Joe Budden Drops Third Diss Track In Response To Drake’s “No Shopping” Verse

It took Drake 16 days to respond to Joe Budden’s first diss track, “Making A Murderer (Part 1).” During that silence, Budden also dropped “Wake” — a second song full of shots at the Toronto rapper.

Saturday’s episode of OVO Sound Radio premiered “No Shopping” from French Montana’s upcoming MC4 release, which featured a long-awaited verse from Drake addressing Budden.

It only took Joe Budden a matter of minutes to answer that call.

    First with a meme.

    Joe Budden Jordan Meme Owl

Then a few hours later, the now-regular thorn in Drake’s side released a third diss track aimed at the Grammy winner, titled “Afraid.” The hook for the track is sung by Drizzy himself, sampled from the song “The Resistance” that appears on his 2010 album Thank Me Later.

“You promised me you would never change,” Drake croons in the chorus.

Much of the lyrical content of “Afraid” hinges on the idea of Drake breaking that promise himself, with Budden addressing him by his first name at one point.

“Wish we could go back and grab the Blackberry with the scroll, oh / Yeah Aubrey that’s the one we trusted / Not this new Aubrey with his stomach sculpted / I’m disgusted, you’re such a fuckin’ incumbent / Can’t govern, trust in the public becoming a fucking puppet.”

The song art shows smoke billowing from the CN Tower, the same Toronto landmark that Drake is perched atop on the VIEWS cover.

Here are the full lyrics, via Genius.

    [Hook]
    What am I afraid of?
This is supposed to be what dreams are made of
But people I don’t have the time to hang with
Always look at me and say the same shit
They say you promised you would never change

    [Verse 1]
I just feel like you broke a promise to me
Only hurt cause I thought you were being honest with me
So I’m gon’ try and do this honorably
Without the sponsoring fee, what’s most alarming to me
This so emotional for you, robust such the calm in me
Easy to put off notes in thugs harmony
Speak to his insecurity, acting so irresponsibly
And it’s further impacted by the fact that you respond to me
See some of us know you as Jimmy barely old
He had the baby belly fro, nigga was frail up in his clothes
Barely got a hold and it’s seeming very outta control
Wish we could go back and grab the blackberry with the scroll, oh
Yeah Aubrey that’s the one we trusted
Not this new Aubrey with his stomach sculpted
    I’m disgusted, you’re such a fuckin’ incumbent
Can’t govern, trust in the public becoming a fucking puppet
It’s bigger than rap battles, a word for the digital cash castle Don’t let a glitch in the Mac crash you
    Unrelaxed wearing political straps tackled
Now clash paths with dad, the original bad apple
I know where you at, shit I was there too
When shit was happening fast, word, I got scared too
    Impossible feats, impossible to sleep
Making promises impossible to keep like
    [Hook]
    What am I afraid of?
This is supposed to be what dreams are made of
But people I don’t have the time to hang with
Always look at me and say the same shit
They say you promised you’d do it another time

    [Verse 2]
Listen, alert the niggas that handle you
You fill up tour seats but you raw meat to the animals
Doggy to cannibal, morning coffee and sandal shoes
Can’t get this energy off me, it isn’t tangible
This shit is greater than me, Pitchfork and Fader agree
Complex I’m waiting to see, this between us, A and B
You on the cusp Rated G, film I ain’t paying to see
    I’m patiently waiting with please
Thought you would take it in, breathe
Blantently seein’ his whole channel real A&E
Hard to sound empty inside and fill a vacancy
Get some advice, come over kick it and vibe
I’m here with hotels, strippers, Odell, all that shit that you like
We’ll light some candles and some hookah
    Hookers flickin’ the lights
We’ll play Aaliyah’s greatest hits, you’ll get all tickled inside
My nigga, It’s no wonder you’re losing all your friends
Poster child now for all that you had a wall against
And tell your mans I’ll be seeing him soon
He marched you right into this madness I got reason to assume
I creep in his room, sweeper consumed
Now his region of doom ain’t the legion of boom it’s just me with a broom
Afterward I’m thinking we can resume a lesson in speaking too soon
How is it too late if I’m reading ya tomb
It’s not, boys inordinate, ploys and ornaments
Show up at party next door with a noise ordinance
So off the hook of me, maybe y’all should be shook of me
Should know I’d kill him at even the slightest push of me
And when his team press up shirts, I’ll help ’em push a tee, Should it read, he pressed buttons but wouldn’t push a tee
Gotta be buggin’, maybe he dunno where Pusha be
Or when Pusha push the agenda he isn’t pushed to see
If pushed to the streets, I see wood in your physique
Thinking you misunderstood my hood, this isn’t Meek nigga
This ain’t a standard that you couldn’t meet
Just from your views, you prolly couldn’t see
That’s cool, that kind of success you could never plan for it
Heard the question nigga, I’ma help you answer it

