Hollywood, CA

Although award season isn’t quite here yet, Black Panther has already started collecting them.

The Ryan Coogler-directed film will be receiving 2018’s Hollywood Film Award on November 4 at the annual awards show.

“Black Panther became a cultural phenomenon that has broken boundaries and created a movement, gracing the cover of Time magazine,” the HFA said in a statement. “Black Panther had the highest grossing non-sequel opening weekend of all time, showing that diversity and representation in front and behind the camera can equal global box-office success.”

Black Panther will also be honored with the Hollywood Production Design Award.

The news comes just a few weeks after it was announced Coogler had signed on to direct the sequel. Black Panther had the highest-grossing opening weekend of all time for a non-sequel film, bringing in $241.9 million over President’s Day holiday weekend.

Disney will be pushing to prioritize the film in 16 categories at the 91st Annual Academy Awards ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on February 24 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. [apple_news_ad type=”any”]
