Jay Z Backdrop Gives Nod To His Drug-Dealing Past, DJ Clark Kent Says

Jay Z performed back-to-back TIDAL X shows this weekend (May 16, 17) with the same backdrop – an Interstate 95 South sign.

DJ Clark Kent took to Instagram to explain that 95 was the interstate that Jay Z would use to transport drugs during his dealing days.

Before I could search, find, and convince Jay to get to the music, this was the way, the road, the route to the paper,” DJ Clark Kent wrote in an Instagram post Sunday (May 17), in regard to the I-95 backdrop.

DJ Clark Kent also says that one of Jay Z’s early songs was called “95 South.”

Jay Z claimed that he sold drugs before his rap career took off during an interview with Vanity Fair.

In 1996, he mentioned the road on “Feelin’ It,” a cut from his debut album, Reasonable Doubt.

“Ya feelin’ it?” he rhymes on the track. “To all the girls that bought a girdle to conceal my bricks / No doubt, they can vouch, my life is real as shit / 95 South and papi on The Hill and shit / And all the towns like Cambridge that I killed with shit.”

During his TIDAL performances, Jay Z also dissed Spotify and YouTube in a “B-Sides” freestyle and payed tribute to recently fallen New York rapper Chinx.
