Conway The Machine Replies To Funk Flex’s On-Air Rant: ‘I’ll Deal Wit You In A Few’

Funk Flex, Conway The Machine and Pete Rock have been embroiled in an online squabble since Monday (July 11) when the Griselda MC called out the Hot 97 radio DJ  for allegedly “gatekeeping.” Obviously, Funk Flex took it personally and decided to address the entire situation on-air Thursday night (July 14).

“Do not sleep on the old guys like me,” he said to Conway. “I know how to work that internet, that social media. You’re never going to get me, bro. But I appreciate you cleaning yourself up after I gave you that nice little spanking [laughs]. We’re in a better place. I’m sorry you got Pete Rock as a snitch, but don’t worry, we’ll talk about that shortly.”

Conway quickly took note of Funk Flex’s comment and uploaded a video to his Instagram Stories with the caption, “Ok my n-gga! I heard the show, it’s my turn now. I’ll deal wit you in a few. Stay tuned.”

Conway The Machine appeared to strike a nerve when he took his thoughts to Instagram Live, saying, “New York, in my opinion, man you gotta get them old n-ggas up out the way like Flex and them n-ggas man. You know what I mean?

“Them gatekeepers that you got up there man that’s trying to dictate like who, you know what I’m saying? Like c’mon bruh. Good thing I don’t need y’all n-ggas cause if I needed y’all n-ggas y’all n-ggas would be fake stifling my groove.”

Funk Flex was ready with his all caps rebuttal, writing via Instagram, “@whoisconway hahahaha!” he started. “Soooo? Let’s begin! Your managed by ROCNATION (JAY-Z), Signed to SHADY RECORDS (EMINEM), Distributed by INTERSCOPE RECORDS? (MAJOR LABEL). YOU AND YOUR TEAM HAVE HAD A FEATURE FROM JAYZ, EMINEM, LIL WAYNE, JCOLE, JADAKISS, TRAVIS SCOTT, FRENCH MONTANA AND MORE???

“WASN’T U ON KANYE/DONDA ALBUM? IM GONNA GIVE YOU THE ADVICE PAUL ROSENBERG SHOULD OF GAVE U! YOU’RE A 40 PLUS ‘BARS RAPPER’ SORRY LYRICIST THAT HAS HAD EVERY RESOURCE POSSIBLE!”

Funk Flex Chooses Violence As He Responds To Conway The Machine's 'Gatekeeper' Comments

He added, “IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WITH YOUR ‘CAREER’ AS OF TODAY? WITH ALL THEM CO-SIGNS? I THINK U HAVE PEAKED MY GUY? WHAT U THINK (YOUR ONLY GONNA TAKE THIS AS DISRESPECT BECAUSE TRUTH MIGHT BE A BIT MUCH FOR YOU?

“SIGNED GRANDPA/WHEELCHAIR BANDIT/WARM MILK GENERAL. I MIGHT NEED A PODCAST? WHAT YALL THINK???”

As for Pete Rock, Funk Flex went in on him on Thursday night as well. He also said he’d give Conway The Machine a beat and one week to work on it, then he said he’d play it on Hot 97.

    1. he’s gatekeeping yet says he isn’t relevant, backtracking and pushing his agenda forward….what kind of beef is this? Sounds like he’s mad because he needs his approval at this point. Like let the people tell you how important you are fool. Griselda is cool but it’s turning more into a joke. Benny is the only one to move intelligently at this point. AYO BOOOP BOOP BOOP fuck outta here with that bullshit smh WWE wrestling about to sign Conway The Machine with that career move

      1. Exactly this whole situation is becoming embarrassing for NY as a whole. It’s hard enough for anyone to even make it big and actually be talented. Griselda thankfully is but him being mad at Funk or anyone else he believes is gate keeping him is dumb when they have a fan base and critical acclaim so they made it they don’t need everyone’s approval

        1. Yep. Don’t expect everyone to fuck with that type of sound. It’s just not for everybody and I thought Griselda was supposed to be underground. Why not keep it that way?

    2. I hear what Conway is saying though. Flex has been the gate keeper for the sound of NY / NYC. Funk isn’t spinning any Griselda tracks or at least like he should considering that’s NY.

I don’t think what Conway did was out of line. if this were the 90’s, hed have that same line but quoted in a word-up magazine/ source. But then again, if this were the 90’s he probably wouldn’t have to say it because spins were played on talent and Griselda would have received their air time.

      Busta’s album got no shine
      Bennys got no shine
      Conway got no shine
      Method mans got no shine
      Billy Danz got no shine
      Dave East gets no shine
this new Lloyd album(fire) will get no shine,

If a NY DJ can’t show love to NY artists, then who will? Funk also is bitter that Buffalo/ Tri state is making more “90s NYC” music than NYC is, don’t forget that too.

    3. Flex showing lot’s of hate these days. This is the station that wont play Wu tang. Everyone in New York needs to quit listening to Hot 97. 2 Pac was talking about bitch ass Flex years ago. Flex is a clown. Keep playing those corny ass records.

    4. If Griselda is the best thing NY has to offer right now, then East Coast rap is over. I’m sorry, but that stuff is not gonna age well. Now that violence is such a real part of everyone’s every day life now, it’s not really charming to hear 20 songs in a row about cooking crack and pulling triggers. Rappers just get so used to their one style that very few of them know how to get evolve. Same with DJs. Serato and all the programs after it made Hip-Hop DJing kind of obsolete. Flex isn’t really a “DJ” anymore, he’s just a good radio personality that plays songs. They’re probably not even on vinyl. Hip-Hop is dead if you think about it. There are some stragglers here and there doing their thing, but it’s a dying art for sure.

      1. You sound stupid… hip hop is and will always be the #1 genre of music and its room for all type of music… not just the bullshit they play on the radio

      2. What are you talking about? Ny is on top right now and Griselda is the reason. They even got banks going back in his bag