    [Hook]
    What am I afraid of?
This is supposed to be what dreams are made of
But people I don’t have the time to hang with
Always look at me and say the same shit
They say you promised you would never change

    [Outro]
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I afraid of?
    What am I?

    1. At a certain point this just becomes one person nagging someone else over something real small and not worth the amount of attention Budden is putting in.

      1. You must be a Drake fan. In hip-hop it doesn’t matter. 50 beefed with Kiss & Fat Joe just for featuring in a Ja Rule song. LL & Canibus beef started over Canibus’ admiration for LL’s mic tattoo. And lastly, if you let someone keep punching you in the mouth because they have no reason to then that means you are weak as f*ck.

    2. Weak… No need for Drake to respond to this weak ish. Super disappointing, I’m a JB fan and he should’ve done way better. He looks super thirsty giving Drake this much attention. Quality > Quantity

      1. This is hiphop… Drake not responding is weak. Let me ask you something, when Drake went at Meek over and over again. That wasn’t being thirsty? You can’t pick and chose overtime Drake loses.

      2. Jay z said a broken clock is right two times a day.. Joe Budden rap career might be broken buts it’s right today..Jah bless errbody dat love real Hip hop.

    3. fake drake can’t compete with budden lyrically. fake drake’s verse on no shopping was total preschool level rhyme schemes. fake drake couldn’t buy all the ghostwriters in the world to compete with budden lyrically, fake drake’s entire hip hop persona is bitch made baby lotion soft bullshit. #DRAKEISFAKEDRAKEISWACK #THE 6FRAUD WITH VIEWS FROM A BITCH

    4. Correction. It didn’t take Drake 16 days to respond. It was already recorded. Budden just dished out the disses due to French letting the world know it existed. Please stop making it seem like Aubrey is on a warpath when in reality he’s acting like a deer stuck in headlights. R.I.P hip pop and team developed corporate run rappers.

      1. Thats true, Im guessing it was up to French or Diddy to say when the track was going to come out officially, it could have been released before any of Budden’s disses but that was up to Bad Boy or Epic Records.

    5. Joe dropping bars. If this is Joe Budden ft. Drake, technically did Drake diss himself

    6. Not only is afraid HOT… But Drake singing the Hook… is Genius because Joe saying I’m a lyricist I don’t sing but I’ll let Fake Drake do the singing for me. OMG. Drake is getting spanked. Joe is spanking Drake like he is his child. LOL

    7. Budden on some slick shit. Dropping his disses first was actually a smart move. To the casual hip hop fan this will look like Drakes response giving Budden a clear W in the diss dept. By the time folk figure out it was the initial shot all that will do is justify Budden firing on Drake. In a way it could force Drake to drop an official 2nd diss track at which point its a true battle with Budden the most likely victor barwise at least.

    8. hehehe. Go Joe Budden #CanadianLivesMatter Kill this singin bitch. We not afraid of wack Views. Lets give him real hiphop. Come back and sing Drake, this aint no Meek bitch. We outchea!!!!!!!!Ltes Go Joe. Hit him with a 4th diss

      1. Right. The entire internet and industry is laughing at Drake. Even more so after that child’s verse on a weak French Montana song. He better pay Miller quick.

