21 Savage has been awarded his very own day in his home state of Georgia in conjunction with his humanitarian efforts.

On Wednesday (December 21), 21 and his Leading By Example Foundation put on their fourth annual Grant-A-Wish event, where they gifted 100 local parents and their children toys and food for the Christmas season.

At the event, the Savage Mode II rapper was awarded his own day by State Representative Billy Mitchell. A proclamation ceremony was held at the Christmas giveaway to officially declare December 21 as “21 Savage Day.”

21 was honored for his humanitarian efforts in his community, such as the 21 Savage Bank Account campaign, which aims to encourage students to understand the basics of financial literacy and saving money for college. 21 $1,000 scholarships were handed out to get the initiative off the ground.

“Growing up in Atlanta, the hustling energy just rub off on you,” 21 said in a promo video advertising the campaign’s second runaround last year. “Financial literacy is important because that’s one of the main things that you need to operate and be successful as an adult. I just wanted to come up with something that could kids have some understanding of what to do with that money.”

Last year, 21, Leading by Example and Project Backboard fixed a basketball court at Parkway-Wabash Park, one of the many projects aimed at helping turn poverty around in Atlanta. According to 21 Savage, he wanted children to use the new court and the game of basketball to help them escape the difficulties in life.

“Basketball created space for me in my childhood to compete, learn camaraderie, and simply escape the challenges of everyday life,” he said. “I am hoping this court will allow kids in Zone 6 to do the same. When I started my foundation, Leading by Example, I was determined to remove barriers for the next generation of Atlanta because my success is shared with my community who consistently support and inspire me.”
