Styles P Explains Why Biggie Is The ‘Greatest’ Rapper Of All Time

Styles P is once again preaching The Notorious B.I.G. being the greatest rapper of all time, and he’s not taking any debates on the topic.

Styles appeared on the latest episode of the YouTube series Creators Club alongside Jadakiss, where The LOX duo sat down for a chat about healthy living, the metaverse, the state of Hip Hop and more.

One of the topics that came up was Biggie and his relationship with The LOX when they first joined Diddy’s Bad Boy Records in the ’90s.

Kiss revealed the Yonkers trio had yet to actually meet the late Brooklyn rapper before appearing on his Life After Death track “Last Day,” which they recorded their verses for separately. When they did eventually meet, The LOX instantly connected with Biggie and realized his greatness.

“I think most people understand him as the greatest MC to ever live. What makes him the greatest, he was really great in all aspects of rhyming,” Styles said. “Most people are good in two categories, maybe three, if you’re pushing it. Big was really, really nice in all categories.

“But what really topped it off was he was a charismatic individual, but he was very fucking classy and a G at the same time.”

Styles added that Biggie treated everyone the same way and was also a giving person if someone ever needed something. Ghost said The LOX consider themselves to be the same way, and that led to a fruitful relationship between the former labelmates.

“He ain’t just treat me, Kiss and Louch good; he treated all over our homeboys good,” Styles continued. “He would treat my man how he would treat me. He would give me that same drink, that same weed, that same thing, and I think that’s what set him apart for me.”

He added: “I think he embodied something that most people don’t, and he was a student of the game. He loved rhyming, so when he heard us rhyme, and you know, at those times when somebody asked you to rhyme, you rhymed.

“I think we embody the same thing he embodied. I think it just made him have a natural kind of clinging to us, and vice versa.”

This isn’t the first time Styles P has crowned Biggie the G.O.A.T. During an appearance on The Big Face Gary Show last year, the “Good Times” MC elaborated on his admiration for Christopher Wallace, who he ranked above JAY-Z and others.

“Big wins on the evolution tip,” he said. “Big’s second album was global. Do you understand what I’m sayin’? Global. He hit a different chamber and level to even have the audacity to say my second one is gonna be my second and third one.”

2022 marked a series of major milestones for The Notorious B.I.G.: the 25th anniversary of his still-unsolved March 1997 murder, the 25th anniversary of his second and final album Life After Death, and what would’ve been his 50th birthday.

      1. Overrated? No. His two albums (one which was a double, so really 3 albums) were all rated as they should have been…. as classics. So he’s not overrated. It’s just hard to crown him the forever greatest of every emcee who’s ever done it, with his limited catalog.

      2. Biggie is overrated as fuck. You can hear this fat fuck catch his breath while he’s rapping. Plus nobody can be granted the goat status with only two albums. FOH! I am disappointed of Styles P who lived alongside DMX who is the actual goat. X’s flow, lyricism and energy are unmatched to this day. And the five albums he dropped between 1998 and 2003 are bangers too.

      3. Yes, overrated with only 2 ALBUMS. If we’re talking solo albums, the double album is still considered one… Quit trying to move the goal posts and switch up the album narrative in your favor. Either way he wouldn’t deserve the goat title whatsoever over his limited catalog like you said.

      4. Y’all some straight haters Biggie is da best whoever think otherwise EAD!!!!! For u clowns who don’t know wat dat mean EAT A DICK….Brooklyn is da hardest borough 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

    1. You know how many rappers had 1-2 fire albums then fell off? Sustained greatness is the true test that’s why people put Jay, Nas Scarface in their top 5. Hell I have Ice Cube above Biggie as he essentially did the same thing just from a different coast.

    2. Imagine being upset over someone else’s personal opinion. Our personal opinion will always differ. We tend to change our minds at times. Nothing’s set in stone. That being said, Biggie, Styles P and AZ will always be in my top 5 though.

    3. Can’t help to wonder if Biggie was still alive and still in the rap game how much he would have achieved and how he would have been a mentor to many rap artists; and how he would have sounded on a dope trap beat. It’s undeniable that the rap game lost an extraordinary giant and a legend. Undoubtedly dude made an indelible impact on the game!

    4. Biggie somehow falls in both categories of as of the greats & untapped potential. It’s like, if you take away Michael Jordan’s stats from 1984 -1990 & from 1994 – 2001, leaving you w/ only his first 3 peat — he’ll still be considered one of the best ever, but probably not THE best ever. That’s Biggie. He’s MJ from 1991-1993 w/ a 3-peat, but “retired’ before we could see what else was coming.

    5. Biggies shit is just timeless and he has a song for any mood you could possibly have. Sure he wasn’t the best rhymer to ever exist but what he did, he executed perfectly

    6. Biggie has always been wack. He’s not even in my top 50. No, Lil Wayne isn’t in my top 50 either. No, Juice WRLD is not a rapper, but a wack ass pop star. Anyway, if anybody thinks ‘Hypnotize’ or ‘Sky’s the Limit’ are good hip-hop songs that knows nothing about the genre.

      1. Never heard of a rapper saying he wants to be like Biggie. Sit your ass down. Or the media calling a rapper ‘new Biggie’.

    7. NY cats will always be biased towards NY. LA cats will mention NY rappers. NY, won’t. NY was hating on the West because they made music there. That being said, Biggie stole his name from someone else, Biggie stole the idea of his breakout song from Tupac. Biggie ain’t great, he’s just overrated.

    8. Man Big is not better than no Nas! Is this dude crazy or what? FOH——love Big but he is no Nas and I don’t care how many records another artist has sold or Grammys. No rapper is touching Nas, period in rhyming or style. I will give PAC his flowers though for sure but not in rhyming schemes.

      1. QuAlITy OvEr QuAnTiTy, Foh with that weak statement… Not much quality there either since his catalog was very limited, especially when the subject matter stayed the same for both albums.

      2. You addressing it means my opinion does exist little girl. Again, same subject matter for both albums with limited “quality”. Accept it and get off Biggie dick.

    9. Some of y’all need to wake up and smell the coffee already. 2Pac is wildly overrated. Pac was not a dope rapper at all. That Thug life actor, wannabe gangster. GOH

    10. Decades later and we’re still talking about Biggie’s impact on the rap game. He still inspires rappers to spit fire on the mic. Y’all haters love Biggie lowkey. Stop playing!