    9. Obviously Budden is a better MC than Drake. Quite obvious that JB had bars and the only time Drake has em is if he got somebody writing them. That being said… Joey Budden has to be one of the easiest rappers to diss on planet earth. There is just so much f’in material about this dude that is easy. I could write a decent diss about JB easy. I mean the guy has had one hit, is the worst MC in his own crew, has video of him choking and beating his broad, apparently Drizzy has been all up in his girls guts, he’s on VH1 whatever the f that is, etc, etc, etc. Cmon Aubrey

    10. His ability to rhyme is on display, but Joey has yet to release a diss..nothing in this song STINGS. None of the lines are sticking, worth repeating they all have been diary entries. I wouldn’t ride around to this shit, nor would I share it. Go for the jugular damn!

    11. We’ll play Aaliyah’s greatest hits, you’ll get all tickled inside-Hahahahahahahahaha

    12. Yeah cause Drakes one verse is better then three whole diss tracks lol dude couldnt even write a whole song then drops a verse about Joe on a French Montana album? Dude can you get any worse? Damn Drake I hate your music but at least try doggie you look pathetic azz fuck right now with all your play money and your soft ass battle raps dude proves everyday he aint built for this shit. Thanks Joey for exposing this fraud to the world.
      MOOD MUZICK BITCH!

    13. I am making $89/hour working from home. I never thought that it was legitimate but my best friend is earning $10 thousand a month by working online, that was really surprising for me, she recommended me to try it. just try it out on the following website.

    14. Let’s stop with the “Why Joe beefing?” to distract from the fact that Drake is getting slaughtered. If you let someone keep punching you in the mouth because they have no reason to then that means you are weak as f*ck. Joe has his reason that’s all that matters. Hip hop needed this(as long as it stays lyrical). Drake manning up and aggressively responding would make it even better. Or is he “Afraid” lol

      1. That would be truth if he could get any of his disses to stick. Joe needs something that the people at large can grab onto and repeat ad nauseam to kill Drake’s career or stick to him the rest of his career. No TKO in any of these disses yet.

        1. The most Joe could do is blemish his career. Pop star’s have to kill themselves on some Milli Vanilli, Britney Spears type sh*t.

    15. Joe murking drizzy, Drake is trying to use his popularity as a shield, eventually that he lose that shield one day and he’s gonna have to
      fight back.

    16. Feels like joe is just playing around with him he’s not dropping anything too hard, even though he prob could.

    17. Drake is going to drop that new album with Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer, The 3 gods. Then I want to see someone try to step…

    18. It’s okay, buddens second diss track is better though. He needs something more radio/single friendly if he really wants to tear into Drake.

    19. I just wish Joe would go hard and keep this shit short. I am falling a sleep half way through these diss tracks.

        1. Gotta agree… I can’t remember any good diss track, from any era of hip hop, with this many bars in it.

        1. Any rapper at the top is pop stupid ass pac nas jay go take a music class I know you don’t want to believe it but it’s true pop is short for popular take that take that

            1. Maybe if you didn’t have balls on your face you could read pac is short for tupac nas is short for nasir and Jay is short for Jay-z

            2. Dumb ass pac is short for tupac nas is short for nasir and Jay is short for Jay-z

    20. R.I.P Ghostwriting - they should've never given it a pass with hip hop heads alive and breathing says:

Damn, Drizzy! Back at it in the studio assembling the Avengers of Ghostwriters after 3 full fledged disses.

    21. Eazy to put off notes thugs n harmony, only real hip hop fans got that one
Shout out to one of the greatest groups ever Bone Thugs N Harmony

    22. Joey is the better rapper, that was obvious before. BUT dude is just too irrelevant right now to provoke a real reaction from drake…make it seem like desperation move from Budden :/ and thats coming from a long time fan of him…

    23. Lets see how much y’all care about Joe Budden when he releases more music that isn’t Drake related.

      1. Joe could drop a whack single tonight and I would call it whack. Then I’d probably say something like “…..but that n*gga murdered Drake ass.” Then I would probably listen to some Drake while I’m getting some pu**y. Yall new n*ggaz too emotional. Lmao

    24. Blah blah blah Budden goin so hard that 4pm in Calabasas really gave him nightmares and 6 God hasn’t even full responded yet but he will eventually and it will be game over period.

      1. I’m not so sure my dude. If you think about it Drake didn’t even murder Meek. He won because of hype and the fact that Meek was weak with his responses. Joe? Not so weak. Don’t let the Common beef hype you up either. Nobody won that one. They just left it be. Joe? Not so much. I like Drake but he ain’t built like that. Joe? Very much so. Low album sells and all.

