6ix9ine has left rap behind for the time being, dropping off his third studio album Leyenda Viva – and it’s all in Spanish.

The 11-track LP arrived as a surprise to fans on Friday (June 16) with very little features, though Latin Grammy-winning star Lenier makes seven appearances in total. The title translates to “Living Legend” in English.

Included on the tracklist is the previously-released regional Mexican-inspired record “Y Ahora,” which was made in conjunction with Mexican band Guapo Firme.

The effort is 6ix9ine’s first full studio album in three years, and follows his sophomore album TattleTales released in 2020. Arriving just after his high-profile release from prison, TattleTales debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 with 53,000 album-equivalent units in its first week.

The Billboard rules have since changed, though, and 6ix9ine recently aired his grievances against the publication after they reinstated their rule that excludes merch bundles from counting towards chart placements. The Rainbow-haired rapper said it happened in the summer of 2020 after he sold over three million dollars worth of merch for his “Gooba” single.

“The rule got changed in June/July 2020,” 6ix9ine wrote on IG. “I sold over 3,000,000 dollars of bulged merch for gooba. The nicki and travis thing was in 2018 for queen because I promoted it. The industry changed rules and laws just to blackball an artist that’s how I know I’m really him. Get mad all you want but this is facts.”

6ix9ine was referring to when Nicki Minaj went nuclear on Travis Scott after her 2018 album Queen debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 behind Scott’s Astroworld, which snagged the No. 1 spot.

In more positive news, 6ix9ine’s image was recently immortalized on a mural in his mother’s home country of Mexico. Unfortunately, it lies in one of the city’s most dangerous areas.

During a short visit to his mother’s homeland last month, the rapper stopped by Tepito. The area has been nicknamed “Barrio Brava” – which means fierce neighborhood – but when 6ix9ine touched down, he was met with tons of love.

He also came across a mural dedicated to him, which gave him the chance to meet fans and take pictures while he admired the artwork.
