero movie, on one side is fucking spiderman and thor flying and destroying shit and in the other is some assholes fighting with lances like fucking caveman

    7. This is literally equivalent to letting the retard score a goal and believe he actually did it.

    8. Affirmative Action in action. At least the Oscars sparred us from another “Oscars So White” social media outrage. Nobody wanted to deal with that again.

    9. What is an Oscar really? Awarded based on perspective? perception? Instead of attacking something you don’t understand, with misplaced hate, try then to understand the reasoning behind the Oscar nod. Was there an important message for all to heed that you missed? Would you say the same things about Dark Night?

      1. No because Dark Knight isn’t fucking mediocre, Black Panther was the fucking live action Lion King story, which was the animal version of fucking Hamlet so let’s stop pretending they did something here that wasn’t done 30 years ago, better, by Eddie Murphy with “Coming to America”.

        Missed something, you’re fucking adorable.
