Twitter Loves & Hates Eminem’s “Revival” Leak

Eminem’s ninth studio album, Revival, leaked two days ahead of schedule and Twitter already has a plethora of opinions pouring in on the new effort. From comments ranging from “it’s fucking lit” to “it’s fucking awful,” reactions to the project have been overwhelmingly mixed.

Lead singles “Walk On Water” featuring Beyoncé and “Untouchable” yielded similar responses. As Slim Shady discussed in a recent episode of Rick Rubin’s podcast Broken Record, “Walk On Water” addresses the immense pressure he feels to deliver perfection every time he opens his mouth.

“It’s the curse of the standard/ That the first of the Mathers disc set/ Always in search of the verse that I haven’t spit yet/ Will this step just be another misstep/ To tarnish whatever the legacy, love or respect, I’ve garnered?/ The rhyme has to be perfect, the delivery flawless,” he spits on the aforementioned “Walk On Water.”

Judging by the initial response, Em is still navigating some choppy waters and fans will either ride with him or abandon ship altogether.

Revival is officially scheduled for a Friday (December 15) arrival.

Check out some of the reactions below.

    1. My expectations are really low, maybe that will make it seem decent to me. Anyway, I wanted to hear the leak but I think it mostly got cleaned up by the time i found out about it. But in my search for “Revival leak”, I was redirected to a thread about that exact topic on Reddit. It was under the category “popheads” instead of the hip hop heads subreddit. Go figure.

    2. After 1 listen there’s a few songs that really stand out, a few songs that just sound average. The middle of the album is a little boring. First few songs and last few songs are really good, and at times he sounds like he did on Recovery, and on some he flows like he did on Relapse and the Eminem show, last couple songs have a great flow and great emotion as Em gets personal on his overdose. Production is good in some songs but overall not that great. Too early to rate it.

    3. Sounds like a mash up of his last 3 albums. He make current hiphop, stuck with his pop like beats. Worst than mmlp2 and recovery

    4. I don’t get it. The Alchemist is his DJ and he rather rhyme on beats made by Alex Da Kid? Why!? This Kid’s beats are terrible

      1. I agree with you on that part that Kid isn’t much of a producer – but then again, Alchemist fails way more often at making a decent beat than other usually-very-high-rated-producers (like Preemo, Adrian Younge…) so I can’t really back Em’s decision to go with Alchemist’s beats either. What he should’ve done is to make Mr. Porter produce the whole thing, or have Dre co-produce it along with Porter.

        1. so you think mr. porter is more capable of handling em songs ( he’s been doing beats for em) than alchemist? does mr. porter have a “keep it thoro, got it twisted, the realist, mastermind, terry, hold you down, revolutionary warfare? those 2 projects he did with currensy ( covert coup, carrollton heist) are production wise, better than anything em did since 2007.

    5. Album is alright on first listen, could grow on me after a few listens.Dont really like those cheesy stadium mainstream tracks, but chloraseptic is the craziest track i heard in a looong time in hip hop. That sound really fits him and why on earth can we never get pharrell/neptunes/eminem collab????

    6. My cousin just OD’ d last night. He was a big Em fan but he’d never admit it because of all you haters. This album is genuine and had he still been alive tonight he would’ve embraced it. Grow the fuck up and listen to the music for what it’s worth and ultimately designed to do: Make this world better for our children, our future, our existence…that and to slay sucka emcees! R.I.P. PROOF!…miss all of yall. -ONE

      1. Your cousin sounds like a p*ssy tbh. He was too scared to like him because some people don’t? That’s the stupidest thing I’ve heard all day. Tell him to grow a backbone and like what he likes.

      2. Your cousin isn’t lil peep is he? Joking aside, keep that to yourself, as there is too many kids on here

    7. And I have been vindicated! The first four songs on the album was the direction he should have taken, but right after track 5 with Ed it gets poppy. This guy is too scared to not make songs that would get industry numbers. He was trying to make 4.44 the white pop version pwaahahahahahahahaha. Bye Em! next album should be RETIRE!

    8. Lol finally everyone realized that this over-hyped and supremely overrated lame is a corny, gimmicky, pop-rap, wack piece of trash!!!!
      What took you so long?

“But Marshall, you are terrific, so smart and gifted / I’m so narcissistic, when I fart, I sniff it”

      Bwwwaaaahhhhhhaaaaaaaaa

      1. Your comment is why ppl hate kids these days. Eminem has had some of the best lyrics, songs and albums ever. Too bad we live in a world where all the haters (which is a vast minority) can gather on one platform and dictate the narrative on music, movies, sports or whatever else you think of. The ppl who love get drowned out by the hate on social media, and then they get labeled as dick riders. It’s cool to hate on legends nowadays (see Kodak Black for the latest idiot to do so)… Fuck all y’all.

    9. this new album is his best work in YEARS.. i feel like he’s picking better beats he stopped with all those bullshit words in one bar..albums way better

    10. Just Finished listening to the album and This album is greataf. I’m so fucking proud of him. Lately everyone is hating on him for no reason. Fuck yall what you guy want him to rap about the same old rapping, killing, abusing his mother stuff. Well wake up yall he is in mid 40’s. With time he evolved, he evolved to be great. Lately I was doubting him too his recent work is not that amazing but still way better than nowdays so called rap. I loved the album so before throwing shit at him listen to the fucking album.
I’m a stan,. i even has his name tatted across my arm

    11. …. meh

My problem with Em is after the Eminem show 80% of his subject matter is about his own lyrical ability

I can relate to his music…

Eminem hasn’t been relatable since Eminem show

    12. Ok so when ur talking about evolving in music do you mean that collabing with pink,x ambassadors,ed sheeran, kehlani etc is the answer ?He needs to stop with that dumb down, poppy, radioplay mainstream shit and make good music like the old days. Some real gems on the album, but to far and few between them. And he seriously need to drop those horrible rock sample beats, but maybe i havent evolved myself.Must probably sit myself down and listen to some pink for some much needed growing and evolving so lets get the party started…….In heeeeeeeereeee!

    13. Worst part of this album is the production tbh. Content and lyrical skill is still there tho. He needs to get back at producing his own shit again, Bass Brothers and Dr Dre included!! And tho he makes these awkward unasked for features work I’d prefer he get back to his hip hop roots and feature D12, 50 Cent, Dr Dre, Xzibit, Slaughterhouse, Yelawolf, etc..kinda keep it in house like he use to. If he made an album like he did with the bonus tracks ‘Don’t Front’ off MMLP2 or even ‘Ridaz’ off Recovery, I think we’d all be completely satisfied