    25. To be fair these are some nice rhymes but not a knockout. I am thinking Joe is doing way too much. Sometimes less is more.

    26. I like how drake fans r like when drake finally responds it’s over for Joe, well thats like saying when your team is
getting they ass kick you say well when we finally win one you’ll see, hmm well until you actually win one let’s
talk about the ass kicking your taking. I don’t wanna hear he doesn’t have to respond no one man is bigger than the game
go ask 50 cent, ja rule, nelly, wayne

    27. Did Joe just talk about drakes abs, smoking with Drake while listening to Aliyah? Uhhhh…. Is this some kind of lover’s quarrel?

        1. Sound like you speak from experience? I always thought the bottom would be the sentimental one, like how Joe Budden is in his diss tracks.

    28. wanna diss a man with nothing to lose…burn to death or jump…better make a decision and choose. #DRAKEISFAKEDRAKEISWACK #THE 6FRAUD WITH VIEWS FROM A BITCH

    29. this is the best one by far

    30. Joe budden is a bitter old irrelevant hasbin. Get it through your heads hipsters that Joe Budden dissing drake is the equivalent of one of you no life losers making a diss track about drake. It doesnt matter and its not even worth a listen by drake. Drake is the god of this rap game and he will continue to run it for another decade just to piss you hipsters off and make all your favourite rappers irrelevent. Your favourite rappers should start shining drakes shoes and begging drake for a feature because thay are all nobodies compared to drake in 2016.

    31. JOE BUDDEN IS VERY DESPERATE SO CALL RAPPER I GUESS THEM REALITY CHECKS IS DRYING UP.HE BETTER CALL MONA SCOTT,THIS IS THE ONLY TIME HE GOING TO BE T.V.,EVEN EMEINEM HAD TO GET AWAY FROM THIS CLOWN.DRAKE KILLED THIS ON CLOWN ON FRENCH SONG,NOW HE CAN R.I.P

    32. Naaww you drake fans aint coming on here with that trolling to many real hip hop heads on here.
Drake getting buried right now, drake catching flames and Budden aint even going hard. The real reason why drake wont
respond is he scared to embarrass himself. Dude is scared it’s just that simple

      1. Id just like to point out that Budden has replied 3 times, meanwhile drake is dropping bombs and hitting number one what feels like every month. I love both rappers but drake released No Shopping with Montana and it was a song, not a diss track. You know you broke and dried up when you dropping 3 diss tracks at the real GOAT. Drake smashed records in 2016, #1 100 billboard, #1 200 Billboard. “Drake’s Views Beats Eminem’s Billboard Record for Rap Album With Most Weeks at No. 1” We need to face the facts. Whatever the boy is doing is working. One dance is the most streamed song EVER on Spotify and that is a TERRIBLE song in my opinion. y’all talking about how drake fans are alone here.

Lets see (Spotify Monthy Listeners 09/01/2017)

        Joe Budden: 378,615

        Drake: 38,097,488

Joe has 0.01% of listeners compared to the 6 god.

    33. I keep hearing drake fans saying Joe broke, joe checks drying, joe a loser, joe washed up, joe this joe that
Yall talking about everything but bars and lyrics. So what yall drake fans is saying is that drake is getting
murked by a broke washed up rapper damn that makes it even worse lol.

    34. @Unbiased Truth,
Only dude in here talking that real shit. I heard the first one from Budden which he ran over Drake on and missed the rest of this because I have a life and real shit is going on in the world. Dudes be cheerleading for rappers and take their Ls personally like they’re family members or some shit, lmao.

      1. So why you come here??? You came on this site like you’re more important then everybody that’s making comments. People come on
here because they are Joe budden fans or drake fans or just like hiphop. You act like real shit just started happening in the world
over a couple of shootings, this shit been happening forever. Don’t come on this site knocking people that have a passion for hip hop.

    35. No, point is dickhead that this so called “beef” is 3 songs in over 1 line and isn’t going to change anything because these are rappers occupying 2 different planes right now. It was enough after the first one, especially in light of what supposedly set this off to begin with.

      1. For someone with the name “Silent” you sure do be flappin your busted hot dog lips alot playa
